I think that if it's near, check it out. If not, buy Used/New from a user on Amazon. If it's Used, make SURE it has "includes original box/instructions" CLEARLY before buying.

Got my copy on Amazon. Just get the reprint versions as they're widely available unless you really want that box that holds both games and the soundtrack.

Most stores are likely to be slim on any past copies of any SMT spinoff/installment that isn't Persona 3 FES or Persona 4. Even those you might have trouble with as most stores are slimming down thier PS2 sections and ordering fewer PS2 games. Mainstream stores are even less likely to have them as places like Best Buy and Walmart don't stock heavy on anything they'd consider niche.
I got my copy of DDS via Amazon, DDS2 was a "Gamestop Special" (meaning no box or instructions, but I was planning to use a double DVD PS2 case anyway). As much as I abhor the Gamestop Special, I wasn't paying what was being asked for DDS2 elsewhere.
Overall ordering rare PS2 games online is the better way to get them. Gamestop did have a copy of Devil Summoner for PS2 (again, the Gamestop Special) for $9.99, but in this case I'll just hold out for something to show on Amazon. This is what I get for selling my previous copies in a crisis, but oh well, I'm not selling them again no matter what.

O___o Been working for Gamestop for over two years, and I've NEVER heard of GameStop Specials, whatever those are...
If you're talking about lower prices, they aren't specials, it's just how we sell our games. We try to be as cheap as possible, when we can be.
After all, unlike other places, we are the specifically for games.

Sometimes, in a rare occasion, the new games are marked the same price as the used games. It's dumb, I know, but I've seen quite a few ps2 games like this, and Devil Summoner is one of them. I have also seen games that are cheaper new than they are used. (For example, Tales of the Abyss at my store used was 29.99. I went to another store that had a brand new copy for 19.99 ).
And I think Foobar meant when he says "Gamestop special" are those games that are traded in without cases and we have to print our own cover art for the game. (He did put what he meant in parentheses...sorry if I cannot spell).
But yeah, I personally would never buy a SMT game without the original packaging.

Don't take me the wrong way, I'm not hating on the employees/managers for the "Gamestop Special" - I just blame those way higher up for setting the bar so low on how games are traded in. I mean, I still bought DDS2 that way because I had planned to compile them into one case anyway (if you can't find a double DVD case, just find a copy of DMC2, discard the game and use that, lol). That and I wasn't paying what people were asking for it new on Amazon.
I have some good friends that work at Gamestop, I know their skin probably crawls about the generic boxing as much as it does mine. GS probably does it that way since people selling online already get away with that low standard and still profit well. I'm amazed people would pay $30 on Amazon for any game without box or instructions, yet some will do it because they want it that much.
I also find it funny any time I go hunting for a copy of an SMT game at Gamestop, that each clerk I ask has a nerdgasm in the process. Always nice to find another fan of the series, though.

I have a hard time finding any of the SMT games in a local store. Recently, the GameStop across the state border had Persona 3: FES, Persona 4, and Nocturne for sale. No one around here is a fan like I am, though.
Hope you are able to get DDS at a decent price. I still need to pick up copies of DDS and DDS 2 to play myself. I might break bad and get the reprint of DDS off Amazon if there are no differences between it and the original copy. Minus the soundtrack, of course.

Why don't you just give him your money or buy a pre-paid credit card?
(Offtopic: Lol, DDS goes new for over 40 dollars now...Considering the re-print was 40, I think that it's a bit too much for so soon; don't you?

Over $40? Dern. And yeah, way too soon for the price to rise.

GameStop has Deals of the Week... but that's all I can think of.

If anyone's ever heard of GB games, NEVER Go there, EVER.
A quote from an employee that shows how much they care about customers: "If we ever have any rare games traded, the bosses will just take 'em away and sell 'em on eBay. We don't carry rare games, since the bosses can make money for themselves."

So that's...what? Less than one percent of all stores?
You have to realize that specialty stores, like Gamestop, vary greatly from place to place. One store may (although I am highly convinced that the quote used above was a joke) allegedly sell rare games on eBay which, technically, they are permitted to do, while others may advertise that they have a rare game in stock, and mention it to their customers. Still others may quietly place it on their shelves and leave it at that. The personal interaction with the customer at Gamestop is, in my experience, at a much deeper level than Target or Wal-Mart. Thus, you most likely know a lot more about your local GS's employees than your Super Target's. It's just how things work.
I have yet to encounter one of these "terrible" Gamestops where employees treat paying customers that get them their salaries like trash. I've been to at least five, roughly in a fifty mile radius. The variation of the emplyees there is vast, but still they provided at least acceptable service and didn't blab about whatever the owner of the GameStop decides to do with the games that customers sell to the store.
