View Full Version : Enforcing signature image sizes

Perhaps as a result of the sudden influx of members, there are a lot of truly gigantic signatures in here. There's no way to automatically keep image sizes to a minimum in just the sigs as it is now, so we're going to have to ask you guys to show some restraint. As a guideline, please try to keep your sigs below, say... 250 pixels high by 500 pixels wide.
In addition, particularly egregious offenders will have their signature images unlinked, and we'll PM that person explaining why.
Edit: Click on the helpful thumbnail below to see how large that limit is.

I was afraid I was going to have to turn signatures off, but I'm glad this is going to get enforced because I enjoy reading/looking at some of the more humorous sigs every so often. So yeah, thanks.

Doesn't really affect me much since I disabled images, but it's nice there's a limit now.

Hint: If you are unsure of a particular image's dimensions, right-click on it and view the Properties.
If you've got a one-button mouse, I don't know what to tell you.

You should replace their sigs with something funny instead of totally removing it.

It's a little big. I'd reduce it to 3/4th (or maybe even half) its current size.

That, or he can just crop it from the top and bottom. It's only surpassing the limit by 23 pixels or so.

Signatures don't need to be removed, all that's needed is a limit. Some of us actually make signatures and like to show them down there for a reason. ;D Including myself.
It's either that or a forum can be created where signature(or tag) makers can show their work. Like an Art section or something.

I kinda agree with this. But at least we have the option to turn them off!!! Looks like I wasn't missing out on much.

Is there a way to just weed out the anime signatures? The rest of them are fine, like the fish ones.

Fish are the most anime creatures on the planet.

If people have a one-button mouse, they need to upgrade their computers. Even the newer Macs have two buttons heh (Or you can just Ctrl-Click).

I vote that it should be proportional to the content the user usually provides. Having a huge signature when all some people say is a one to four word response takes up too much space. Behave proportionally, people!
Of course, I'm kidding. If I remember correctly, 400 W x 100 H was used on South Park Studios, and that seemed to work quite well as a constant. Either way I agree that some people's sigs are too damn big.

I know this is a little off topic from what was put in the thread in the first place but I had a Signature I had use when I first join the faithful but now it doesn't show up when I make a post. I check my Signature and where it says Can Upload Images for Signature its says NO and I cant change it is there a way to fix that.
Thanks again

You cannot upload an image. You can link to an image from elsewhere, though. Get a photobucket or imageshack account and use that.

Thank you for the information there I have an account with photobucket so I will use that now. But at least I know I wasn't crazy in the beginning when I first started to post, heh I even found that old post and the Sig image is in there. As you can see I fix the problem I was havening with the Sig Image.

OK, when I click on the "helpful thumbnail" link, it says either I'm not good enough or the mods hate me. Is it just me? :very_sad:
Anyway, changed my sig to comply with the size limit. :)

I agree with this as well. I've had signatures turned off for quite a while now. Without that option I would have quit by now.

Since the thumbnail doesn't work, I believe this is what the maximum size looks like.

Also, I am a member on another forum that's running on vBulletin. On this forum, if your signature is too large, it's just cut off. Whether it's text or a picture, it's cut off. Would something like that be possible on this forum if the problem gets out of hand?
I guess this would also be as good a time as any to change my sig now that I know it can be bigger than what I have right now.
EDIT: I'm sorry if 17 pixels too wide is unacceptable.
I'm not special enough to see the thumbnail D=
I feel so unloved

250 pixels high seems truly outrageous.

I just joined yesterday, but I was pretty sure my image was in the acceptable size area.
It was working this morning, and when I came home from work, it was gone and my option to have pictures is gone.
I never received a message explaining why or anything. :/
It was a 100 X 100 little GIF picture, 9.32 kb, of Kyo from Malice Mizer holding his hand over his mouth in a shocked expression, and it said 'Reality is Cruel, isn't it?'
Was that type of thing not allowed?
Or it is because I'm a newb and don't have many posts yet? If that's the reason, why did it let me have one in the first place?
The text formatting is a little irritating.

It's still there in your profile. Try setting your signature to use the actual URL of the image, not [sigpic].

Are animated signatures allowed? It's hosted on another site, not uploaded here, and it's well within the size limit.

I would suggest you give my signature the respect it deserves. Otherwise my friend here, and his tens of thousands of friends, will have to have a word with you.

I think enforcing signature image sizes would definately be nice to have. I have not been around the forum for quite a while, but I already feel a sense of headache from the various pictures close to the written text box. Sometimes, I have to reread a post twice because I felt like his picture was apart of his quote. On another note, I also don't notice the reference in the picture because my mind is assuming it's just a signature.
It's just a suggestion, but how about moving the signature into box, where users can easily scroll within the box when they find the user's signature interesting. I'll be honest; I find signatures to be a way to express yourself like the avatars. However, I won't care about anyone's signature after a while because the text is more important to me anyways, and I've probably seen it too many times. Just a suggestion.
