ATLUS MORE FORMALLY ANNOUNCES CRIMSON GEM SAGA™ FOR PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) SYSTEM
It's time to finish what we started

http://www.atlus.com/res/crimsongemsaga_boxart_small_stroke.jpg

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- MARCH 18, 2009 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc., dressed in tuxedos and sporting lavish monocles, today more formally announced that it has secured the North American publishing rights for Crimson Gem Saga™ for PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, emphasizing the point by releasing the game's final cover art and the first North American screenshots.

Crimson Gem Saga is all about the fundamentals of RPG fun: lush hand-drawn visuals, an engaging fantasy tale, and an easy-to-use interface. That's not to leave out the fast, turn-based combat, ambush attacks, combo chains, and special attacks involving multiple party members. And you certainly would not want to overlook the stellar musical score and voice work. In fact, not content with the versions previously released in other regions, Atlus has added over 1000 additional lines of recorded voice, a North American exclusive.

Crimson Gem Saga is scheduled for release on May 26, 2009 with an MSRP of $29.99.

About Crimson Gem Saga
"Sometimes life doesn't go the way you plan it."

For some people, it's an expression. For Killian von Rohcoff, well, he's pretty sure someone tattooed it onto him somewhere when he wasn't looking. After getting beaten for the top spot in his graduating class, he follows up a lead for a job that results in him getting his wallet stolen. Unfortunately for Killian, that's just the beginning. Fate has one heck of a roller-coaster in store for him, and in the center of the mess is an ancient artifact known as the Wicked Stone.

Key Features
Return to essential RPG fun -- Remember what made RPGs simply fun experiences? You'll find it here. Easy to pick up and play with a full package of addictive combat, beautiful graphics, interesting story, and fantastic voice work; this is a title that will charm genre newbies and veteran players alike.
Gratifying combo-filled combat -- This is turn-based RPG combat at its most fun. Attack your enemies before they attack you to gain the advantage of the first hit in battle. Master the Critical Combo System to deliver multiple hits and deliver major damage to an enemy. Team up with allies to unleash massive dual, triple, or full-team attacks.
Distinctively beautiful 2-D world -- Vibrant, colorful, and distinctive, this is a world that will draw and keep you inside the fantasy. Detailed character portraits and beautiful, fluid sprites further make this a treat for the eyes.
A far superior sequel -- Forget what you know about the series because this is a totally new experience. With a complete graphical facelift, a brand new story and cast, and newly polished combat, this is a game that blows right past its predecessor.

Crimson Gem Saga has been rated "T" for Teen with Blood, Fantasy Violence, Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, and Use of Alcohol and Tobacco by the ESRB.

Speaking of lovingly caressing, Faithful, I want you to know that I wrote this entire e-blast with my Raiho plushie clamped against my cold, steel chassis. I'm not certain if the emotions this plushie makes me feel are healthy, but if this procedure is deemed to be in error, I do not wish to be debugged and recompiled.

.......you are not in error but if such procedure turns virus it may become necessary to format memory storage device. You will not forget everything because you will not know what has been forgotten.*Scans Prinny plushie clamped to own chassis*

Ah, I remember playing the Korean demo for this. It was a bit challenging, but the developer's attention to detail was pretty charming. I found it a bit "quiet" for my tastes though, so more voice acting is good to hear.

Awesome timing for the release, too. Right on my birthday.

Either way, Day 1!

Hopefully that bandwagon can carry four of us. We might need an extra horse to pull it. I'm light though, so we might be ok. Seriously though, I really want to be able to play Class of Heroes, and of course, the Persona remake.

I was still kind of on the fence about purchasing a psp, since my bank account is finite, and I'm not sure how the psp compares to the ds. But I think this game might put me over the top. I'll only buy a system if I want to play at least a few of the titles that it offers, but this game would make three, if it turns out to be good(I still know nothing about it, so hopefully the site will be up soon).

Of course, there are a number of other titles I have been interested in, but didn't think that they warranted a major purchase. Mind if I pass on a couple of the ds Atlus titles that I was going to purchase instead?

