What's the point of playing violent... ahhh, 'mature' games when you can just walk outside? Most of us are already zombies meaning that we have to go to our nasty jobs, do things that we don't like, eat food made out of plastic and then die from horrible diseases. You can watch a bunch of murder news on the TV and even take part in the rally of death on the freeway. Government conspiracies, economic downfall and all sorts of craziness are all part of our world. There is no point in playing Fallout 3 or GTA IV when you can just walk outside. Heck, if you look around you'll even find your own Dogmeat.

The only big difference is that you haven't got any save slots IRL. God how much I'd like a couple of those. You know, to see all the alternate endings.

Yes but in mature games you get points for blowing away zombies. In real life you'd get locked up instead. So repeat after me "There are no zombies trying to eat you... There are no zombies trying to eat you..."
I don't think a mature game means it will be fun but it does mean that it may certain story elements that adults my find more interesting or unsual. I find blowing away zombies or stomping goombas to be equally fun depending on my mood in a given day.

What's the point of playing games in the first place? To have fun, on the most basic level. No need to sugar coat it. Obviously you can walk outside or watch the news to immerse yourself in "mature themes" - but is that fun? A games prime directive should be to give the player fun. The news won't do that for you; it's content delivery first, entertainment second.
Take note that the very first video game - Spacewar! - was about shooting the stuffing out of your opponent.
Mature games arose from the demand to do more in these games. I don't want to avoid falling into pits or dodging questionably shaped dragons; I want to shoot ####ers! People saw that as fun. So here's Contra, now have a go.
I think mature thematics like violence and sex arise in games because the consumer demanded more. Whether it's more fun it up to the gamer - but note that the gamer population at large brought this onto itself.
I play mature games because I live a mature lifestyle. Every day I reload my gun.

I play them since that's just what the game I'm interested in happens to be rated. I still think we need a Teen15+ plus rating like how they have E10+. There's a lot of M games that I don't think deserved such a harsh rating like Devil Summoner and Blood Will Tell.

I like mature games because in the real world, I'd get locked up for killing prostitutes and blowing up random buildings. Also, unlike the real world, I dont have to worry over those pointless things like work, healthy relationships, getting dumped by a girl, or pregnancy tests. Save points are definitly a plus over real life cause lets face it, if real life gave players the option to save and reload, none of us would be dead broke as we are. We'd all be super rich and save every five steps.
All jokes aside, mature games offer an aspect of gaming that E rated games are unable to offer. It's not to say they are better, just that the content available to M rated is greater then that of E. Often times the content consists of things either impracticle or as often noted, unethical and the perfered method people are given to live out such actions without fear of consequences is in a fiction based enviornment. Gaming offers such.
God, I forget, what was the point again?

Noticing a trend yet...? M ratings aren't just for FPSs and GTA, why do you enjoy playing P4?

Also, I don't remember eating food made out of plastic at any point in my life.

This definitely sums it up.
Also, if you want less M-rated content there's always somethin like....Kingdom Hearts....

What a useless thread, wow.
That's what I was thinking. It only matters to those that can't buy M games without help/permission. Now we are letting them know what they are missing out on. Turning into zombies and eating plastic food.

I could say the same for playing just about any game, like the Sims.
What a useless thread, wow.
Took the words out of my mouth.

I play M-rated games so I can feel like a burly man.
And I'm a woman.

I'd like to know how "playing M rated videogames" and "taking a walk outside" correlate in any way, shape, or form.

Does being a burly woman elicit the same feelings as being a burly man? Well I think this calls for an M game to flesh (yes, it will be full of gore) this out to fully indulge the mature audience out there questioning the brink of humanity's collapse resting on the choices made by a party of burly men and women.
Then again, you could just walk outside and ask yourself, "do you feel lucky?"
Well, do you?

Well, do you?I switch back and forth, and yeah, same feelings.
I don't feel lucky; I am lucky! Sometimes I find money skewered by my stiletto heels! And they didn't get there in the usual means so I must be lucky?

For one reason or another, I thought of 12 Monkeys.

I think it's time to say our eulogies for this thread. It was short-lived, but it served a purpose in all of our lives. Let's all take a moment out of our busy days for some silent reflection on how quickly some threads ignite and are burnt out, like a match that grants fire to a household appliance and is tossed aside.
