Surprised there hasn't been a topic about this already. I haven't seen a definitive answer yet so, I'm pretty curious.

Atlus hasn't announced it yet.

I know. I'm hoping this topic will incite them to make one. :P

It's handled just like the Japanese version: you unlock them with the Yggdra Union GBA cart.

Wowzah! Now that was timely!

And it was exactly the answer I expected...

Why would you expect anything different?

Nice avatar!

Announcing the collectors edition with a Yggdra Union cart for those of us that didn't have a GBA back in the day and bought the game on psp? :)

The Japanese did it!

The Japanese also invented the six day underwear. The Western world isn't ready for everything that happens over there.

I suspect that the availability of new copies for under $30 on Amazon gives Atlus little incentive to produce additional copies. If you don't want to buy it, you can probably borrow a copy somewhere. Many game stores will let you try a used game in your DS before purchase.

You PSPers already got the bonus!

@dungeon_man: Trueness about cheap copies still easy to find. Furthermore, I'm not sure Nintendo still lets anyone "press" GBA games anymore. I'm assuming they're still in charge of manufacturing the carts in Mexico, as they were in the SNES/N64 days.

Well, I was thinking YUGBA was pretty rare these days, but apparently not! Thanks for answering, though, Inz!

What are the bonus contents you get with YU gba cartridge inserted?
I only saw screenshot of having Yggdra as your instructor and Pamela as a guest unit.

$30 is still somewhat high as I already have a psp one.
Is it worth buying the gba version?

btw does this bonus thing works with any version of YU? (US/JP)

Those are the bonuses, the JP KitN needs the JP Yggdra GBA to get them, and you already have Pamela in YU PSP! :o

Now, here's a question, on the other hand: Which is worth it more, whatever bonuses where added to the PSP version over GBA, or the GBA bonuses in KITN? Feel free to factor in the fact that the PSP version is twice the cost of the GBA version, assuming one is willing to buy used...

four_black_hearts
03-19-2009, 01:33 PM
Well, the PSP version has (almost) fully voiced dual languages, redrawn sprites and remastered audio, new missions and difficulty settings, and new characters (including the very same Mystic Witch Pamela who appears in KitN via the GBA version, and the immensely more useful Scythe user Mistel)! I say own both, but if you have to choose...

Get the far superior version, whichever that one is

Hmm... trying to jog my memory. Was Pamela the witch that you find sleeping in the forest at noon with the hat?

theshim

Yep. And sleeping the second time with the Demon Tail. Or you could avoid her the first time and get her broom, which was nice, but meant you had to fight her.

Now I need a copy of the GBA game... and it's going for 52$ on Ebay in it's unopened box. o_o

Well, it is an Atlus game with no small amount of hype, and you're something like two and a half years late to the party...

Just be glad the price hasn't skyrocketed like the older SMT titles!

I just won one for $16.77. I'm set.

So wait, they added 2 new charachters to YU PSP? Thought it was just Pamela. Oh well, I have the original (and no one on here's getting it!).

YU was one of my fav games, I'm so happy I can put it to good use again.

Woah. Bummer.

I chanced upon these forums, while looking to see if there was an official strategy guide for Knights in the Nightmare, and this is the first I'm hearing about this.

I traded in my DS Lite for a DSi the same day I preordered Knights in the Nightmare. I figured I wouldn't miss the GBA slot much since I only own one GBA game. Ironically, it happens to be Yggdra Union, which was recommended to me when I was purchasing Etrian Odyssey. I had already beaten the game, and although the gameplay and story were very enjoyable, remembering the frustration of acquiring all the items in the game, I hadn't planned on ever touching the thing again.

Touche, Nintendo...

I"m a bit confused about the bonus content.

Here's what it says in the Art Book:
If you insert "Yggdra Union" into the GBA slot and "Knights of the Nightmare" into the DS card slot, Yggdra will appear instead of Maria to give you tips in the tutorial section of the game. Futhermore, you will discover Pamela hidden randomly between missions. If you are those who posses a GBA version of "Yggdra Union," you can access this special content.

Do I merely have to start a new game with the GBA cart inserted to unlock the content or does the cart need to be constantly plugged in while playing the game.

I'm asking because as stated in my previous post, I own a DSi which has no GBA slot. However, the people at my local gamestop were kind enough to give me permission to use one of their DSLites in store if I ever wanted to unlock any bonus content. Of course, if the GBA cart had to be plugged in for the entireity of the play through, I'm out of luck, because I have no plans on playing the entire game in the store. Does anyone have the answer to this?

I have no official answer, but I've played other games with bonus content that is unlocked in a similar fashion and once the bonus content is unlocked, it is unlocked.

Wow that much for the GBA ver.? I found it in a Gamestop near me for $12.99 no joke. :S I also have the PSP ver cuz I got it as a gift haha.

If it's like the Endless Frontier, you just have to have the game in your GBA slot and it will automatically unlock and stay that way after you save your game.

No dice I'm afraid. Yggdra only appears while YU is inserted, and so does Pamela.

Hrm... I was planning on buying the PSP version, due to my extreme dislike of down-grading in games(e.g. playing a GBA game on my DS Lite), but these extras are making me reconsider... Darnit! I guess I'll just go with the PSP versions of Yggdra and Riviera, the bigger screens and expanded content seems to beat out the KitN extras...

Sorry 'bout this, but...
Off-Topic:
KitN is entirely touch-screen controlled, right? 'Cuz my DSi's R trigger seems to be going out ALREADY, and my DS Lite's L trigger is out entirely... Darn Nintendo and their hand-held triggers...

Eh... Not entirely. The face buttons initiate the pause functions and the character interactions. L and R do get used, and if you never use them, you're either pretty hosed or a master dodger.

Well, I have the exact same issue with my DS Lite! The shoulder buttons are out. They work occasionally, but far from reliable. My original DS Phat, on the other hand, works perfectly... that one was built to last!

Really? I've had my DS for awhile but I don't have that problem with my Lite but it's probably different for everyone.

So the bonuses only stay on while the game is in the slot? Eh, I don't mind but I hope the game doesn't get caught somewhere, like a table or caught in my pocket, and fall and die TT____TT

@Onion: Yeah, I have it now, so, I kinda know... But thanks anyway... And, I have barely used the "hide" thing much yet, I just haven't worked up the skill for more advanced stuff... I'm-a gettin thar though!

Also, I had to send in my Lite TWICE, each time it came back, it lasted about a couple months then went out again, this last time the DSi was almost out, so I figured I wouldn't take the time to send it in again, and instead just buy the new system.

Anyway, does anyone know if it's possible to use Action Replay to trigger the Yggdra Union specials?

eideline
06-08-2009, 03:04 AM
I don't know how Action Replay works exactly, but I don't think it'd be possible to trick the system into thinking that yggdra union is connected when it isn't. However if its like most games and you're only interested in Pamela, you could probably use it to change one of your current knights into her, though I can only imagine the bugs that would come with that.
