To put it in as few words as possible, awesome, except I wish the mecha didn't take a backseat to the humans, I paid for Super ROBOT Wars, not Super HUMAN Wars.

Most of your team isn't human, though. You've got several robot and an oni who uses a robot to attack, in addition to some other assorted non-humans.

The SRW series has always been full of stories about people. People who happen to be riding around in big honkin' robots, yes, but people nonetheless.

I'm enjoying the system so far, but the storyline and DoA tits are making me less interested in the game the more I play it. I'm not too far yet, so I'm hoping that the game picks up. As far as I'm concerned, The Dark Spire is probably my favorite game to come out of Atlus lately.

:agree:QFT! Many people tend to forget that. This game is dedicated to the much-overlooked pilots. ( even though no one in the game really pilots big honkin' robots)

It's the big honkin' robots I always played for, the pilots were just there to make them move. XD It's still a fun game, don't get me wrong, I just want more Super Robots from a game named after them.

I wish I knew some more story about this game, but I'll take what I can get :D

Also, the battle system is FREAKING AMAZING!!!

I love this game's battles so much!

Well yeah, the robots are what make the game, but come on. We get an android with a spilt personality, a Gambit style bounty hunter with a blade gun that is inspired by alts revolver stake and an awesome demon dancing princess with a super robot that you put it "got shrunk in the wash" she controls by dancing. Here is a shot of the mechanical god right here.

Anyone know what the level cap is by the way? And how much grinding is involved in achieving it?

My chracters are level 50 and 1 is 51 I just cant stop killing things so far 182 chain combo is my best and my max damage is so high i can't remeber it lol

Rurik

Hmm, if it's not 50 then it's probably either 99 or 100 then. (I hope it's 100, level 99 caps always bug me, it's silly, I know, but they do.)

Just got my copy from Amazon.ca. Can't wait to try it when I get home from work. I'm stil playing The Dark Spire and will be for some time but I think there's room for both of them.

Is chaining done by switching another party member in or something? Can you have chains go as long as you can too? It sounds interesting, I've been considering the game.

Neveryll
05-06-2009, 04:04 PM
Chains all depend if a character's turn is active or not and if they have enough of their action bar filled. When you intially start a round every character starts with 100% of their action avaiable. So in essense you can chain all four charaters in the front on one enemy if you want. Once you start getting more than four you can also launch support attacks in addition to the current front row character who is attacking. Needless to say most normal non-boss fights die within the first round of combat though part way in I'm finding some more resilient enemies finally. I would describe combat akin to watching a wild fight scene in a combat anime with lots of bounce. All in all its been a lot of fun.

I'm loving the humor in this game. Sure its juvenile, but its one of the first games to make me laugh out loud repeatedly (for DS). The battle system is nuts and once you figure out timing, it becomes much easier to battle (I button mashed for a little while until I died in the first 10 minutes of gameplay and restarted). Its just what I needed this month as a pick-me-up.

growlanservoter

Chaining happens when ou see a chracters picture in the lower right of the screen left for support wen you get more than 4 toons and right for the next person in line also the person following in a chain has to be right behind the previous peron if a monster comes before the 2nd person they can't be added to a chain. On a side note I love Abends support attacks :D

I'm loving it, I haven't gotten very far but it's a really fun game with a very refreshing battle system, and funny story, not to mention the obvious busty cast.

Is anyone else having trouble juggling Heavy enemies? If the enemy is heavy and has the ability to Force Evade, I've had situations where my first attack fails to juggle them properly and they force evade in the middle of the second or third hit. This also tends to happen when the enemy shields hits, because the enemy then pops up and gets juggled at the wrong moment, landing between or after the following hits and force evading the rest of the combo.

It's really aggrivating when I waste 2-3 characters turns on something I should have been able to easily kill in a single attack just because the game decided it didn't want to let me combo.

