Ever since I joined the atlus forums, I wanted a way to make a good introduction. But because of the five post rule, I couldn’t do it. Now before I know it, I'm up to 100 posts and made two threads that is still current. This is new to me because I have been on other forums before but have never stuck around for long and am happy that I joined. So, for 100 I decided to do some thing for persona 3. Now most of you know most of my post have been around SRT and despite that I have a name that is from the persona series. There is a reason for that, for most RPG's I tend to take my time with and persona is no different (even though it is one of my favorites). SRT is basically what I am playing right now and want to give support for OG/OGG because the Ps2 has maybe one or two more years left before companies stop bring games over here.

So for my first persona post I decided to do something different. I don't know if this was talked before about and or if it belongs in the persona 3 boards, so here goes. So I was looking at GT's videos from Destructoid’s "hey ash, what you playing" and saw one for Persona 3. I thought it was funny and a thought came to mind, it is pretty hard to explain this game to new comers, let alone non RPG players. Needless to say the vid couldn’t explain it so here is the question. If you are trying to introduce this game, how would you explain it to your friends? This one is and the one after it takes a different roll than you’re usual SMT game, due to the social link system that simulates a dating sim. So you're thoughts and Im off to play innocent sin( if my PC can work right) PERSONA !

I found a question!

However, I'm still as lost as everyone else.

Thats the first thing that came to my mind when I first read this.

That being said, I did enjoy the video.

.... because the Ps2 has maybe one or two more years left before companies stop bring games over here.

Except I don't see Atlus doing anymore PS2 games, they might do something outside of RPGs though. Since a recent e-mail they called Devil Summoner 2 "The playstation's RPG swansong".

Oh no, we'll certainly see a short burst where the PS2's library virtually explodes with shovelware and ports of PSP games, enduring this final embarrassment to its otherwise golden lifespan and die a quiet, solemn death as the PS3 finally takes over as a worthy successor.

From then on the internet will be graced with poorly made fansites espousing the superiority of the PS2 over the PS3 or 360 which will maintain frequent updates and a virtual explosion of e-popularity after which they will quickly become abandoned after the site's maintainer passes the torch over to an apathetic new administrator who promises to fix everything ever wrong with the site with a re-writing of all of the site's base code from the ground up which ends up being more of a task than he is prepared for and the site falls into disrepair after sparse updates over the course of a 4-5 year period followed by a long-winded apology letter posted within the last month explaining that a lot of heavy stuff was going on in his life at the time and that's why he stopped updating the website but he wants to thank everyone that posted on the forums and then he ends the post with some lame catchphrase like "Game on." or something equally nauseating.

I can make confusing posts too, see?

Somehow the least confusing post I've ever read of yours and the one I completly agree with is the one you write with the intentions of making absolutly no sense with. I'm still trying to understand what the OP is getting at but every time I try thinking about it my head hurts. What are they asking and where are they going with this?

I can speak this guys language, albeit it's taken years of being on the intarwebs to master it.

He is asking that if you were going to explain Persona 3 to someone who has never heard of it. How would you explain it?

He was using the video as an example, when Destructoid's failure of a internet show (Hey Ash whatcha playin'), that features on GT every once in a while, tried to do a crappy episode of explaining it to non-gamers or whatever.

Personally I find it easy to do.

Persona is a video game franchise that involves many historical and mythological figures, which are used as an character's way of battling in the game. The figures are, in the case of Persona 3, evoked from an individuals mind by way of an evoker (which looks like a gun), when this is done the figure -- otherwise known as persona in the game -- will perform an attack. The game tends to revolve around a group of youth, and their struggles they face in their life, all while trying to save something important to them.

Perfect explanation pibbman. :agree:

Ike.
05-09-2009, 09:08 AM
 Why would you need to explain to anyone what it is? The only people who would care enough to play it are probably already familiar with the basics of RPGs.

And really, basically every friend I've showed the game too has been won over simply by the faux-suicide. It's all you need.

p.s. ^^ that second paragraph I wrote? All one sentence http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-c00lbert.gif

I really hate Persona 3, so I shouldn't talk, but if you're trying to get someone into the Persona series, I suggest you start from one of the earlier ones, they are much more interesting than P3. Or at least P4. I don't mean to start a flame war here, but chances are that they will NOT like the idea of not being able to control your teammates, and delving an endlessly long tower with randomly-generated floors is not very appealing either, unless you already are into dungeon crawling. Anyway I don't mean to offend anyone with this post, just stating my opinion.

Is this thread really that hard to understand?

