If you elect to, you can keep some stuff from your save game in P3, and play it in FES.
Might help you go get some S-Links you didn't get in your current playthrough, cause you keep the SLinks you master, and your stats, compendium and a bit more stuff.
I played Persona 3OG 1.5 times
I played Persona FES 2 times
Last run was still 82 hours, and I did nothing but run through it at like level 99 and level as I little more than ran through tartarus full speed so my girl could see the cut scenes.
I guess it's better for you to start playing The FES version now, rather than having finished the Original version and must play all the way from the beginning in FES, it' better to start all over now than later I guess...?

I would recommend starting a new game in FES, and transferring over your P3 data. It would make it easier to plow through the game, though I actually decided not to do that when I started FES. My reason being that I wanted to put all the work in too, because that's part of the experience. However, I think I will take advantage of my P3 save file the next time I play through FES.
The only advantage I can think of that the original may have had over FES is that you could pray at the shrine to increase your academics without using up a day. However, it kind of seemed like my academics went up at the same rate, without the shrine visits. It may have just been my imagination though.
Plus there are some references to the original P3, that only those of us who played it will get. For example, there's a question in P3, and Miss Toriyumi asks it again, but stops herself, says that we've been over that already, and asks a different question.
Though FES is definitely the superior version, aside from the fact that it doesn't come with an artbook and soundtrack. I won't spoil any of it, but it's great. I completed the original P3 in about 90 hours(of recorded data).
I pretty much just did the basics though. I missed a number of social links, and the only Elizabeth's requests that I actually did that time were the old document ones. And I only got the good ending, plus there's a possible unlockable event that I hadn't heard of until now, which I used a guide for.
This time around, I have already clocked in at over 120 hours of recorded data, and I haven't even reached the point where I'll have to make "the choice". I'm going to do both this time, then finally start The Answer, and eventually get around to playing P4. It's an epic rpg, and the original was actually the rpg that took my interest in rpgs to the level it's at now. Plus it's the only game that I have spent almost $100 on in total(cost of the original + FES in Canadian dollars)
Anyways, sorry for the long post, but the decision is up to you. You can just continue on with the original, and play through The Answer afterwards. That would probably be much easier, and would definitely be less time consuming. But you would also miss out on all the extras, which I think more than warrants another playthrough.
Plus, I heard the Answer is only available in hard mode. I'm not sure if that's true, but if it is, then you should probably ease yourself into it by playing the hard mode in the Journey in FES. Good luck, and remember that each choice has its pros and cons.

I didn't think S.Links transferred?
I thought it was just Persona Compendium, and Stats (Charm, Courage, Knowledge)

Play P3 all the way... THEN play FES because there are important notes in BOTH FES ind the regular you need for P3FES-The Answer

I'm in the same situation as the thread starter. So, it's best for me to finish the original P3, then play The Answer in FES? I've already logged in 76 hours in the original.
