Eh. The well just hasn't run dry yet. I keep hoping that they'll do a full-fledged re-imagining of the first two games in the series, bettering the art design, making a DQVIII-style overworld, and including an actual story. Yoshida serving as art director and character designer, Nomura no where to be found.
The Bayonetta demo is going to be released on the Japanese Xbox Live and PSN accounts on October 8th, JST. Don't forget to check it out!

Dracula X IS Rondo of Blood
I believe you're confusing what Hitoshura said: When the SNES version of Rondo of Blood was released, it was simply called Dracula X. There was no Rondo of Blood moniker. That only came later when it was officially translated in the Dracula X Chronicles compilation.
The listing shows Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. I doubt this is the same "Dracula X" for the SNES release, since they also list it under the TG-16 category, which is the US equivalent to the PC-Engine.

Ogre Battle® 64: Person of Lordly Caliber™
Original platform: Nintendo 64™
Publisher: Square Enix
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: T (Teen) – Mild Language, Mild Violence
Price: 1,000 Wii Points
Description: Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber is a tactical RPG originally released for the Nintendo 64™ system. Featuring a gripping storyline with many possible endings, plus a genre-defining character class system, this strategic epic has rightly retained its place in the hearts of tactical RPG fans for more than a decade. The game tells the story of Magnus Gallant, a recently graduated officer of the Palatinean Army who is assigned to the troubled southern region of his native land. There he witnesses the plight of the lower classes – the victims of a tyrannical ruling elite whose only thought is for the preservation of its own lofty status. With civil war brewing, Magnus is faced with a terrible choice: to betray his own noble origins in the name of liberty, or to turn a blind eye to the evils of his rotten society.

Every forum I've been to has been very positive about the new Contra. I'm not a fan of anime but when I heard the new Contra was being developed by Arc System Works I thought, damn it's going to look good, and if their fighters are anything to go by it's going to play great.

Eh, not being able to play PS2 discs on my PS3 is but a minor nuisance since I can just as easily switch to my PS2 anyway. Paying $300 for a PS3, then an extra $60 for a PS2 sounds more reasonable than paying for an old $600 PS3 that can play both.
And I find it funny that people are only now starting to complain that newer systems can't play older system games. Hasn't it been like that since, what, the SNES?
Anyway, I like that PS2 games are being digitized. Hopefully a bunch of PS2 games that I never got to buy go on the PlayStation Store.

Backwards compatibility is older and more respectable than you think. For example, the Atari 7800 was backwards compatible with the Atari 2600.
But the issue is not backwards compatibility itself. We've reached the point where backwards compatibility can be done in software, no extra hardware needed. And the PS3 is clearly backwards compatible with PS2 games. But instead of letting us play PS2 games off discs we already own, Sony is selling our own games to us again, only DRM'd with no guarantees.

I can't believe that this is the case, yet they DON'T allow backwards compatibility. It just sounds foolish to not put it in there when it is software based now.
I suppose it's one of those tactics to sell actual PS3 games, but the existence of anyone who would buy a PS3 to sit on their PS2 collection sounds rather dubious to me.
What I find more mind boggling is that the 360 runs most Xbox games, but some don't work... Something to do with how they emulate them if I remember correctly.

To run xbox games each requires a patch specific to the game so that it emulates and runs properly. Even with the patch, some games have bugs and glitches and are less-than-perfect. The fact there is no universal xbox emulator you can use to play games on your pc shows that whatever code/method that was used to make xbox games was .. really strange lol.
I wish the patch list for the 360 was more universal, and I wish they actually had worked to expand the list of compatible titles a bit more so that it was really all encompassing. But most of the stuff I would play is there and what few I have tried on the xbox actually ran pretty damn good. I just wish the xbox did a better job of actually using anti-aliasing to clean up the images a bit more like the 60gb ps3 fatties do.
But yeah, Sony isn't about to open the floodgates with backward compatibility for older ps2 games anytime soon, if ever. Why give away what they can sell, you know? Not to mention with the leap to re-release already created games in HD by having the creator just remaster the textures, add a few updated models and streamline it to run on the newer hardware, they can toss out new old material for very little development cost and grab up even more product. Backwards compatibility competes with that potential profit, so really, both Sony AND game Publishers stand to lose.
AND most folk taking advantage of backwards compatibility nowadays are going to grab used copies of games to enjoy it, so again, no profits for the publisher there aside from intrinsic "since i loved this old ps2 game i'll go buy a new copy of their sequal ps3 game" .
With so many studios closing their doors, laying off workers, or fighting to find revenue to pay their employees, the market for gaming is still showing to be turbulent waters in this economy. So the ability to sink a (comparatively) small amount of money into games re-eleased via HD upscaling, psvita/3ds re-releases, is actually a godsend for these folks .
I would prefer not to have to resort to such measures, and have nothing but new and creative IP's hitting shelves every month. But really, it may be a long time before we see that kind of golden age again.

