...Cathedral...hmmm...I don't remember that part, but then again I know the paths are really different.

I think it's the last dungeon, and I also think it's in all paths. They aren't all that different, since you go to all the same cities and dungeons, but the bosses you choose to beat is what mostly differs. In neutral path I end up usualy fighting both the law and chaos bosses.

Yeah you're past me, the neutral path seems pretty tough! I'll have to try that my next playthrough.

BTW my lil bro was watching me play and he asked me why do I only have girls in my team. I didn't really get what he was saying (I was like, they're demons not humans...besides the angle that's like a heavenly being.), but then I figured he was wondering why I only had female demons.

I told him, "Well...they look good so I ask them to join me!"

"Aren't you a pimp then?"

 gotta love a ten year old's thought process.

As far as "hardcore" games go, Wii just didn't have much going for it in '08. That's where the hate comes from.

I'd buy Arc Rise Fantasia day one, but I don't own a next-gen console, since I use my brother's.

Doing well on my neutral path game of SMT1. I think I'm going to enter the cathedral sometime soon.

Otherwise I'm loving Retro Game Challenge. Just got to the third challenge of Star Prince.

More Super Mario Galaxy with a little bit of Grand Theft Auto IV.

Lulz.

I'm thinking a Wii is the next thing on my shopping list. Maybe a Playstation 3 later down the road, since there are almost twice as many games I want for Wii than for Playstation 3.

Yeah, SMT2 looks even more awesome. Though I think I need a little break, the cathedral is kinda confusing and is starting to piss me off. I'm on my way to the bottom floor, then all the way up to the top floor I guess. At this point I just want to get it over with.

Going through Fallout 3 on my PC a second time for more achievements and to do more exploring than I did last time. Thankfully, this time around I'm not stuck with the glitch that crashed the game every time I attempted to fast-travel and forced me to walk EVERYWHERE.

As for bedtime DS gaming, I'm about 8 chapters into Luminous Arc 2 right now (I preordered it for the spoils but wouldn't let myself play it until after I'd finished Rondo of Swords). I have to say I'm enjoying it a lot more than the first one--this time around you've a few more options for levelling up your characters outside of the story battles, and it doesn't have as much of a "strategy RPG lite" feel as Luminous Arc did.

And when I'm not in bed or don't feel like sitting in front of the PC, I bust out Dodonpachi Daioujou on the PS2 to try and get past the first level without dying. :p

I had some Rez music stuck in my head so, since I've been sick at home and my daughter has this week off from school, we spent the afternoon playing it. I had forgotten that I had unlocked Beyond Mode the last time I played, so I did a quick Direct Assault run-through and plowed through Lost Area as well. I might play it for another day or two to unlock a few more things, if only to get the music firmly out of my head. I've seriously been headnodding off and on to random tunes from it and I stopped playing hours ago.

Nocturne, Fear 2, My world my way and hopefully Prinny soon. I like My world my way but it does get a bit repetitive if not done in short bursts.

Tried the Halo wars demo, it seems okay for what it is and I dig the cg cinemas, but from what I read there is no Covenant campaign; which makes me sad due to actually liking their side way more in the demo, and seeing that it doesn't seem worth 60 a year for the possibility of playing online once in a while, it has no multiplayer for me either, so most likely pass unless the campaign is really long and mindblowing. The LE also sucks.

Odds are itll go down in price at some point, too!

Ah, MS Saga, passed on it back in the day because I heard it wasn't that great, but it actually is quite the charming little game, lots of MS and customizability, the plot isn't that bad so far and it's actually hard. So I rather like it.

Yeah, I actually ended up enjoying MS Saga way more than I thought I would. The difficulty remains pretty high throughout the game, and as you already mentioned the FM mix and match parts/ weapons style customization was very cool.

As far as the story goes. I will just say that I laughed a lot even though I don't think the story supposed to be funny.

What BP rating are the Akuma players? Usually anybody under 1000 is terrible anyways.

I usually only play on player matches, so no BP. Most of them can't even seem to do his specials properly, so I think it's more of a noob-y thing going on for now. Perhaps after a while I'll be able to fight some people that can absolutely cream me. So far one of the best people I've fought has been Hamel.

Currently, I'm just playing Street Fighter IV with close friends.

Also been dabbling with Noby Noby Boy. Reminds me of when I used to play with either Lincoln Logs or Lego thanks to the look and feel of the game. I love that GIRL finally got to the MOON! Next stop... Mars?

I'm trying to play through Persona 3 and, coming from Persona 4, it's a little bit frustrating considering how much of a change it is.

Started with Digital Devil Saga 1 as well and I got to the first save point.

I want to start Nocturne since it seems to be the most interesting of the lot at the moment.

Oh, I guess Star Ocean came out today so I might be getting that.

It's not a stealth game the same way Metal Gear Solid is.

The way it works is that there are several big cities connected by paths and the main assassinations happen in those big cities. You go to the local chapter of your assassin guild, receive a target, get clues about the target, go back to the local chapter of your guild to get approval to kill target, then kill target

It's fun trying to figure out how to get to your target, but it might get repetitive after a while as there are some kills that you can't do without triggering some sort of event that may or may not give away who you are.

