View Full Version : I honestly think that Namco is prejudiced against the US....

[NOTE: This is not a rant, this only just to make a point. I am not flaming, insulting, or hurting Namco in anyway shape or form. I am only speaking my mind]

Many of you have probably noticed this already, and you might also agree with me on this too.

Now to my point.
Lets look over the past 365 days. Namco has only released 5 games in the US that are actually worth playing:
- Tales of Vesperia
- Tales of Symphonia 2 (Which they kinda messed up on)
- Eternal Sonata (PS3 port)
- Afro Samurai
- Klonoa (comes out May 5th)

"Only 5 games that are worth playing? Really?"
Now that's probably what your thinking right now.
Once you think about it, its really actually kinda sad.
Since they barely pay attention to the US they just assume what we like.
I am take a look at the "Tales" fanbase. Its pretty big when it comes to America's fanbase, but they can't see that. Now your probably at this moment heavily judging me for saying all this. Your probably thinking that I should blame nintendo for not putting down a license. Well that's not the case. Cause its up to the publishing company to decide whether or not to local things. With that being said, here is a list of games from Namco that came out in Japan within the last 365 days:
- Tales of Hearts
- Fragile
- Klonoa Door to Phantomile
- Tales of Destiny DX
- Tales of Rebirth
- Taiko no Tatsujin Wii

This is a list of games that will never come over:
- Any tales game not yet released outside of Japan (That's quite allot)
- Fragile
- Idol M@ster
- Klonoa Volleyball
- Taiko no Tatsujin DS
- Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: 7tsu no Shima no Daibouken
- Brave Story

And more.
Now I know that namco has released allot of games in the US, but none of them are really all that good.
I know that Namco likes to publish their own games, and won't let anyone else publish them. But that fact that they do it to disappoint the fans of the series they produce by not supplying the demand.
Its kinda unfair......

Your thoughts?:-|

Brave Story? umm I remember XSeed Games released Brave Story: New Traveler for PSP here in the states and I know I'm still sad I can't play the other Tales games because of the language barrier at least I'm happy they brought over some Tales games. (Symphonia, Abyss, Legendia, Eternia, Destiny). I do hate the fact that I can't play Destiny R, Destiny 2, Rebirth, Tempest, Phantasia, Hearts, Innocence. I now Phantasia was released here on GBA but my god is it bad.

Why must you remind me of Tales of Hearts? Tales of Innocence, Tales of Whatever...I do hope they bring more over. I loved the games that they did, especially Tales of Symphonia (NOT 2) and Tales of Legendia. Are those Taiko games part of the Taiko Drum Master series I've heard so much about? If so, that's sad too. I really wish Namco Bandai would try harder to get these games over here.

Besides Tales, I dig thier Soul Calibur and Ridge Racer series, Tekken's another strong one but I never really cared for it.

I'm betting most of the big companies have triple the amount of games released in japan than they release here.

Wow ViolenceJack you sure love your RPGs I see you got Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Star Ocean, Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery I have all those my self minus Infinite since I didn't like the battle system at all too confusing.

I think namco hates all consumers equally. Why else would they try to sell levels and gold as dlc?

Unlockable (in-game) levels and gold? For what game? That's just stupid. I wonder how well that sells...

tales of vesperia. As to how well it sold... it didn't. I don't think a single person bought it.

Are you refering to the game, or the DLC?

IU's really just a button masher. Have you played Rogue Galaxy? System's kinda similar, but at least in RG each character has a ranged weapon as well.

I also have Eternal Sonata, Soul Calibur 4, Last Remnant, yeah I think thats all my 360 games. I have ToS2 for the Wii but I dont have a Wii cause places here only get like 2 in at a time and they sell before I get a chance to buy one >.>

The point in my earlier post was that other companies do the same thing, so you shouldnt only blame namco for not releasing all their titles in the states. Square never released Tobal No.2 over here, ASCii never released the original Kings Field over here, even when they made a PSP port of it. Its not just Namco, its all japan-based companies.

Wanted to add a note that I dont get upset over the games that arent released here, just glad that the ones that do make over here, make it over here.

Tales of Heart is the one they released with two versions, right? Judging from what Squenix did to Star Ocean 4, I'm afraid if they do ever release ToH here in the US, they'd give us the CG version instead of the anime one, even though the anime version outsold the CG one like crazy in Japan.

But, as long as we eventually get the PS3 Vesperia port I will be happy!

Namco is far from the only company to do this, for one thing. Secondly, the Tales series just isn't really that popular here. Exactly one of the Tales games has ever broken the Greatest Hits threshold, Tales of Symphonia. It was the only one to reach any significant degree of sales until Vesperia, to my knowledge. And Vesperia even doesn't have too big a fanbase outside of its target audience of RPG fans.

I know that probably the majority of people who post here are younger and may not get this, but it seems like a common trend in a lot of posts that you all seem to think that companies are prejudiced or biased against you specifically because they don't cater to your whims and localize every single niche game you want, at great cost to themselves, in an economic slump. Namco and others are businesses, first and foremost.

I highly doubt that a company like Namco, that uses Anime Movies in their Tales games, would go to the trouble of converting it all to CG when the series looks Anime-ish already.

All the movies/cut scenes in SO4 were already done in cg, all they did was replace the artwork in the Status screen, and the lil avatars in battle/item creation.

Something I highly doubt Namco, which is a whole different company would ever do to a Tales game.

I agree with Ike. Take a look at Square-Enix. I'm still waiting for Front Mission 5. D:

SMT games weren't all that popular until Persona 3/FES came into the picture and finally when P4 came things went really good for the series here in the US. Now with those games out new fans want to try them out. *Hugs his Nocturne w/ Soundtrack*

I still wished that Namco would give the Tales games a chance here releasing a few is unacceptable and there are only few fans for the games (myself included).

Release new games in a series that has, with one or two exceptions, consistently under-performed in the US, during a severe economic downturn.

That's a solid fiscal plan there.

I think you misunderstood. There were 2 versions of ToH released - CG and Anime. Anime outsold CG by a long shot. (I think) He's suggesting that if they (Namco) brought it over here, they would localize the CG edition.

By the way (and in to no one in particular), I don't really think Namco is actually prejudiced against America. I think they are trying to make a good profit and NOT go bankrupt, which is a GOOD thing because the longer they exist, the more games they localize, no?

You can buy level ups and Gald as DLC in Tales Of Vesperia.

The level ups on Xbox Live are really useful when you're playing Unknown Mode, though, cause on Unknown Mode you have to grind a lot just to survive later on in the game.

Yeah, the DLC I don't really have a qualm with. It's one of those desperation things where if you get really, really stuck you have a way out. If they didn't charge for it, there would be no incentive not to use it. Ten free levels? Sure! But that kind of ruins the spirit of the game, doesn't it?

Zacewing

Yeah, I didn't use the DLC until my 2nd playthrough cause I wanted to play Unknown Mode (I've only used one Level +5 item, too).

But yeah, I really wish the Tales series was more popular over here.

But Namco Bandai Japan said they were happy with Vesperia's sales overseas and that they felt this was their chance to make the series go worldwide. I'm expecting Radiant Mythology 2 to get a US announcement. I'm not quite sure about Hearts, though.