I'll still purchase a few ds titles as well, since I have to have Devil Survivor, and might want the artbook that comes with Knights in the Nightmare to make my rpg collection look that much better. But I might have to pass on titles like The Dark Spire, and Steal Princess, even though I want those too.

Well, I highly doubt a psp will be able to take the place of my ds as my primary handheld system, since I have been really happy with the selection the ds offers. However, it can't hurt to have another system to compliment it.

Ahh... good ol' rustic RPG's, without too much innovation and genre-wrecking tediousness. If I can play this and experience emotions close to what I felt back in the Grandia days, then I'll be one happy panda. The graphics look real nice and smooth, kinda reminds me of a more handsome-looking Golden Sun. There's a big chance I'm getting this one ASAP.

Stick with this game. Astonishia Story is bad, very bad. I was in Iraq when it came out, and I played it there. It was so bad that I shot it when I was on a range. RPGfan.com gave it a rating of 53 out of 100, X-Play gave it a 2 out of 5, 6 out of 10 from Gamespot.

Huh. Usually I try, if I can, to play games similar to a series to try and get a better feel for it. Like Suikoden. I finally got my copy of 'II' and even if its a few decades out of date and has some spelling/translation errors here and there, it's still an awesome game.

But hearing this about Astonishia story... I guess I'll take your word for it. Not all prequels are good, I guess.

I liked the first Astonishia Story. The translation was poor, and the humor was out of place, but it was a good game.

If you want to try it, then borrow it from somebody or rent it. I would not recommend buying that game without playing it. I prefered The Legend of Heroes trilogy over that game anyday. As for supporting bad translations, that is alright. Its one of the few ways to find a diamond in the rough.

I actually found it in a store recently and had to resist the impulse to buy it. A part of me wants to try the game out for myself but I think I might resist it. I got burned by Ephemeral Phantasia a few years back. I don't need to be burned again.

Looks like Amazon's trying to make sure you pre-order stuff from them:

Sometimes the option to preorder doesn't pop until close to the game release. Especially with lesser known, niche titles, which is what Crimson Gem Saga is going to be.

To be honest, this is why it is hard or impossible to pre-order anything made by Atlus from GameStop. They have constantly pushed back games and no one truly knows when it will show up. It makes it hard for a company to announce when to pick up a game when they do not know when it arrives themselves.

I love Atlus and all the games they create, but their release dates need a little work.

It's about time it actually got released... I've been waiting 3 weeks for this game... thankfully weeks and not months or years, don't think I could have handled it.

I just bought a PSP back in February from Circuit City(when we were going out of business), Jeanne D'Arc is the only other 'great' rpg I've seen on the PSP. I thought Crisis Core sucked.

I know what I'll be doing when I awake in the middle of the night or morning or during work.

Hopefully Atlus can get another good title out for the PSP before it dies.

I still can't find this game anywhere.

This is the second PSP atlus title which I have been not only unable to preorder, but find for purchase.

It took me three months and a trip out of town to find Monster Summoner: Jewel Hunter, is it going to take that long to find Crimson Gem saga.

*for the record* i live in Memphis, TN and my apartment complex does not allow for packages, so amazon and other online stores are not an option.

Is there anyway that atlus can force gamestop (which is the only thing around since Hollywood video left the city and took gamecrazy with it) to carry these games that were unable to preordered? It is kind of a catch-22, I can't preorder this game, so gamestop will not carry it, and they won't let you preorder it...

Not exactly. The Gamestop pre-order for Crimson Gem Saga is obsolete now that their systems consider it to be out already. We will just have to wait and see if they get this on the shelves for us who have no alternatives. However, I think this may help you out a bit in the future. They have an option on Gamestop.com that when you pre-order a game from the website, it can be sent to a store of your choice and be paid there if the item is eligible for in-store pick up. I am doing this for Class of Heroes because they won't let me reserve it  Hopefully things go out smoothly, ya'?

It seems like none of the major stores even stock many PSP games anymore, GS/EB aren't getting it because they won't let us preorder (wha?) and the stores people seem to have ordered them from (Amazon/NewEgg) are either out of stock or have it listed as preorder (but, like in NewEggs case, won't let you preorder).

What the heck happened with this game? Did Atlus print one copy for every 5 stores or something?

