I hate Eminem but whenever I see a thread like this I can't help but think:

Now this looks like a job for me
So everybody, just follow me
Cause we need a little, controversy
Cause it feels so empty, without me
I said this looks like a job for me
So everybody, just follow me
Cause we need a little, controversy
Cause it feels so empty, without me

I can think of a few, but they were side-characters/enemies, or they weren't originally meant to be black.

People besides white peoples and Japanese peoples play games like persona and stuff.

Regarding the Shin Megami Tensei series, they are developed in Japan for a Japanese audience and take place in Japan, so most of the characters are Japanese. However, the art style often makes asian people appear white.

That being said, other Atlus games take place in less specific settings and do contain black people. For example, Trauma Center, Snowboard Kids, and Etrian Odyssey all contain black characters. Even some of the demons in the SMT series are black.

Most other games Atlus USA publishes were developed by other companies and they have no control over the character designs.

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- APRIL 7, 2009 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today announced that in response to eloquent criticism from a single anonymous gamer who desperately wishes everyone to know she is a GrL GmR (though chances of this being true are slim to nil: this is the internet, PEOPLE), they have struck a deal with Atlus R&D1 to include an new African-American character exclusively for the upcoming USA version of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor.

This young lady is named Titorella, a transfer student from Atlanta, GA caught in this unfortunate demon invasion that has Tokyo in lockdown. Her role in the game will be to compete with Yuzu in teasing as much breast cleavage as possible in order to win the heart of the nameless protagonist. Her special attack is the underboob (also known as Australian cleavage) as demonstrated in the above screenshot. But in recent SMT tradition, the hero is to be a total wimp in front of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and will totally deny and reject every single one of their voluptuous attempts at getting him in bed with both of them.

"This is an opportunity to show the world we care about what people say about us on message boards, creepy-crawly basement creatures they may be." says Abracadabram Jabracadarri, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus. "Our next culturally-conscious move will be a specially localized version of Brandish PSP exclusive to the Canadian market, with a hockey-stick-swinging, igloo-dwelling, warm-beer-swilling lumberjack replacing the tired old amnesic/narcissistic Japanese hero cliché. We plan to include unlockable berets, poutine and wine bottles for the now-required French conversion (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,512781,00.html)."

The now politically-correct Devil Survivor manifests at retailers on June 23, 2009 with an MSRP of $29.99.

You do realize that while Atlus does develop some games they are foremost a publisher and translator for imported games? If you want games with different characters then submit them to the DEVELOPERS of the games you like to play and see what they say.

Lol... regardless though, it is a bit strange to say that, especially considering that Atlus USA doesn't actually make the games and all. Also, it's not like they have anything against anyone. And like the others have said, a lot of Atlus games do have a large variety of different humans in them. ;)

Mark in the original version of Persona one was white (or Japanese) so I'm not sure if the ATLUS version will have him in his original form or how the US changed him.
Personally I'd like his US form.

I'm wishing that that girl in the pic with the chest in DS is a joke, since that is pretty insulting, in my opinion.
Scary, really.

Yes, its a joke. Its a character from an anime.

It would be nice to have variety, but I'm fine either way. Its the personalities and story that gets to me most.