Decept
05-11-2009, 09:20 AM
^Yes, I have had that same situation happen to me plenty of times. I usually burn a support action to compensate. That way, depending on who is attacking/supporting, the enemy is sure to be in the air.

Suzuka has a skill to prevent that... I wonder if it comes in item form later in the game?

Gen Eric Gui
05-11-2009, 09:49 AM
Suzuka's skill makes it so that her attacks don't miss or get guarded, she can't prevent Force Evade or break shields.

KOS-MOS can break shields, but it still doesn't help with the Force Evades. I probably just need to play around with my support timings like Decept suggested.

It just seems a little silly to me, is all. There shouldn't be instances where an enemy can break your entire attack string in the middle of your first attack.

Most annoying thing ever. I am not saying it should be a super easy thing, but god, I have had it happen with aschen, where her first punch hits, and the thing force evades before the 2nd... ouch.

It could also bring up the strategy part of this game. Do you go back and re-assess your opener? Give all your characters quick hitters that also juggle well instead of looking at dmg/force amount? It definitely doesn't kill the game when it happens because it just makes you think a bit more about your strategy.

jeffx

Not what I'm talking about. I don't have the game with me right now, but she has a Spirit that makes it easier to juggle enemies. They "bounce" higher.

Either way, most of the Force Evade things seem to happen when either... you time your combo right (???) or you "don't" (cancel bonus).

In other words, it appears to be completely random.

Decept
05-11-2009, 10:34 AM
^That spirit (cheer?) would help if she was the opener for the chain because she would get the enemy higher in the air than normal, and then your goal would change to keeping them that high rather than damage/special.

Yes, it is a random chance when the touch the ground and usually heavy or boss enemies have a huge chance to force evade after touching the ground to the point of say 9/10 times that you see [!] they will force evade.

Lol I happen to run across the sauce file of you're sig here (http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/7233/2933164.jpg)

That Pixie sure is uncountable with her "do not want" face. (well I wouldn’t mind being in there:wink:)

..Anyway, like I said I can't get enough of the dialog and innuendo in this game. I was won over when Haken called t-elos "Ms. mocha mecha". Some others I like is Kaguya constantly being called part-cow due to here outfit and "other obvious thing”. Another I can remember is the insults between Suzuka and Aschen as said below

Suzuka: Hey blow up doll girl; I don't think they’re our enemies.
Aschen: You might be right princes washboard.

I also found a little since withHaken flirting with Anne (http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/4949/gogohaken.jpg) and got burned.

Kudos atlus for the dialog, can't wait for OG/OGG once you announce it.

Im already hooked on this game ,the Mechs ,the References, The Raunchy humor, KOS-MOS, Japanese Dialouge,Kaiser's Battle Force logo in Schlafen Celeste, What more could I ask for! well i still wish for Fighter Roar,(maybe in the sequel W/similar references to SD the Great BattleII,II IIII & IV:seesaw, & yes punch me if im Kaiser Fanatic..............:seesaw:

Ha ha, so you notice the wreckage in Schlafen Celeste. (clearly stating they were from the shadow mirror world) I up to the last world in the game and for a spoiler warning, one of the last robots you fight is a compact brother of this Mech (http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/4776/persoenlichkeit.jpg).

Fan of Compatible Kaiser (http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/269/greatcompatiblekaiser.png) huh? Want to see him and OG/OGG for the ps2, make sure to give you're support in the suggestion thread by voting for five. I tell this for others who see the tread and want to see more OG by atlus.

Also for the over observant ones who play this game, Haken initial crew of the Zeit Krokodil is a tiger-man second in command, Lee and an half-elf scientist Marion. I don't know if you notice but Marion is exactly the same as the scientist of OG, Marion Radom (http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/2875/marion.png). She is well known for inventing the Alteisen (or as she called Gespenst MK-III.) Aside form the half-elf thing these two are identical. (perhaps a shadow mirror version)

Anyway for those who play this, try to look out for many OG 1 & 2 references.