The way I look at it is the next time a new PS system comes out and Sony makes no way to have any previously purchased Playstation Store downloadable games accessible on the new system and actually tries to make "Buying it again on the new system too!" the only option to play older games I really enjoy- well, I will get my games and play them but they will not get any money from me over it. Pardon the lack of cohesion in my sentence, got a bad cold grogging me up this morning.
I just think their comes a point where if a huge company won't bloody listen to what the consumer wants (or takes away what they're already happy with) then they don't derserve to flourish and profit due to their questionable business practices.
I might be off my rocker here and not be looking at the situation right, but it's just my two cents. I was VERY frustrated when my fat PS3 bombed. I have a backlog of great PS2 games I still want to play and have no way to. I had to get a Slim. It still pisses me off. I'll probably just get another PS2, but it's the silliness of already taking away a feature that for me, was the only "extra feature" I care about at all.

I wish it was more universal myself.
I'm going to be honest though, a lot of these re-releases are a god send for ME. As much as I hate the idea of lack of backwards compatibility and so and so forth, there are A LOT of games that I have realised that missed out on that I really shouldn't have.
The reason I know about them now, is thanks to the knowledgeable people on this forum that did play them. Stuff like Zone of Enders, Metal Gear Solid, a plethora of Atlus games and a plethora of survival horror games (including a large chunk of Resident Evil).
As such, all these re-releases are a great way for me to actually try out these series, but when everyone starts crying 'milking' or start talking about the backwards compatibility issues like we are it feels odd to actually be benefiting from these decisions. Especially when for all intents and purposes, said people speaking out can often be right.
However, I also think those same people forget not everyone played these games. Sure, we could go buy a cheap PS2 and get them preowned, but not all games are that common or cheap. Or they are like me and just don't buy preowned.
It doesn't help that in Australia, a lot of Atlus games just weren't released, and other game series that did get a release were in short supply and vanished quickly...

^I very much feel you and know what you're saying. I live in Canada and have a really hard time finding a lot of games if I don't snap them up by a few weeks after the release date (and obviously this is not always possible).
I see both sides. I LOVE that they are releasing games on the PS Store but I also own a lot of PSX and PS2 games that I refuse to pay for again to play, so I'm stuck in Limbo until I get a big PS2. It irritates me that they can't satisfy both sides by leaving things as they are (not discontinuing backwards compatibility) and still giving all gamers free chance to buy older games released on the PS store that they missed out on. Instead they are putting off many long-time gamers, the very people who are the reason the company got to where it is today.

Yeah, I kind of would love to see them hit a middle ground where , for those that have hard copies of older games, you could download a patch to allow it to play on the new console for a small fee(yeah, it's is still diggin in my coffers, but a couple bux isn't THAT big a deal) or maybe a game pass(a $10 fee that opens access to say, all games put out by publisher X) and for those who do not own the game, having it out on the digital download store to purchase outright.
Mostly because there is a lot of games that were worth checking out that are a: tough to find in any market due to the publisher being off the radar and b: games that have seen their publisher die and the chances of getting a digi download or HD release are next to nil.
Though that will still leave a massive hole for smaller or less popular games that didn't make six digit unit sales records.

