View Full Version : Possible sequel
Bandai Namco has registered the title Ultimate Frontier in Japan. I wonder if they're planning to make a sequel.

Please either link or cite a Japanese source like Famitsu.
Also, since Atlus USA brought over the SRW OG's, and not Namco Bandai, to America, then, I can see the prior, continuing on with localizing the series.
*cringes at the possibility of Namco Bandai, localizing Ultimate Frontier to the U.S., a la Tales of Phantasia GBA*

Hmm, possible, or it could also just be like an Endless Frontier 1.5, same game, but for one of the consoles. Interesting choice of titles however as it contradicts the name Endless Frontier. One of the definitions of ultimate means the end, or last in a series, like saying the end of the endless frontier.

It's also possible it's not related at all. The original poster only said they registered the title Ultimate Frontier, not Super Robot Wars: OG Saga: Ultimate Frontier.

I even tried to get the number of Namco Bandai Games America, and my only lead is NBGA's Customer Service/Tech support hotline: 1-408-235-2222
Anyway, if Namco Bandai is sincere to officially bring the Super Robot Wars Original Generation franchise here (while being a cheapass about the licensing issue)...
1. Namco Bandai ought to offer to co-publish future installments of the series with Atlus USA. That way, Namco Bandai has a direct say about its American involvement, and not seeing Atlus USA having to go back & forth with the translation issue. Heck, it's cheaper that way, and this is one anime-rooted franchise it can potentially offer as an alternative to Naruto and Dragon Ball (seeing how the American publishing rights for DB just came back to them recently).
2. Fans should buy the games, obviously, while spreading the word about this niche-in-America series. Endless Frontier, technically speaking, was the first Namco Bandai-owned game I pre-ordered at this point of my life, even though Atlus USA brought it for us.
3. Namco Bandai should emulate Nintendo's Elite Beat Agents on how to introduce a franchise in America: by making a brand-new series specifically for this market. Elite Beat Agents was produced, when Nintendo realized how popular Ouendan was, even outside Japan, of all places. So, Namco Bandai, why not go for "Super Robot Wars: Original Generation VS Sunrise"? Last I checked, Namco Bandai already has a head start in the Americas, seeing how Bandai Entertainment's American offices own the region's licenses for any given Gundam series, Big O, Code Geass, Vision of Escaflowne, and Eureka Seven, to name a few; that head start needs to be taken advantage of.
This is just what I can think of right now.

Well, it is true that Bandai Entertainment has first go with Sunrise shows due to them having the same owner... But not every Sunrise show goes to Bandai. For example, GaoGaiGar is licensed by Media Blasters.
Of course, some companies are more likely to help out if needed than others...

Did Media Blasters get the GaoGaiGar license before Bandai Entertainment establish office here in North America? I'm suggesting for Namco Bandai to go for what they have right now; they can just get the license for others they don't own in America and have them as DLC, or buy the license upfront and save GaoGaiGar/other series in similar situation for a sequel.

No, Media Blasters licensed GaoGaiGar in about 2006, which is about 7 or so years AFTER Bandai Entertainment USA was established. Just because something belongs has the Bandai name in Japan doesn't mean that no other company can license it.

