Didn't someone already try to bring a team to Hamilton? And is this for real? It would be sweet if we had a team here in London.
Though my loyalty will always be with the Sens.

Same guy. Do you live in London? My best friend lives on Dundas. He has a MASSIVE game collection...
ps, you already have the London Knights. They're awesome!! I was there when they won their last Memorial Cup (2005).

It's a step in the right direction, so you should support anyway.
I HATED the nor-dickssss with a passion, so I want them back too

Not to me, it isn't. Seeing the Jets move up to southern Ontario (which already has a team) would be a slap in the face if I were a Winnipegonian.
The only thing more slappish in the face would be if I lived in Minnesota and saw my team move to Dallas. At least they got a team back. Plus a Koivu. <3

Pretty much what I had in mind. Though I doubt they'd be anywhere near as cool as they were in the olden days of Sakic and company.

Joe Sakic is still my favourite player of all time. Edges out Kirk Muller.
But yeah, I know what you mean. The Nordiques were special and irreplaceable. Nothing would satisfy, but it would still be nice to see a team back in a place that still deserves one.

Dude, the fact of the matter is that money speaks and right now the one flaunting all those mad billz happens to want to move the team to Ontario. Like it or not, it's better than having it rot in the desert.

I have no stake in this, since I hail from Vancouver and relocated to Ottawa. But I would support having another NHL franchise in the Golden Horseshoe, if only so that they can get some relief from their constant despair from having to cheer for the Leafs.

Yup. About your friend, how big is this game collection? And can I be his friend?
Yes, we do, but it would make the most sense if they relocated here. The four big cities include: London, Windsor, Hamilton and Toronto. Toronto has a team, Hamilton is close to TO, and Windsor too close to Detroit. Leaves us with London!

LOL you just have to buy him a beer. He collects RPGs for NES, SNES, PS2, Genesis and so on. I think he has all Virtual Boy titles, mint. The only thing he won't do is "next-gen"... not yet anyway. I don't blame him, not much to speak of RPG-wise.
No but seriously if you wanna hang out with him just drop me a PM. He's super cool and always down for gaming all-nighters.

He's tried to do this twice before, all for selfish reasons, and no concern for anything else. It's as if he's hell bent on moving a team to that specific region, no matter which team it is, how much it costs, or what other teams' revenue it will be causing an effect on.
I'd rather it be in the desert. And I think the NHL agrees with me on this one.

I'm with jeffx on one point: the Coyotes will be rotting in the desert. Now that they've gone Ch. 11, I imagine there's a non-insubstantial probability that it'll fold if Balsillie doesn't get his way. I have serious doubts if NHL owners will want to keep a franchise in Phoenix on life support in the middle of a recession with other franchises not doing too great in the US. If the owners fight this and the court finds in favour of the league, I imagine a dissolution draft.
I don't know if that would be better off for the league if the Coyotes move or dissolve. I personally think that the league is spread a bit too thin talent-wise and some trimming would be nice, I don't think that just shrinking is a viable way of keeping things going. If there are untapped Canadian markets, they should exploit them. Though I'm sure the owners of the Sabres must be crapping their pants right now.
And Sanctine, I should add that if Bettman gets his way and the Coyotes don't move, it's going to set a precedent for the league that means that it'll be a cold day in hell before there's a team in Quebec City again.

The whole point is that team relocation should be an absolute last resort. If that policy was taken as heavily back then as it is now, we probably wouldn't have lost the Nordiques in the first place. Or the Jets, for that matter.
But as you said, this is a recession, so naturally the team should be relocated if it is not making any money. I agree with that. However, southern Ontario is quite possibly the worst spot to move a team to off the top of my head. The last thing the NHL wants at this point is another team leeching revenue off other teams in an already over populated hockey zone, because of the recession.
Just because one rich guy gets a boner thinking of a hockey team in his hometown doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea.
The optimum spot for a team relocation, in my opinion, is for the team to actually move back to Winnipeg. They badly miss their team, and there is virtually no competition in the area. And the Conferences balance, too. And it's Canada. Couldn't think of a better spot if I tried.

Despite being a fellow Canadian (well, soon after I get my papers in), I'm not interested enough in sports to do this; however I will cheer from the sidelines whenever it's needed. :)

I agree with Sanctine 100%. The Sabres struggle enough without competition being that close. I imagine the Leafs wouldn't be particularly thrilled by it either. Seems ridiculous to damage two other teams (Quite possibly eventually killing Buffalo's team) to rescue one. Bad mojo right there.

Another slight problem that will have to be addressed, although purely logistical, is that the Eastern conference would jump to 16 teams and the Western 14. But who knows... maybe that will be the impetus to move the Islanders to Las Vegas.

Don't forget Detroit and Ottawa. Even Columbus might be affected by this, seeing as they're newer on the scene, and don't have the fanbase up there just yet.

I didn't even think it out that far, but you're probably right. Anyway you look at it (except maybe as a southern Ontario resident) it's more harmful than good.
