Bummer on no english voices, though not surprising or game-breaking either.

That'll make the japanese voice fans happy I guess. Not at all surprised about them not translating in-battle quotes.

Who cares, though. We get Kaguya cleavage. :p

StriderTuna

I think that was a given (the cleavage) from the moment I read the Atlus faithful thing on this game.... and all the inuendos made in it.

It would have been nice to hear Bridget Hoffman reprise her role, but I'm just as happy about having the J-voices too :D

I wish they would have included English voices too, please Atlus say it isn't so.

Alright the first vid. But I don't think that this alone would tell us whether or not that it has English voices or not. This just shows us that it will keep the original voices in it. I find it strange that after battle speeches aren’t subbed, maybe this tells us that it a dub is there but no sub for the Japanese’s voices.

Please Atlus, I want to hear U.S actors.

The Japanese VA is pretty good, so I'm okay with them staying in.

Lack of subtitles, now that's just silly.

I suppose. Though I wish there was an option for english voices as well.

I do agree who knows on that matter.... we can only wait until We get the final product.

From what I can tell in videos, subtitles weren't there in the japanese version. I honestly don't see why they'd be added, since I haven't seen it done before in other japanese voiced games.

Personally, it'd be far too distracting from juggling whatever unfortunate foe I happen to be pwning at the moment. Besides, there are far better things to look at. :p

We're still a bit less than a couple months out, though, so it's still anyone's guess.

You do have a point on the fans not complaining about the voices, besides I would like to see this dubbed because I want to see how the voices would handle all the innuendo that is in the game. We have already seen them keep most of the game intact and speaking of Kaguya cleavage, I am still wondering if they will keep the "bounce".

Exactly my point, it's too soon to say if it has English voices or not.

Luminous Arc 2's first trailer was in Japanese with English text and we all know it ended up with English so I won't believe this is how this game will stay.

I hope not.

The main thing isn't in battle but before or after it; there's some funny stuff said before or after battles.

Another good point; I want to know of the lulz that will be in the before/after quote.

Same here. It's just a lot more fun when I don't have to stop and wonder what they said.

Even though I'm taking Japanese classes, I prefer my games to be in English. But I think that Japanese voice acting worked well in Izuna, and my honest opinion is that it wouldn't be the same any other way. However, if parts of the dialog aren't at least subbed, then we'll be missing some of it.

I'm kind of interested in this game, even though this would be my first game in this series. If I do end up getting it, I'm hoping to get the full experience. I am sure that Atlus will do what they think is best, in order to provide us with the best experience possible. However, if they decide to keep the original dialogue, then I hope they add more subtitles.

:agree:
Totally agree with you're post, if it just has Japanese voices then I'm fine with it but the dialogue needs to be subbed. But like I said before it's too early to say other wise. I hope there is a dubbed because it looks like they might not sub the voices. A good example of the dual voice in a DS game is Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. You could easily switch between English and Japanese Voices in the middle of the game, so it is possible to have both English and Japanese VA’s in a DS game.

Also since you said that this is you’re first experience of the OG series than I must let you know that even thought it is an entreating game, this is a side story or spin-off to an great series which all of us want to see come over here right after this game. Here is a preview of the STRPG.

Sweet. That game looks epic. Thanks for the link. I actually understood a bit of what was being said. The scene I understood the most, or at least the one I remember the most was the one with ichi ban, or number one(leader?): "Number one here(or something along those lines)" "Number one....(something)...please." I think she asked for number one's help. Like I said in brackets, the term ichi ban might also mean "team leader", or something along those lines.

I might have known some of what she said in between too, but my Japanese mind works pretty slow, and takes some time to warm up. Plus Japanese is spoken pretty fast, so I tend to miss some stuff on occasion. Or maybe I don't know what was said, but she did say it quite quickly, and I'm 99% sure that she was asking for his help, given the context.

As you can tell, I still have a long way to go before I can enjoy games in Japanese, and even longer until I'm able to read it all(there was a lot of kanji in that video), but I'm still just a beginner. This is only my second semester taking this course, but I find it interesting that I can use my education in my spare time.

I've read that they have small conversations after the battle which conversations which refers a lot to jokes/innuendoes/references to other games/alike.
Will Atlus USA possibly provide translations for these?

Tatsuya Suou
03-29-2009, 12:03 PM
I do hope so since a dub seems unlikely and if that "reference to other games" is what the in battle voices are then I see as to why atlus would have a hard time with it. I think it would be a good idea if they were to give a translation note in the booklet of the game.

I suggest you hear Digital Devil Saga and Odin Sphere for a higher quality dub.

Meh, better than not getting the game at all. It's not as if crossover titles usually see the light of day in the US, unfortunately. (It's amazing we'll get Cross Edge.)

Thing is DDS and Odin Sphere were PS2 games, not DS ones.... seems Atlus doesn't have much budget for DS games.

Which is why I will let it slide for having Japanese only in this game to save for a rushed dub. I hope that if OG/OGG gets a dub once announced will get a high quality one.

I really can't say anything more on this subject while trying to be nice about it. This game has japanese voices in it. Fine. Now let's just enjoy the damn game.

I'm really getting sick of this anti-dub dogma floating around lately.

Tatsuya Suou

It dose seem that way these days that fans are dreading a dub in there game regardless if it has dual language or not. Most feel that just because a few games that are up to date have sub par English voices in it that all games with dubs will turn out that way.

I have seen the thread in that talks about this subject in detail and have seen some of you're post. You feel strongly on that a game should have a dub for many reasons. I feel as long as it is dong right then it shouldn't be a problem. I don’t know if I would post my opinion on that thread since I am unbiased to English/Japanese voices and I don’t want to put fuel to the fire.

Also here are GT videos of the game. They are mostly from the launch site and can be downloaded. (I loled at the vid descriptions/discussions)

So who has this game yet? Did they leave the Japanese voices intact?

JP voices intact, yep. Now all I need is a translation so I at least know what they are saying.

Thank god they left the Japanese track alone. English battle quotes are the worst part of dubs. A phrase may sound cool in its original language, but more often then not, it'll sound completely gay when translated to another language.