:agree:
That is true; there are many other companies that have license other than Bandai Entertainment. Aside for Gaogaigar,( witch I am still :( that because of low sales makes it close to impossible to get FINAL)Media Blasters also licensed Giant Robo, Tekkaman Blade and Voltron. Bandai Entertainment dose handle various mecha anime like big-o and Eureka Seven, but the majority of there licensing consist of the Gundam universe naturally. I have a theory that I posted in another thread and am going to post an improved one on the SRT:OG thread soon on how atlus can get other SRW games to the sates.
Now as for a sequel to this game, I wouldn’t mind seeing one on the PS2/3. But to tell you the truth, I actually want to see the cast of Endless frontier in the next game in the OG series. For those who played OG2 know that it's possible for charters other dimensions to appear in the game. And now we see that other time-lines and other worlds can show up in OG. (as it implies in the game) Some of the cast can even have theire own giant robots. The lovely oni princes Suzuka would of course be Jyaki-GUN-Oh, but will be around the same size as the Ryukoou/Koryuou (http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3838/koryuou.png) and that they would encounter one another. (the machine god of OG2 vs the machine god of OG:EF:D) ) Kaguya Nanbu will be in control of the Grungust Type-0 (http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/663/grungustreishiki.png). For those who are playing EF now will see that she and her "Zankantou" is well suited for one of Zangers robots. For the NXC duo Reiji Arisu and Xiaomu I was thinking about the Nacht and Abend but since we already have that in the form of the alt and the wess I have this idea. For Reiji, he'll take control of the Wildwuerger L (http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/6379/wuergerl.jpg) and for Xiaomu, she'll take control of the Wildfalken L (http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/6481/falkenl.jpg). Both are made to be partner machines, both are modified versions of Arado and Seolla's personal mechs and both are red. (though if they added some more black with the red then it would be perfect) The only one I am not sure of is Aschen Brodel robot. It is obvious she is the predecessor of Lamia Loveless (Aschen Brodel #W07, Lamia Loveless #W17) so I would think it would be the robots Lamia piloted. But since the shadow mirrors are no more in the OG story I would think they would use the robots in a game that has mecha similar to the ones the shadow mirrors used. Here are the SRW 64 robots that Aschen (and Cardia) could use. Ashcleef (http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/5266/ashcleef.png) and Earthgain (http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/6606/earthgain.png) I feel are most suited for Aschen and for Earthgain there is the bonus of it's two forms (standard and Vairose (http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/7719/vairose.png)) for code DTD. Super Earthgain (http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3245/searthgain.png)(the combined form of Earthgain and Vairose) is also a good pic for Aschen.
Now if the EF cast would be in it, there nemesis "the Orchestral Army" would have to be in it. Right now the only ones I can think of are for the newest memberd, Kyon and Henne. Kyon would pilot the Elbulls (http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/6261/elbulls.png) and Henne the Simurgh (http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/8523/simurgh.png). They would have a combined form that is called Simurgh Splendid (http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/9754/simurghs.png). Now I know that the SRW 64mechs already have pilots but that is what I think would work. Of course they could always make new mecha for the cast be they would have be ones that would fit the characters. Now you could tell that by now that there is one I have yet to include, but since this may be a spoiler for frontier so here goes. Now I haven’t beat the game, but I have hard rumors that Haken Browning has some connection to the shadow mirrors so he would have an upscale version of the robots in the game. I think the perfect mech for Haken would be the Phantom. If fact if only one EF character can guest star in OG3 then I would what it to be Haken and the Phantom or Suzuka and Jyaki-GUN-Oh.
Now I have a cool video of Haken Browning and Gespenst Type-Phantom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwOLpLXv5Rs). I hope you like it and I would like to see this or Suzuka with Jyaki-GUN-Oh chalanging Kusuha and her Ryukoou (http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/1866/ryukoou.png). off to bed.
Just out of curiosity, is whatever Saya mentions the last time she shows up something that already exists, or a potential plot point for something else?
And yeah, the name being registered combined with the "To Be Continued?" at the end likely means they're at least considering it at this point...

I think the significance of Bandai Namco registering this title in Japan is different than one would think.
Banpresto, the Japanese developer, is owned by Bandai Namco in Japan. They were bought out at some point in 2008. This was also an issue in relation to a game that was published by NIS America, which is Ar Tonelico 2. Well, not an actual issue, but a percieved issue as to why it took so long to get announced for NA.
So the true meaning of this topic is: A possible sequel is in the works because the parent company of the developer has registered a title that sounds like it may be related. That's all. I don't think Namco Bandai (The North American branch of Bandai Namco) will actually even consider releasing the Super Robot Taisen games in North America, anyway. Reason 1: They don't even release most of their own flagship games. Hell, those of us that are fans of the Tales series know this very well. (I gave up on ever seeing most of the titles that didn't make it yet, so I imported them...) Point is, Atlus is likely always going to be the ones to release Super Robot Taisen games in North America, unless Namco Bandai starts trying to cater to a niche audience... which is unlikely, since... well... Look up "Surge Games" and you'll get why I don't think that will happen.

Banpresto or whatever also did a survey asking fans what they would like to see in the sequel. It hinted pretty heavily at adding the Tales of universe into the mix, as many of the characters were from the Tales sereis.
I think it is safe to say this game is probably going to get a sequel sometime.

Tales... and Super Robot Taisen...? What? @_@
I mean, I love Tales, and I'll keep saying that until it's engraved into everyone's memory, but... I don't see how that could mix at all... there are no robots in Tales games! Unless you count the "Murder" series of enemies that appear in many Tales games. And of course there are a few giant robotic machines that are not exactly things you'd think would work, like Heracles...
If Tales ended up combining with a SRT game, the odds of it being able to release in North America drop drastically unless Nam Cobanda Isle releases it themselves... because it's their 'flagship' series, after all. Flagship in name only of course... But historically, they have not allowed anyone but themselves to touch the series in North America. Case in point? XSeed, one of the few other companies out there that pretty much just releases games because they're asked to by fans, actually attempted to get permission from Namco Bandai to release an english version of Tales of Rebirth. Since we don't yet have ToR, I think you can assume the answer they were given... So, in other words, I love the Tales series, but for the sake of seeing more of other series like Super Robot Taisen overseas... PLEASE no crossovers with Tales!