It is a stealth game - I know I set up on kill flawlessly and seen videos online of people doing some crazy stealthy #### for alot of the assassinations - but if you play it with an absolute laser focus on stealth, it's hard as hell. Where MGS is more about analysing the entire situation and then acting, I found that AC was more about seizing the exact moment there's an opening - because there is usually only one moment. In this vein, it's alot harder, because unless you play MGS on Extreme, once you're seen, you're screwed.

On the flip side, AC becomes a much different beast than MGS once combat becomes involved. Altair is a much more competent fighter than Snake and can kill waves and waves of enemies endlessly once you learn Counter. So the punishment for being found is alot less severe than in MGS.

Been playing Crisis Core. Did some missions last night cause it was getting late.

I haven't touched Star Ocean after getting my own ship, and even then I forgot to save so there goes that! I went back and continued my dormant Persona 3 file and finally reached floor 5 of Tartarus. Going from Persona 4 back to Persona 3 FES isn't something that I'd recommend since there were choices that the devs made in P4 that streamlined the thing, but I'm beginning to warm up to their choices and beginning to appreciate it more.

My significant other and I are playing through Professor Layton again before going to bed after not touching the game for a year. When the DS is free, I take over and get some time in with The World Ends With You and Dragon Quest V.

I posted this in another forum I frequent, but I figured I might as well post it here, too.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's finally over. I beat Persona 2!

It's been almost exhausting to play that game. I found it at its most enjoyable not when I sunk one or two hours at a time, but six or eight. It requires alot to make any decent progress, which is why I beat it releatively fast (P3 took me nearly a year with 110 hours; P2 took two months at 80 hours).

For wanting to play that game for years, even before I heard of or got P3, it definitely meets expectations. The combat is simple in its delivery - no time bars, just your agility stats determine order - but nuanced in the details with fusion spells, weaknesses, the way equipped persona affects you, mutations, and the contact system, which adds a whole other layer to dig under. Compared to P3, P2 loses that kinetic feel of the Press Turn (hit weaknesses, get an extra turn) system, but it surpasses it in sheer variety. And it is difficult. Easier than I expected (the way some people talked about the game, I expected cardiac arrests every battle), much harder than P3: FES, it's more just getting used to the fact that "yes, normal enemies can knock off a good 1/3 of your life in one hit". I never felt it was unfair (well....end boss >_>), but defeating enemies felt so gratifying.

The story is something else. Atlus didn't officially localize the previous game, Persona 2: innocent Sin, so you initially feel like you're being thrown into a lake without knowing how to swim, but it adds to the characterization. I was afraid that without the S. Link system P2 would become more interactive movie than RPG, but because of the situation and what happened in P2: IS, it makes sense, and works beautifully. The characters play off each other with such ease, they feel astonishingly close to real people with real problems.

If there is one area where I have to knock the game, it's in presentation. It looks pretty bad, and the voices (when there is voice acting) has this odd reverb effect, like Atlus was experimenting with Auto-Tune way before Kanye West decided to. While you do get used to it, the initial shock is pretty jarring. Then again, practically everything from the PS1 era looks and sounds bad; even the inital bleat that accompanies the SCE logo sounds like synthesiser flatulence. But for a game that came out near the tail-end of the PS1 era - the same year Chrono Cross came- it's bad. Considering how super slick the modern SMT games are, it made me yearn for P4 even more.

That being said, if one can forgive the presentation and is willing to tough it out, P2 is a rewarding experience that any Persona fan should experience. Stunningly mature, this SMT is a throwback only is graphics - the gameplay and story is as fresh and polished as P3.

Hello, I'm new in this bitch:devil:

I'm thinking about buying Dragon Quest V. Is it better than VIII? VIII was really good, but if it's even better it's a safe buy.

Although I never completed Dragon Quest VIII (I'm practically at the end), if you're any fan of the series' interface, soundtrack, battle system, and above-average storyline, it's very safe to say that you will enjoy Dragon Quest V. Especially if you liked any of the games before this one, DS or not, to me the game feels very fresh because it hasn't been released here until now. Considering that I don't recall playing an RPG that begins as a young child and plays well through his adulthood (so I heard, I'm only 11 hours in), it feels different enough from any RPG as well as the whole series' that is really appealing. Also, if you enjoy the regional accents of the characters, such as the ones in DQVIII (without voice-acting), the dialogue is extremely charming. Personally, a very good soundtrack is enough for me to tolerate almost any RPG (I like Unlimited SaGa in small doses), and DQVs is 'good' so far.

Thanks for the impressions of the completed game. I started Innocent Sin, and almost 11 hours in I suddenly stopped, lost a little interest (partially because of other games like DQIV, V, and Devil Survivor), and I will be determined to finish this game so I can play Eternal Punishment immediately after!

Even if the battle theme was ripped straight out of Baten Kaitos Origins.

