COMMANDO THROWS PIPE AT ATLUS, DEMANDS THAT THEY "LET OFF SOME
STEAM...BOT CHRONICLES™ BATTLE TOURNAMENT FOR PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) SYSTEM"
"You said you were going to release it last!"
"I lied."

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 9, 2009 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc., who repeatedly asked the gaming press to not disturb its friend because he was "dead tired," today announced that it has acquired the North American publishing rights for Steambot Chronicles™ Battle Tournament for PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, an action game overflowing with intense mech customization, an open-world mission structure, and fast-paced arena style combat. Did we mention you spend most of the game making the earth beneath your hulking metal feet tremble as you impose your will using your awesomely impressive, customized Trotmobile of destruction? Yes, that's right, this game is all about metal-on-metal action!

Steambot Chronicles Battle Tournament opens its valves this summer.

###

About Steambot Chronicles Battle Tournament
A young Trot driver comes to Orion City with one dream in mind: to win the prestigious Orion City Trotmobile gladiator tournament. However, you'll quickly learn that it takes more than pluck and optimism to earn victory in the coliseum. With the help of a spirited mechanic named Venus, you'll have to take on a series of jobs to earn the money and fame required to make a name for yourself about town as a skilled Trotmobile operator. When a series of bandit attacks begins to affect the city's economy and distress the citizens, who will have the mettle and the metal to put a stop to it?

Key Features
You control your adventure -- Mission-based gameplay puts you in the driver's seat: you choose what you do and say. Take on missions ranging from cross-town delivery to mining in a canyon to defeating bandits. The money and fame points earned can be used to upgrade your Trotmobile and enter arena battles.
Complete freedom to build -- The cardinal rule of Trotmobile design is that there is no ideal design. Instead, there are tons of customization options, letting you upgrade your arms, legs, heads, bodies, and more, each changing the nature of how you battle! Personalize your vehicle with color and emblem to make it distinctively yours.
Four-player competition mode -- Clash with your friends' Trotmobiles in 4 player ad hoc multiplayer! Set each player against the others battle royale style, or pair up for tag team action.
One cartridge, four players -- Only one UMD disc? You can still compete! Activate "game sharing" to enter multiplayer mode with standard Trotmobiles, or use multiple UMDs to have access to your customized battle vehicles!

Steambot Chronicles: Battle Tournament has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

This reminds me that I still have to pick up Blokus Portable: Steambot Championship; it's kinda related.

This sounds pretty cool, but the only mech action game I've played was ZOE: The 2nd Runner. How does this compare?

You mean "ZOTE: The 2nd Runner"? (You can't put "of" in the acronym if you don't also include "the". I don't care what Konami says.)

Anyway, this game is way funnier than ZOTE.

Awesome!
I just asked this question a few months ago and I'm glad they're doing it now. I loved the PS2 Steambot and I've dabbled in the Japanese version of this game and I definitely can't wait.

but...but...Konami said it!

Either way, I look forwards it. SBTC for the PSP system sounds pretty decent!

I'll pick it up day one, especially since I loved the first one. I doubt it, but is there any music playing in this title? I actually enjoyed the random music playing, but I think that's more of a Vanilla-specific thing.

By the way, whatever happened to the PS3 Steambot game that Irem showed a few years ago?

They were refering to the music [guitar hero like] minigames, not the BGM. Honest mistake. :D

My question is: will it offer the same freedom as the PS2 ver.? Because 'Battle Tournament' doesn't inspire me at all. If it's anything like what 'Pokémon Battle Revolution' was to the fully fledged series then I'm going to pass.

PS: Where is Steambot Chronicles 2 by the way?

Awesome, thank you Atlus! I was the one who started the thread for this in Game Suggestions, so this is really a dream come true. Needless to say, a day 1 purchase.

The reason I joined the forums in the first place was because I read in the back of the original Steambot Chronicles manual that Atlus did Steambot Chronicles because the fans wanted it. And apparently that was no lie since I'm seeing the exact same service with my own eyes.

You guys are the best. Here's hoping for Steambot Chronicles 2 too, if they ever finish making it over there.

It still has free roaming exploration, but due to it being a portable game the emphasis is placed on battling. The adventure is mainly concerned with doing quests to obtain parts, and, of course, competing in tournaments. It's still got that style we know and love, it's just more focused on battling now. Think more colluseum than battle revolution.

ps: It's still in development, last I checked. This is Irem's new main franchise, so don't expect to see the sequel get cancelled. Once the game is released in japan atlus will hopefully pick it up.

Ha! That's Awesome. I was the last person to post on that thread. I actually enjoyed reading the manual to. It was like a behind-the-scenes addition to the production of the game. Best video game manual ever! I hope they do the same with the PS3 Steambot game. I'm really looking foward to that one, considering the PS3 is starving for more RPGs.

"If you get hungry, too, turn the game off and make yourself a sandwhich."

from the little jokes like that to the detailed history of the trotmobile to the letter to the fans at the back, this will go down in history as the greatest english game manual ever written. (a close second overall to the original no more heroes manual)

Yep...I'm surprised Atlus still hasn't done a PS3 title yet (far as I know they didnt). Don't know what the hold up is.

I wonder, can we expect there to be a story to go along with these battles and missions? Or is it going to be more like an arena type game, just upgrade and battle until you're the best?
And my favorite line from SC: "Okay, fine, take her. Just please, don't hurt ME!" or something along those lines, when talking to the bandit at the beginning of the game. Hilarious.

*EDIT* Oops, I missed a paragraph in the first post somehow. There is at least a bit of a story. Looking forward to this one, I loved SC.

As Much as I loved the original Steambot Chronicles. I'm going to pass on this title and save my money for Steambot Chronicles 2 on PS3.

Sure, I know not supporting the series in every way doesn't help get a title localized. But, I'm unemployed and need to keep my money safe and sound.

Anyways, The TGS 07 trailer sold me instantly after I saw the massive improvement over the PS2 version shown a year before.

I suggest calling them up every two hours just to make sure.

His career rests on this game? Hmm...who could it be? Everyone in the original game was so talented. If I had to guess, it would have to be Tomm Hulett...not to say he's not talented. Don't get me wrong, but according to the internet movie database he played "The Gate of Eternity" in Stella Deus. That was the only role that I could find with him voicing in. So I concluded, that out of the range of talent around the game, it would make the most sense to be him. Not to worry though, because I preordered the game months ago and it will arrive in the mail soon.

Do you guys have any insight as to how many copies you've shipped? I tried to put a reserve down early last week and the GS employee wasn't able to find it in the system. So I've been calling around today (Thurs) and apparently no stores in Washington or Oregon (I'm talking all of the stores in those two states) have any copies and the employee I talked to was unsure if they were ever going to get copies.
