We've discussed at these forums voice-acting a lot, so I figured everyone would be interested in a recent article I stumbled upon. It is pretty damn good, giving some insight into how certain game companies work with voice actors. This article explains a lot and backs up what a lot of users here have suggested, such as voice actors coming in with no rehearsals and/or previous knowledge of character.

I'd be curious to hear how Atlus runs their voice-acting recordings and such.

If by "stumbled upon" you mean "was on the front page of Kotaku this morning," then yes, I stumbled upon that article too. Our own Nich Maragos has written an article about voice acting, as well. You can find it here:

i, too, have stumbled upon this

Seriously though it makes some good points. There's been something just fundamentally different in how Japanese-based media has been VA'd, I've just never been able to put a finger on quite what. This article answers that question.

An Interesting find, thank you both for the links. Voice Acting has been a big issue as of late. (what with one particular thread on this board is proof enough)
I myself seem to be pretty forgiving when it comes to dubbing in video games. It has to be really bad for me to say something about it.

That being said I do like it when I find a game with pretty good Voice Acting in it. I know that it is difficult to please everybody and I know that sometimes due to circumstances, high quality Voice-Acting can be sacrificed for the sake of the game.

The two other Articles’ that are within the Kotaku one is also pretty good. One show’s off voice samples to compare the tone and such, kind of like how I am doing with my little SRT dub project. Specking of that, I'm going to use the atlus Article on my thread soon, if you don't mind Onion.

To me and I'm sure many others, Voice Acting can sometimes either make or break a game especially in RPG's. This is a good read for those who are concerned about the Voice Acting of today.

That would indeed be the definition of stumbling upon, unless I specifically began googling for articles on voice-acting. Then it wouldn't.

Thanks for the link.
