I think the topic is a bit different here to warrant a new thread, since this one is specifically about demo gameplay footage.

Back on topic, honestly....I don't think this looks that great at all. It doesn't get me all pumped up like Atlus titles do. :P

I'll have to check this out when I get home. The revelation of the 360 version (sorry Pibbman :() pretty much made E3 for me last year.

It's probably gonna look like ass in comparision, but whatever. I am still playing last-gen RPGs, after all :D

Lol, so what should people talk about in a FF13 thread?

Looks good, but the menu layout for battle looks annoying as Hell. Reminds me of Kingdom Hearts, and I ####in' hated their battle menu set-up.

I didn't understand it at all. I know next to nothing about this game; is it turn based or real time?

Also, where's the guns? I thought you could use a gun or something; at least, that's what the trailer lead me to believe.

^ The battle system is based on action points. The long thin bar represents the amount of action points you have and the command you select use up a certain amount of points. AP recharges automatically during the course of battle.

Did you actually watch the video? The black party member has two (count them two!!!) guns, and other characters use guns as well.

Yeah I agree Pibb, I wasn't to impressed either but then again SE games don't really tickle my fancy either. I got a lot of flack on the FFXIII forum I'm on for saying I didn't really care for the gameplay.

No, it's not going to look crap. The only noticeable better part of the PS3 is the processor, which, at least of what I've hard, is hard to fully utilize in a game.

The only thing I'm worried about though, is probably the fact that we would have to install it just to avoid terrible load times and texture loading. And I bought my 360 from the wrong store, so I only have lik 7 gigs left ;__;

But the game looks really great. I like the battle song a lot, and it looks fast-paced just like FFX-2. Looks promising. I'M FEELING THE HYPE

AP? Like FF12?

I did watch the video, FYI. It looked alot like swords, what she was using...

I thought battles were like a real-time version of the ATB system.

The way it was explained to me was that when the ATB bar fills up, you can attack until the ATB bar empties again.

^Well yeah, like I said the bar has a certain capacity and each command you use takes a specific amount off of the bar. Whenever the turn is over the bar recharges.

I was just using the actions points as an example because I thought it would help simplify the explanation. I guess that didn't work.

What?! It goes to a battle screen instead of the seamless battles in FFXII?! Aww man... Well, I'll definably get FFXIII anyway since it looks like a lot of fun if you ask me.

So I just finished playing this demo for the first time (of many, no doubt). I'm still a little confused as to how things work, but I'm actually liking the battle system! The demo gives like, 4 moves for the character: attack, "special" (have no idea what this is exactly, but it helps with chains), magic level1, and magic level2. Different enemies were weaker to different combos, so if you did a "special"/attack/attack that flung a soldier enemy into the air, that same combo would not do as well against the chimera things. It's fun trying to figure out what works best.

Now, the demo has your teammates automatically healing you and never running out of MP. I don't know if that's how it will be in the actual game (I'm guessing a big old NO on that one), but it made the first time through much easier.

Though I'm not a fan of teammate AI, I'm digging this game! The characters are all pretty cool and the environments/details are gorgeous!

If you know someone who got the demo, I'd say try it out instead of just watching the video. I'll probably play this a few more times and get some other people on it so I can figure out exactly what I'm doing, but I can say it makes a difference playing vs. watching.

Er, long story short? I'm into it so far! ^_^

^I didn't think the characters actually had mp. Don't you just use the ATB bar for magic attacks?

Probably? I'll be honest, I didn't get a good look at everything the first time around since I was frantically trying to kill things (lol, which is why I'm not a fan of "real-time" battles). Now that I know your team will always heal you, I'm going to start trying new things and taking my sweet time about it. ^_^