You do know that Motoi Sakuraba did the music for that too, right?

Um, no kidding. That doesn't mean he should be excused for for doing it. It's sounds even more "samey" than all of the other garbage he writes.

Well, I'm not sure what song from BKO precisely you're talking about but... if you're talking about the battle theme, then I have to say you're either crazy or you're not very good at picking certain melodies apart. D:

Maybe it was the first one then....Those games are pretty jumbled together for me. I'm good enough at picking apart melodies to know that Tales of Destiny and Tales of Eternia (Inferia) have the same battle theme, Star Ocean 2 and 3 have the same battle theme, the town theme and airship flight theme in FF4 are the same song.

So yeah, the battle theme is recycled from one of his earlier efforts....

I hate ds standbymode, I have used it like 3 times, and it always dies on me before I get to charge it! I wish the DS had a battery left indicator with more detail than "you are fine" and "you are ####ed"

It's not like the proof is in the notes or anything. Or like I wanted to be a music composer for several years.

God of War II. I felt I should take a small break from RPGs, having played them near constantly for a year (going from P3, to a small break with SoTC, to FES and then P2: EP). On a technical level, it's brilliant; it looks good, controls good and sounds good, but it lacks soul. SoTC has so much soul it could make violent fathers into nuns, where as GoWII kind of just exists, like the quiet kid in the back of the class who looks like he would enjoy eating human flesh but just really likes to sit at home watching CSI. Under that "appaling" personality is just an unremarkable person. I get that alot from GoWII, with the #### puzzles in which you don't even know they are puzzles, and #### bosses in which you only know "hey, this is supposed to be cathartic" because the camera zooms in the boss and shows him doing some really nasty/weird/violent action.

The strange thing is, I'm enjoying it; not so much as a game - like GoW - but more as a guilty pleasure, like Auto Modellista was until it managed to break itself half way though. It's like, you know it's messed up, and you should really be something else instead, but it's more of a "well I'm already doing this..."

At lunch, I tried out a couple of iPhone games, namely Word Fu and Zen Bound.

Word Fu is a variation on Boggle where you get like 8 or 9 randomized tiles and your objective is to make as many words as possible within a small amount of time. The game's pretty tough, but it's pretty fun if you only have a couple of minutes to spend playing a game (or waiting in line at the DMV).

Zen Bound is not a fetish game. It's basically a puzzle game where the objective is to paint the sculpture onscreen by rotating the object and wrapping a rope (which paints the sculpture) around it. It's pretty addicting and the graphics are not bad for an iPhone game.

We've been playing Sonic and the Black Knight and Eat Lead: Return of Matt Hazard.

Sonic: Why the hell would you put a credit roll in the game 75% of the way through the story mode? By the time I got to play as the better characters in the storyline, I didn't care anymore since they already credit-rolled me.

The gameplay is mediocre at best and very unresponsive during the 2-D segments. I actually liked most of the music, especially since it wasn't playing the theme song every time you weren't in a level (#### you, secret rings). I actually liked Secret Rings better than Black Knight, but I still wouldn't suggest buying Black Knight. The credit-roll happened after about 2 hours of playing the game, so I'm glad I only paid 3.50 to rent the game (half off at Family Video).

Eat Lead: The game is mediocre in most aspects, but I do enjoy the game's sense of humor. Playing as a failed action game hero and killing people with deadly water pistols amuses me (that must be some hard water, hur hur hur). I haven't gotten too far in the game so far, only about a hour, but this one is actually worth the 3.50 rental so far.

Getting near the end of DQV, but completely wasting my time trying to get rare monsters to join me. This game is FUN. I liked the DQIV remake, but this one got me seriously addicted. I've been playing almost nothing else since I started it.

I also started a new game of DQIII Snes, DW7 and DQ8, since I can't decide which one I want to play. Currently I'm leaning more towards DW7, since I put over 130 hours in it back in the days, got right before the boss, but never actualy completed it, mostly because I was too busy trying to complete my monster park. Yeah, I'm on a DQ buzz.

I beat the main game in SO4. I am planning on tackling the bonus dungeons, but I need to take a little break before I start.

Overall I really enjoyed SO4 although story could have been way better. Eh, I thought the combat was more than enough fun to make up for any deficiencies in the story though.

I started up Dragon Quest IV DS last night. I was instantly reminded of why I loved this game so much on the NES. But man, I am seriously hating the route they decided to take with the localization. It is so annoying having to translate what the people are saying into modern english every time I talk to a npc. Well hopefully Burland is a worst case scenario and the other locals aren't that bad.

P3 - At Tartarus block 4. Just beat the tank level guardians with only Minato and Koromaru. Mainly using Samael loaded with attack skills, mudoon, three elemental spells, megido, void death. I like Samael. And also a Dominion with diarama, mediarama, recarm, hamaon.

And ICO - what a strangely awesome game...

I think you're further than me Ike, I'm on the Heracles. And it looks like theres maybe 2 or 3 more chapters to go. Not to mention tons of side quests.