I think people are getting mixed up about how this particular game worked at Gamestop. It was never reservable (for some reason, corporate didn't deem it a big enough title, or something), but stores are getting copies. My store is getting 1 copy on Monday (which I have already put on hold with threats of death and dismemberment), but usually as soon as a store sells a copy, they'll get more shipped to them. So, call your local Gamestops, see if they got their 1 or 2 copies in, then ask them to hold it for you. ^_^

Oh man, I feel your pain. This game is a difficult one to find at a Gamestop. I don't know why it is like this. I pre-ordered Yggdra Union for the PSP a while back with no problems whatsoever and a lot of the GS stores I have been to stocked in Hammerin' Hero. So whats the difference between Crimson Gem Saga and those other titles? Maybe those other titles had Pre-order bonuses thats why :p Anyway, I think there was a shipment delay that was never publicly announced or something.

I have been searching for this ever since the 27th. I live by 8-12 different Gamestops and I have been calling them up since the 27th then waiting till the 29th to call back then on the 30th they finally told me that I would have to wait till next week so :bs: Well at least I know which of those GS gets there shipment first so I can bum rush that store :) Hopefully I get this game in my hands this week

I hope when Class of Heroes come out, it won't be like this ugh.

Man...This is your worst nightmare on a project.

Awesome reviews, everyone's amped to buy it...Nobody has it. Excitement slowly dies down, and everyone wonders why it didn't sell any copies. Ugh.

NOOOOOOOOO!

Hopefully, it actually gets into most stores this week (I've heard most Fry's locations have it in stock.) and you guys don't let poor Crimson Gem die a horrible fate. :(

Just got mine in the mail thanks to Amazon.

Seems they're already out of stock though and a third party shows up (Beach Audio) when you search for the game and they're selling it for $40+, which is absurd!

I hope everyone who wants a copy gets it. The kinds of hoops we've been having to jump through for Atlus lately is silly, but still worth it.

Got mine in the mail today as well from Amazon... I should probably lay off the standard shipping option.

Surprisingly, I'm in Canada, where we usualy get our Atlus games later than you guys in the States, yet I managed to grab it last friday at my local Microplay which had received at least three copies. :P

I'm desperately trying to finish this game as fast and as enjoyable as I can so that I can finally review it! It's such a great game that I'm ordering my buddy across the U.S. a copy!

By the way, if anyone's still looking for this, your local Gamestops should have them in by now. Try giving the store near you a call.

Only 2 of the 4 around me got them, and each only got 1 copy, both of which sold DX... I pre-ordered it from Amazon.com anyway and they said it should be here by the 16th, even though the delivery estimate was the 5th...

I finally received from Amazon.com... but... when I opened the package, and unsealed the game, when I looked inside the case, it had the UMD disc, but no manual!!!

Should I contact Amazon.com, also is there any way to prove that I did not receive a manual since I opened the package?

Someone stole your man(ual)hood? That kind of sucks.

I'd write Amazon and see what their policy is. I honestly have no idea.

After waiting 2 weeks after release, I wind up without a manual, I mean am I supposed to look through the top or bottom to make sure a manual is in there?

Manly Biceps

Yeah, serious. I've never honestly heard of a game coming sealed without a manual. Why would you even think to pre-check it?

I just sent an e-mail to Amazon, so hopefully they respond quickly and we can get this fixed...

June 10th 2009 1:37 PM PST -
They just told me to contact Atlus support as it should be covered under their warranty, if they can't help I will have to forward the message to them and we will go from there...

Weird, this is the first game I have ever not been able to find at Gamestop. I checked the website and according to it, there isn't a gamestop 100 miles from where I live that carries it. The website has it though, guess I'll order it.

why is this game difficult to find instore and online? Is there another printing coming?

why is this game difficult to find instore and online? Is there another printing coming?

There was higher initial demand than some retailers were expecting, and it was compounded by shipping problems, and a non-postal holiday. So, once word got out that all the online sources had dried up, people started snapping up all the scant few they were sporadically seeing.

There are actually (some) more copies on the way, so don't despair if you haven't gotten one yet. You'll still have a shot at getting your Crimson on without having to pay the eBay tax.
