View Full Version : Why was The Answer so... Gimped? (Kinda Spoilers)

Really, I mean, I can understand the whole removal of the social links thing (though it would've been awesome to see them actually DO something with the whole "repeating day" concept), but... did they REALLY need to remove the demonic compendium? Heck, they could've ran with the whole "inheriting the wild-card" thing and let Aigis have the main character's compendium carry over, which would fit with the whole "let's make it harder" thing. And did they REALLY need to put the teleports after the boss? Sure, it "adds challenge", but really all it does is make you sneak your way past the enemies so you can fight the boss un-crippled.
At least, despite the fact that the whole game up until the endgame was repetitious as heck (IE 1-2 bosses and 2-3 floor runs for plot you already knew anyway, and a slight advancement to a VERY obvious plot), the endgame was pretty neat (I'll admit, the cutscene before the final boss got me pretty pumped).
So, why did they feel the need to constrict the game SO much? Bleh. Still, glad I played it, but it really doesn't live up to the Journey.

While I do agree that some aspects were gimped, the game was also counter balanced. Making personas was MUCH easier (nothing greater than tripple fusions), gaining experience and levels seemed easier, etc. Having a compendium would have been nice, but as I said, it was rebalanced.

Eventually, the whole "transport after the boss" thing just became a game design decision you got used to. In itself, it just highlighted the difference in character between Minato and Aigis. In the Journey, Minato was the centre of the world, the martyr, the smiter of enemies. It almose makes sense that he can just waltz up to a a boss and destroy it. Aigis is much more reserved, unsure of herself, her position, her view in others eyes. She is not the confident warrior Minato is, so why not sneak around enemies? Avoid combat; insead of challenging your existence, maybe find out why your here, first.

Yeah, a lot of people I know were disappointed with The Answer.

I hate the lack of the Persona Compendium, too.

Also, Metis is retarded.

Metis is the best party member.

The lack of a compendium was not missed by me. I was always fusing to get better personas. No need to be looking back.

It was a fun and quick dungeon crawl, which I believe was the intent.

What do you expect? It's an extra that they didn't have to give us at all!

Persona 3 didn't take much to level up in - the fact that there was no school life to break up the dungeon grinding made it seem like you leveled up faster.

On one hand, the lack of a Compendium could be annoying... I didn't mind and, instead, saw it as a challenge to maintain a fully functional Persona set at all times. The only screwup I made was going for Metatron instead of Sandalphon (I haven't played FES's Journey yet, so I was trying to scoop up the Personae I hadn't seen yet).

It also made me kick that habit of fusing just to get more Personae and instead level up each one I had to make the most out of their abilities.

Well, it's true that removing the Persona Compendium is... too bad... But I think The Answer really gave us the picture about what's really going on there... And about the persona which is really "gone" once we fused them, I think it made us appreciate the persona more, it's like that it's the one and only persona which made them became...unique... Since yours and mine couldn't possibly be the same with all those skills...
(It could be the same, but after being fused here and there, the chances of that to happen will be pretty slim...)

Metis is the best party member.

But her AI is retarded.

But her AI is retarded.

I had no problems. Just stick her in orgia mode at the start of most fights, and stick her in knock down against enemies weak to wind, ice, or impact.

I have her set to Knock Down and she spams Fatal End on enemies that are weak to Wind and Ice. >_>

That doesn't sound right because they never use multi-enemy attacks in Knock Down mode. You do know the commands reset to "Act Freely" at the start of each battle, right?

I completly disagree with all of you

I think it was all to increase the hardness, no deeper meaning then that but...it just was really kind of stupid, the no compendium thing mostly, though you eventually did work around everything, it was VERY irksome.

I agree about doing something more with the day repeating thing as well, some people may have avoided the Answer because of how much of a dungeon crawler it was, maybe if they'd done a little something more, more people might have opted to play it.

Personally, I really enjoyed the answer, but there was like almost no story in the middle of it, it was like, Grind, Fight Boss, See someone's Persona revelation scene, rinse and repeat, for abit.