I agree. All sound like feasible options, but I still think backward compatibility is not beyond them. I'm not a graphics whore. I enjoy games with good gameplay, good atmosphere, good story, etc. I like strategy, simulation and adventure games. Games like these don't need the powerhouse that current generation systems are to be extremely enjoyable. Yet I always feel I'm being forced to saddle up with current generation games that are nothing but a bunch of polished movies with a bit of interaction here and there. I feel like I'm wasting my money to play one long, over-hyped movie. I miss when games felt like actual games. I miss actually feeling like I solved something or used my brain to advanced. I miss when I really got into the story because the world and characters and story were so lovingly crafted; now I get to marvel over being able to count the number of eyebrow hairs they have and this somehow makes this character "well developed".
There ARE good current gen games. I am getting older and partly nostalgic, but I really believe the gaming industry has become a sterile, Hollywood production business machine and the little guys out there making good games are getting over shadowed too often.
I feel the current gen games are trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Where is my game? Where is the thought process and strategy? Why can I button mash through so much?
I really disliked FFXIII for this reason. I did find the battle system interesting, but the first 10 - 20 hours of the game were a confined, linear tutorial movie that bored me to tears and make me think Square is trying way too hard in all the wrong places. I didn't care about the characters, the story seemed trite and nothing but a pretty movie. A pretty, soulless movie. Nice to look at and possibly entertaining but meaningless in the end.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360
Wikipedia has a really interesting article of bugs that show up when playing original Xbox games on the 360. For instance, Shenmue 2 has a bug that makes certain characters headless.
I can imagine this is the same situation with software PS3 backwards compatability where each game will need individual tweeking. I own the backwards compatible "fat" ps3 and that even has glitches with some disc games.

I think one of the most overlooked problems is that 'hardcore' gamers are militant consumers. Very militant. I'm going to assume that you err on the 'hardcore' side and not casual considering how long I can tell you've played videogames.
Hardcore gamers will usually make it known they dislike a game, and loyalty to a series is pretty much tied to their perceived quality of a series. The moment it starts to dip for an extended period, you'll find most will drop it hard.
Now that there is a casual scene to gaming, and a massive one at that, there is no point trying to appease the fickle masses of the hardcore gamers. They just aren't worth the time or money. And, as much as most hardcore gamers aren't that fickle, the most vocal gamers by far are the fickle ones. When all you hear is "It's not good enough", "It's too different", "It's not different enough" or, my personal favourite, "We need more innovation!", why bother catering to these people? There is always enough haters to make creating deep games not worth it. Always. The casual fans need to be appeased to make a buck nowadays, and that can lead to cheapening of the workings of the game. All it's really doing is making the militant fans more militant than ever.
With the rise of casual gamers, the militant ways of many 'hardcore' gamers and the general commercialisation of an industry that started out very humbly, deep games are becoming few and far between.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a 'hardcore' gamer myself and I'm very annoyed at the seeming decline of videogame quality. The simple fact of the matter is, there is nothing we can do but live with it. It's just like movies and music now. You just need to hang out for what you do like. It can be a minefield of bad games masquerading themselves as good, but it's all we can do now.
I don't disagree by the way. I just think that nobody seems to pull the fans up on anything except 'nostalgia goggles'. I highly doubt that's their only problem.
To kinda keep this on topic, I'm kinda hoping that PS2 games will be made available to the PS Vita store. I'd like a mobile version of a game or two. That, and I prefer RPGs to be handheld. Stupid little quirk of mine, but what can I do? They just feel better that way to me! :D

I drift between casual and hardcore, I guess, depending on how busy I am and how much I'm working.
Yeah, there are a lot of nit-picky elitist gamers out there that like to bitch and moan about everything that comes out. I am just disappointed that there seems to be such a drop in game quality even from companies that I have always been impressed with for years and years on end.
I just wish there was a middle ground and that there wasn't such a mass scramble to make a quick buck on ####ty smart phone games and bland games meant to appeal to the casual gamers. I'm sick of McDonalds from gaming companies day in and day out. They know how to make some classy dinners yet I have been waiting for something substantial for years from many of them. It seems the industry is stagnanting on a whole or has become greedy and lazy, it seems to me, if you'll forgive my food metaphor.
To be on topic too, I do like that we have all these choices at the tips of our fingers on the respective consoles stores, I just wish the influx of casual gaming wasn't making the industry so stale.
I've also been impressed with a lot of handheld stuff lately- RPG's and strategy games in particular. There's nothing like being able to curl up with a good game in your room/bed when someone wants to use the flatscreen/console in the living room. :3

You basically got how I feel about it Cammy. It's worse about those elitist gamers because they bitch about games before they even come out! Hell, even now we got no clue if the story will suck or not.

I think they're relying on the concept that " if the story for part 1 was trash, anything related to it MUST be even more trash."
Sort of in the realm of " Hey EWE Bolle's Bloodrayne was crap, and he's making a sequal!"
I will admit it is a bit presumptuous, but really.. How often has a sequal to what was a terrible property completely turned around the franchise and made everything ok?

All PS3s are BC with PSX games, for the record. Anyway I would download GrimGrimoire if I had the space on my 40GB HDD, but I don't at the moment.
