View Full Version : Games you'd rather jump off a cliff than give away?

Basically like the topic says, I'm sure everyone has games on their shelves they would never dream of giving away/selling/etc. I'm curious as to what these are for people here?
Note - Does not have to be Atlus specific
In no particular order.
Persona 3: FES, Persona 4, Devil Summoner, Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Jeanne d'Arc, Valkyria Chronicles, Red Alert, and FF9.
While I have more games on my shelf, the ones above I pretty much would never part with.
What is your list?

Nocturne is the first one that comes to mind, but really, I don't like getting rid of games at all.
So far, these are mainly due to their Rarity otherwise I'd give them away, if I could get them back.(plus I have two copies of Nocturne...)
Though the first one is one I intend on keeping to the grave.
Chrono Trigger on SNES (It was more or less a Christmas Present from my mom and semi Unique for that)
SMT: III: Nocturne.
Persona 2: Innocent Sin.
Xenogears.
And Chrono Cross.
EDIT: I forgot to Add, Legend of Zelda: Links awakening, I spent a LONG time on that, and I still play it to unlock its mysteries...

I generally hold on to my entire collection - I think the only game I've ever sold was SSB:M, so that I could by Fable 2 and the new Castlevania in the same week.
But if I had to pick ONE game...probably "Zombies Ate My Neighbors!". That game is so relevant to my interests, it's scary.

I see you don't have Nocturne on that list. That is sad. but anyways I don't want to sell my games at all heck the biggest mistake I did was sell Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 for PS2. God why did I sell it.

I love each and every game I own, even if I stop playing them I intend to keep them as long as possible. My games are going to the grave with me, specially my Megaten collection! :D

My mint copy of Dracula X for Turbo Duo which I got in around 1995. It might not be the rarest game on earth and it surely dropped in value over the years, but god damn I love that game.

I can buy back any game in my collection, as long as I have my memory cards. And games that came out before Memory cards are generally short enough that I can get back to wherever I was in a relatively short amount of time.
If I jump off a cliff, I can never play games again.
Therefore, no game is worth jumping off a cliff for.
Although, I am kind of attached to Nocturne and Suikoden 2.

Aladdin (GBA)
Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower (I'm on my third copy now, and think I've learned my lesson)
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Illbleed
Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja
Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns
Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad
Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers
Psychonauts
Trace Memory
... that about covers it for games I couldn't see myself parting with.

Of course you could buy back any game, however most games that people would never give away are ones that are rare.
Giving away a rare one because you could buy it later, depends on the person I guess. If I already had an existing copy, gave it away and found out later I had to put $100+ on a copy because of its rarity, I'd probably be kicking myself for it because I dont have cash to burn.
I guess that really only applies for companies like Atlus though, or those old classic titles that had a somewhat limited print. I think I'd be more willing to give/sell a title that was maybe something like a greatest hits or something of that type, since they are easier to find.
Another reason why I did this thread was because it's an interesting way to see what games hold a special value to an individual.

None, for obvious reasons stated above.
However, there's no reason to post if I won't answer the question, so I'll say Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne.
There is not a person on this planet that I would loan my copy of Nocturne to, and I own a sealed copy as a backup just in case. I'd also buy it again if the Chronicles version came out. (I still secretly hope that it's hiding in the box behind the Raiho plushies and Atlus just won't tell us because they want it to be a surprise.)

Hmmm sad but true I think I'm with most people when they say my whole darn collection. I'm picky to the point there hasn't been a single game I have that I don't like for one reason or another. (The exception being Beyond the Beyond. Burn baby burn...) I guess the oldest would be the ones I would be least likely to get rid of that being my Infocom Zork Collection, Bard's Tale collection and Might and Magic Collection for the PC. I remember some of my fondest nights staying up late going through Bard's Tale I with my dad. Chuckle. I stayed up some nights until midnight or 1 am and oh my mom would be pissed if she caught us doing it on a weekday. HEH

For me it would definetly be my copies of Shining Force 3 Scenarios 1, 2 and 3 along with the Premium disc.
The Premium disc was a bitch to find at the time. I had to actually get a copy from a guy on the Shining Force Central forums. It was worth it though.

As people have said, jumping off a cliff would obviously result in death, meaning an end to my gaming (unless you get to play games in Hell), but I would rather cut my foot off Saw style rather than part with these, ranked by my favs:
1. Ouendan 2
2. Space Channel 5
3. Devil Summoner
4. Gitaroo Man
5. SMT: Nocturne
Before someone scolds me for having Nocturne so low please allow me to explain. I LOVE the game, but it goes in streaks when I get the urge, or the time, to play it. I'm not a fan of frequent random battles so if I'm already in a bad mood Nocturne isn't the game I want to play.

MML2Is this MegaMan Legends 2? Because if it is, then I'm the same. I would never ever sell my copy of MegaMan Legends 2 and RockMan DASH 2 for PSP. I would also never sell Valkyria Chronicles, Persona 3: FES, Persona 4, Metal Gear Solid 1-4, Final Fantasy VI, and my Kingdom Hearts collection. Then again, I would never sell most of the games I have, including the ones I don't really play like Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne or Xenosaga I and II.