Ever since I joined the atlus forums, I wanted a way to make a good introduction. But because of the five post rule, I couldn’t do it. Now before I know it, I'm up to 100 posts and made two threads that is still current. When she (he?) first joined, she wanted to make an introduction thread, but could not. Now, because she has 100 posts, she can.

This is new to me because I have been on other forums before but have never stuck around for long and am happy that I joined. So, for 100 I decided to do some thing for persona 3.Other forums she/he has been too never really grabbed her and thus, her/his stay was short. However, she likes the forum very much; so, in light of her "achieving" 100 posts, she had wanted to make a thread with regards to Persona 3.

Most of her/his posts her were related to Super Robot Taisen, however, she has a screen name referring to the Persona series. This is because she likes to take time with her RPGs (?). She is currently playing a game in the Super Robot Taisen franchise and she wants to support that franchise, specifically Original Genrations and Original Generations Gaiden because she believes that game localization companies will cease to bring Playstation 2 games "over here" (presumably the United States).

The rest Pibbman explained, but really, what is wrong with her/his English?
...
Or is something wrong with mine?

Aaaaand I'm back! As Mr. kojima would say, "did you like it?"

I actually didn't expect this response; I just wanted to do something different for a change. Since I pretty much confused most of you with my post, I decided to explain myself and clear up some confusion.

Let’s get this out of the way now, I am indeed male and my native tongue is English, I find it funny some of you thought otherwise. I would like to guess why you thought I didn't speak English and am female. I guess by the avatar alone you would think I'm a girl but my first icon was indeed that of Tatsuya Suou from persona 2. I changed it to show my new found obsession to SRT OG Saga: Endless Frontier's very own dancing oni, micro-super robot controlling, princes Suzuka. http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/6554/080525mugen02w.gif

The other is the post itself; it seemed I confused most of you with it. Because of the fact that this is the first forum in like ten or more I’ve been on that has reached 100 posts, I sometimes post things that some people can’t read. The reason being is that my post can be paragraphed incorrect or I can sometimes be incoherent with them. With that being said, I thank the few of you who got what I was saying.

Now I’ll try to summarize my post in a more coherent fashion. Basically I originally wanted to post an introduction of myself in a proper matter. I was in the process of making an intro thread after the five post rule but after seeing the New Members board being pretty vacant with no new threads I thought it would be silly. Fast forward to post 100, I figured instead I do something unique and different from my usual SRT discussions. Since I am a fan of the SMT series I figured I post one for a change, but since I felt it is somewhat unrelated to the other ones on the boards I put it in the off-topic board.

I saw the “hey ash, what you playing, Persona 3” video awhile ago and thought of what would you say if you try to get you’re friends into this game. Because this and Persona 4 is the latest in the Persona series, I think for those new to it would ask what the game is all about. Needless to say the video itself was also to blame for some of the confusion as well.

Me personally, I started playing Persona 2: eternal punishment, and if I were to introduce someone to the SRT franchise I would start with that game. But because it is getting harder for average gamers to find Playstation games I said that the PS2 may have a year or two because even if atlus were to stop making games for it I’m sure other companies will try to keep it alive for a little while longer (I mean sony’s answer to the backwards compatibility issue to them is the PS2 with a 99.99 price drop, instead of making a less costly 60 gig that can play the other Playstation games with no problem)

So there you have it. For what it’s worth it is enjoyable seeing the reaction and some of you’re answers to my question was pretty good. To the one who said that this would crush my reputation and this would be my last post, then think otherwise. I’m not worried if this post bothers those who viewed it and I do apologize for the confusion. (even though the end result was pretty funny  )

Oh no, not your reputation, I meant your idea of the Atlus forums, since more or less you received uncoherent answers and unrelated stuff.
And don't take my post seriously, it was just a joke :) I just found strange that you decided to start from P3, that's all. After all, it's always a good think trying to introduce new people to the SMT series!

EDIT: Also, to view all the threads in the New Members section, you have to edit the "From The" thing, and select "Beginning", in the Display Options, err, thing. God, I'm bad at explaining things.

Tatsuya Suou
05-10-2009, 04:04 PM
I think you mean use Display Options menu below and go to the “From The” tab and scroll down "beginnings", witch would have solved my problem if I thought about it at the time. I use it when checking the views of my SRT dub project, I just happened to forget this time.

Had a felling you were joking so no worries on that, I just wanted to respond in case you weren’t. I started on P3 due to it being the latest next to 4. Now that I think about it if I want to introduce someone to a PS2 SMT game it would be either Nocturne or Digital Devil Saga. So keep enjoy the thread and see you later.
