I saw a thread in General so decided to make a suggestion, and a rather good one. Lunar has always been a classic RPG series to me. If Vic doesn't pick this up, I suggest you do Atlus. It is a no brainer.

Is this a port or remake... or does every Lunar game look just like the other.

My kneejerk reaction was that this was a port of Silver Star Story Complete, which = no thanks.
Then I saw this was another remake, which = do want.

Kinda torn. Time is ripe for a great new Lunar game on the PSP. I've played the first to death.
But yeah I bet a lot of people agree this is a classic through and through. If that's what XSEED had in mind, wow. Well played.

Victor Ireland from Gajinworks is already looking into this, Gajinworks was formed after the dissolution of Working Designs, so the Japanese developer is already familiar with them as a company. So don't count on XSEED or Atlus picking this one up.

Pretty sure Vic will only get the chance if no one else picks it up. The timing is just too perfect for XSEED. That interview, and then a few days later this. Who knows with nothing official yet.

Kinda flawed logic there. The developers may know Vic, but that's means nothing in terms of who gets what. Especially since you need to consider that Gaijin Works hasn't done anything stand alone yet, just the localization for Hudson on Miami Law.

Day one if anyone can do better than the super limited edition of the PSOne's SSSC package. And promise us a Ghaleon puppet plush for Lunar: EB's inevitable followup!
If it is only the game without any sort of tangible swag I might just pass until it drops in price to $20.

This feels wrong but I gotta say it. Please dont release this.
Yes, I once loved the lunar games but after the past number of releases, my stomach cant handle another steaming pile. Atlus is a great company but after the way the entire franchise has been handled over the years I fail to see how this game could be a profitable venture for the Atlus we know and love.
I realy, realy hated saying that. I think some of you can understand how hard it was to admit it.

I can't see how this won't be profitable. Lunar has a huge fan following here, and I think even the horrendous DS game sold relatively well. (I'm ashamed to say I bought it day one even when Vyers urged me not to).

Yes, its technically a remake. Siliconera.com said that they are adding new story to it which already made me want this. It also seems they'll be using the PSX cutscenes. I'd prefer Vic or Atlus ventured into this. If Atlus did a small run, then I know this would be profitable.
Here's hoping for a good translation by SOMEONE, and not the crap the past port and prequel were. God. -.-;

Here's a contradiction if I've ever seen one. Unless, somehow, you consider Lunar Legend a port?!? I agree that it's basically the same storyline, but it's wayyy too different to be shoved into the "crap port' category. Dragon Song on the other hand... I tried so much to love it. My body just rejected that damn game.
Anyway, the official Harmony of Silver Star (http://www.gunghoworks.jp/game/lunar/) website is open (nothing interesting yet). I'm pretty confident Ubisoft will be making a bid for this, alongside GaijinWorks (worst company name every).

No one told me this untill after I bought it and tried playing it. I still have it but only so I can show others what a bad game is realy like. Maybe I'm wrong but I still think ubisoft unleashed horrors enough to keep most gamers away from it.

I'm scared of the DS one, but this looks like a true remake. I am all for this game! I just wish GA would make a third one. Sure the silver star is a classic, but it is very old school! Even Silver Star story complete for PS1 was old school! It was too short too. I dream of "Lunar 3: 100,000 Gallons of Purple"! It would come with a big screen TV box full of hand puppets, soundtracks, artbooks, random toys, and a chrome-plated instruction manual the size of a coffie table!
XSEED just announced Ragnarok Online DS. It's another GungHo game, so since they're doing GungHo games now, it's looking more and more likely that Lunar is their mystery RPG.

LMAO at this question in the Q&A section:
How does XSEED plan on handling the game's quirky humor and sexual innuendos? That was one area that really stood out for me in the prior releases.
Thank god the XSEED rep gave a pretty good answer regarding balancing things out and trying to stay a little bit more true to the original Japanese text. I'm excited for this.

I did consider Lunar Legend more of a port... Even if it had a totally different localization and the new item lists ect. It still was the same plot. I love Lunar, but the first game gets stale after playing it so much. This sounds so bad because Im currently running through the Sega CD version, its the only one I never got all the way through because I kept having something wrong with the system. Now I'm emulating through an official disc. =p
I really, really loved Lunar 2. I wish it would get a remake/port rather than 1, or I wish we would see a third game encompassing one of the following:
1) The one the fans want mostly: a real prequel, about the 4 heroes.
2) A third game, where the player has a blue dragon and we rehash through the same dragon dungeons because dangit, thats Lunar. ;)

I'm Gonna Try to Pre-order this Next week (I hope I dont have to try Next month GRRRR)
I have Silver Star Story Complete in my garage. I think I was fifteen when it came out and working at my local Software Etc. It has that hardcover game manual and super fancy cloth map.
I pre-ordered the Lunar 2 remake too and got that bitchin' Ghaleon punching hand puppet. I canceled the pre-order cause I didn't have the cash to get the game, but I got to keep the toy. Such a funny little thing. Will have to dig that one out of the attic next time I'm at my parents' place.
If this is the same as Complete, I doubt I'll get it. Such a charming game, though.
Soushi_Grapple
08-21-2009, 10:40 AM
It's not exactly the same as Complete, but I think its drawing most from it. The only changes I've noticed were the graphics... I could've sworn they were adding to the plot. Rumor was originally it was gonna stick to the Sega CD version and although there are some fun things in it that werent in Complete; Complete had a better story overall.

Looks like there is going to be a LE (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031Q7N1E?ie=UTF8&tag=1upcom0f-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0031Q7N1E) that comes with the soundtrack and some cards for $10 more... should have been preorder bonuses. If they are going to charge more for a LE then I would have expected it to look more like the PS version with a full hard cover book and all that other cool stuff.

I dunno about that. I haven't pulled out the original to make sure, but I think there are a couple of NPCs in the demo that speak with the WD translation. I mean, sure, there are only a few ways to sensibly translate certain short sentences, but still.
Speaking of the demo, the redone graphics and music are lovely. And the voice acting is comparably good, although Nall in particular will take some getting used to. But they ruined the opening song. The redone and, I believe, more literal lyrics don't match the music as well. Also, the demo is easy as crap. Like, not even trying easy. Most of the enemies in the first dungeon are one-hit kills.
I'll probably be getting the LE even if it doesn't have enough bonuses. I like the redone music enough from the demo to want the soundtrack.