Normally, I'd totally not let someone off for saying such things of Tales. But you like Freakazoid. So you win. :P
Admittedly, I'd buy it to see how it works. Obviously, that'd be an import-only kind of deal. Namco Bandai wouldn't release it, and Atlus wouldn't be allowed if Namco Bandai continues to reinforce the "It's our flagship RPG series, we'll release them, or no one will!" attitude with Tales games, so if an SRT game had Tales in it, it'd probably fall under this rule.
But as far as this goes, I actually do wonder what characters were on this survey... Because I've been thinking about it, and I think that Guy and Jade from Abyss, Raine from Symphonia, and Rita from Vesperia would meet the "not completely out of place in the OG Saga universe" criteria... since they're familiar with technology in some way. Of course, if you want to go the other way... only Rutee, Sheena, and Judith meet the... "minimum size requirement" as far as I can think of off the top of my head. ^^;

It's not like it is a legit Tales game. Endless Frontier 2 just MIGHT have a few characters from the Tales of series. I seriously doubt Namco Bandai will get butthurt over that. Odds are, as long as Atlus USA wants to, they will probably be able to secure rights to publish EF2 if and when it is made.

The problem is, Namco Bandai is very irrational about the whole deal there. I do see your point in it not being an actual Tales game, but they're possessive of the series in a way that would be comparable to Sony asking Nintendo if they could use Mario.
But then again, if they get a slice of the pie, they may not care. I just wonder if they'd ask for too much from Atlus. I still have to finish EF, since I've got a huge back catalog, but I'll say for sure, I'd definitely buy a sequel (and I know many others would also buy a sequel). So it'd be foolish for Namco Bandai to deny this, especially if otherwise the title would just sit in Japan and make no one in North America any money.

Tales + Super Robots could work, specially when you have a world like the one in Endless Frontier, where you have characters like Haken, Kaguya and Suzuka who looks pretty unsophisticated: linking medieval phantasy characters with sci-fi robots could turn out pretty nice.

This'll get localized. I just know it. A lot of SRW fanboys will probably complain that they may not localize Exceed due to the other SRW games remaining in Japanese, however this is a direct sequel to the original Endless Frontier and unlike the other SRW games, this one is a fresh game and not extremely old like the others. Theres a big chance that Atlus will localize this game, so try not to worry much. =)

Yep, Roa, M.O.M.O. and part of the support cast of the first game (Anne, Dorothy and Koma) will act as support attackers (or KOF strikers for that matter)
I'm quite pleased with a rather smaller fact, the speed of the actions is clearly faster compared to the first game. Meaning that the actual dificulty of the game will be enhanced -mostly the juggling part, now that some attacks drop the enemy to the ground as shown by Aschen- the judgement needed to get a better combo will be, logically, raised as well.
as said before, I'm already wishing for a localization.

Hamelen Silbato (Green haired flute guy)
Gerda Miroir (the snow chick)
Lok Eye (the purple haired demon guy)
Big The Guard (the red power ranger looking robot)
Cindy Bird (a character seen only on the official site)
The translation may not be 100% correct but its something.

As far as Rig the Guard, Cindy Bird and that one man in green, I'll tell you about them.
Cindy Bird is Aledy's master and expert of the Shura arts. Also, Rig the Guard is more of a Kamen Rider Homage then power rangers. Don't know what Kamen Rider is, then check out this new thread here.

And then there is the dude in green, he is named Pete Pain, otherwise known as W03. Yes there are more W-units that will make an appearance in this game, such as this mysterious one here.

That should be all until this comes out on the 25th of this month. And for crying out loud, stop thinking that Atlus won't localize this.
Just because certain circumstances caused most of the SRT threads to be locked doesn’t mean they gave up on this. The last game sold pretty well so this sould come next, the only thing I'm worried about is how they will handle it. We have that one mistranslation, the spoils and something that some was bothered with, if this will be dubbed or have subtitles for the inside jokes that will be in this game. The last vid alone has such jokes with animes such as Idolmaster and let’s not forget all the other funny things that will be missed this time around.
But I’m sure that not only Atlus will deliver but well do even more this time around, such as this game. So see you all later at the endless frontier, Atlus Fateful.

lol I still have to play number one, I'm at the beginning in the ship, DS isn't getting much attention from me, because I have disgaea 2 for my psp and FF VII and those are really addicting, but me want number two to.
Battle system is perfect and the characters to ^^

Here is a low quality version of the opening (idk if this is real or fake however it looks real to me) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p497SxwYOgU
And it released today in japan so for those of you who imported the game, please provide footage. I think i speak for everyone when I say "We would gladly appreciate it" =)