Etrian Odyssey
Etrian Odyssey II - I'm way attached to both of these games, not because they're semi-rare but because they're arguably my best DS games.
Persona 4 - Again, just one of my favorite games. I'll never part with this one.
Power Stone
I don't have Nocturne so piss off if you don't like that it's not on my list.

Also, so as to stay on topic and avoid the mod squads wrath:
I've never traded/sold a game in all my many years of gaming. I suppose that would suggest that all of them would qualify.

Anyway.....

Panzer Dragoon Saga
Double Dragon Advance
Bare Knuckle II
Etrian Odyssey
DQ III Reprise
Blah.....I could list forever...

Not necessarily, Kakizaki, as I love Shadow of Destiny but am more than willing to give it away. This topic should be "What games would you save in a fire?".
Anyways, I'm going to go with my Atlus collection, Splatterhouse(s), Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Vandal Hearts, and both Mega Man collections.

My favorite games aren't necessarily the ones that are more precious to me. For example the one I mentioned, my copy of FFIII, is more for sentimental value than anything else. (though I love the game)

None. Every game can be had for the right price and reguardless of it being a different copy, no amount of time will ever re-create the original experience had when first playing it. As such, every game in my collection can be given away, sold, or traded upon my mood. I just dont feel like getting rid of anything at the moment. The extras I would gladly sell or trade but that's a different story.

I wouldn't get rid of anything. To me, this is a question of rarity, so I suppose my Megaten collection would certainly qualify (Atlus collection really). Also, games like MGS3 Subsistence LE, Valkyrie Profile, Lunar(s) 1 and 2 would definitely qualify as rare I think. I've always joked with family that if my house was ever on fire, the first thing I'd do is open the window and throw my games and stuff outside as fast as possible, for as long as I could without dying. It's not that it isn't all replaceable, but that it took so long to acquire all that I have, and to lose it would be devastating.

NONE of my games will ever willingly leave my possession again. In October of 2008, I needed an extra hundred bucks so I pawned the majority of my games with a pawn shop I've been working with for years. They knew how important my games were to me and would even call me to remind me the loan repayment date was coming so I could renew, for a small fee, or make sure and come in to repay the loan and retrieve my items. When I went to pick up my games, I paid the bill, they went to the back, and couldn't find my items. Long story short, they had given them to some schmuck with the same last name as me, and while Christmas shopping in Gamestop, I found a few of my copies of the games. (My ex had rescued a dog that had RUINED my copy of Suikoden IV for the PS2 ~It was unmistakably mine) I'm still working with the prosecuting attorney's office for my restitution. The detective recovered a few items from the guy's house, but he still owes me 500-600+ dollars (19 PS2 games, 8 DVD Boxed Sets, and 4 single DVDs). They said he will more than likely also serve jail time.

I wonder how the guy knew there was something there. Does he randomly go into pawn shops and say his name to pick something up?

He had items in the shop as well. They (the pawn shop) had recently started to crosstrain employees between two of their locations. There was ONE new woman working there whom I had never seen. I'm almost certain she made this mix-up, as all other employees (only 3) knew me personally. I have no proof of this, it just seems most logical to me.

I find this everywhere.
I see VII a lot, too, but when I do it's always pretty pricey. Maybe it's changed since its appearance on PSN, but that's how it was a while back.
I love most of my games, but I'm not sure if I'd be heartbroken if I lost any of them. Especially since a lot of them are opened, gutted, missing stuff, or are just beat the hell up. Then again I'm not a collector. Well, not for games anyway.

I have to echo the sentiments of the people who are clingy to their entire colection, but my most jealously guarded are...
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and it's append disk..(PS2)
My collection of Key games...(Air, Kanon, Clannad, and Planitarium) (PS2)
Fate/Stay Night (PS2)
Legend of Mana
BlazBlue
These games are my treasures, as much for how I got them as the fun I've had playing them. That's why no Atlus games made the list - they have all been fun, but they just kind of shown up in the mail. They don't have any dramatic stories attached to them.
Pokemon Pearl would be on the list, but my first copy of it got stolen (along with my DS) and I lost the 200+hr file on it. I bought and beat it again, but I've had a really bitter taste in my mouth about the game since.

Wow this one is hard for me because I have probably 200 games... um..
I wouldn't go as far as jumping off a cliff, but the stuff I'd really not want to give up:
My CIB copy of Revelations: The Demon Slayer
Persona 4 (by far my favorite game ever)
Star Ocean 2 (the original for PSX.. I waste my life away on it)
Lunar 2 (either my SCD vers or my PSX version)
My .hack collection (the 4 original games CIB w/dvds)
Parasite Eve / Parasite Eve 2 (mostly sentimental, but also fun)
Xenosaga 1/ Xenosaga III (some of my favorites)
MK: Rayearth on Saturn (took me forever to get a complete copy w/Umi disc and stickers... never read/saw the series but my gf likes it and I havent gotten around to playing it yet)
There's probably way more, but those are what come to mind.
I wouldn't get rid of anything. To me, this is a question of rarity, so I suppose my Megaten collection would certainly qualify (Atlus collection really).
