View Full Version : So, are any of you actually playing this?

'Cause I am! :D

The game definitely picked up after getting Paro, but even more so after getting Pinky.

So far I'm really enjoying the writing. I haven't burst out laughing or anything, but I did smile here and there :) I see it as a good thing when I want to see the next piece of dialogue in any game, just to enjoy it.

Combat is really fast, which is awesome. I'm also glad you can pretty much speed up animations, be it on the map when healing, pouting, or performing certain attacks. I first noticed this when I managed to get Pinky to learn an attack that damaged front-line enemies and drained their health but didn't want to keep seeing it :P

I just completed my first dungeon!

Actually, the main purpose of this thread is that I wanted to share with you guys my favorite and most enjoyable moment in the game so far :D I had gotten to the fourth boss (I believe their name was Lone Warriror) and I decided to up the ante...

lolz.

Anyway, after I found out that pouting effects stacked, I did "Gimme more EXP!," "I hate being poor!," and "These enemies stink!" (made the boss stronger) on its tile and retried so many times because every time I'd get wiped out I'd come up with a different strategy (which made me have to get moar PP!) XD

Gah! It was so annoying (albeit masochistically fun) fighting the boss and finding out that if only I had two more PP, things might be better...! I proceeded to farm money to eat and raise my PP until I was satisfied...of course, I'd go in soooo sure that I could take him, but then think, "Crap...maybe if I get two more PP for this..." and stuff.

Sometimes I'd restart because Pinky would get killed (horrible, horrible HP/defense at that point--at least with toughened enemies) first right from the get-go =/ Oh, and some were experimental battles, too--I wanted to see if maybe Paro could learn something...

Nope <_<

Anyway, all of it was such an interesting experience and really made me appreciate the game so much more :D Seriously, you can make this game as easy or hard as you want, and I really like that.

In the end, I made them my bitch with Ladies first/Holy Bombs/Hey! Stand Still!/healing/repeat :D It felt sooo good when I won.

I'm about seven hours in and loving the experience--it's certainly unique.

Some things I really like: being able to run away from boss battles; items are useful; the way magic is learned through Paro *(I'm not sure I understand it quite yet, though); Pinky's method to stat boosts and things he can equip; and most importantly...pouting! Oh, and the manual is great, too, by the way ;)

I was a bit skeptical about this game at first, honestly, but I'm definitely glad I purchased it and that you guys localized it. Thank you :)

*Maybe I just think everything goes into the "Other" category :P Just to be clear, I have to get hit [with Elise] a certain amount of times with spells, right? All in one battle or does the learning stack?

I've been reading on other forums pretty decent things about it, I don't have it. Not sure if I want it yet. However, it seems to be one of those titles thats good to play when you got spare time.

I'll pick it up when I get more money. It isn't something that I wanted so much as to pre-order it.

Cash is tight right now and I'm deciding between this or Deadly Creatures.
So it's a decision between Pink: The RPG or feeding my childhood urge to make bugs tear each other apart.

And even if I made my order today, it'll take two weeks for it to arrive from Amazon. :(

I agree with everything Dragonlife said, played a bit more and I really really like it.

I'm pretty sure the spell learning stacks (you don't have to be hit with x number of spells in one battle) I'm wondering if there is a level requeriment to learn spells cause I tried getting hit like 10 times by one of the boss spells (deadly blades) and I didn't learn anything.

I like how hard the game is!

I just got it tonight. Perhaps I'll get around to playing it sometime in the next few months (I really just have too much to play). I'm glad to read good things about it here because some of the reviews I've read have been harsh.

Sei

^ I think the reviews, particularly GS's one were somehow against it from the get go. The graphics are fine, the art is charming, the battles are hard and there are a lot of interesting systems. The pout point thing is pretty neat, too, and I like the writing.

This is one of the few games I think I would wholeheartedly recommend to just about anyone who likes rpgs.

Still early in it so that might change, but honestly it is really good so far. I thought id play a few mins and then go back to Star Ocean, but that just fell out of the map.

I'm glad you're enjoying it, too, Sei!

Actually, I think I may have figured out when Paro learns skills--I think it's always after you level up. I noticed that he wouldn't learn anything, even though I let the enemy use their attacks on me for what seemed an eternity (that's not saying much, though, 'cause I'm impatient and just kill them). That said, I also believe you learn all the spells you've "heard" when leveling up if you have the minimum amount needed to learn each respective spell; I say this because I learned two spells at one point, and one made me go, "Huh?"

Oh, I really enjoy the gate boss music :D So awesome.

Oh, heh yeah, he actually learns them the next time you level up if you have been hit by them enough. Your bodyguard says so fairly early :P

I've been enjoying it quite a bit lately. I've only been stuck at one point (against the Succubus), but I just used the lowering enemies pout, and ran through as I was stuck and didn't feel like training. I was actually surprised that it worked on bosses, but going along with the theme of the game, it works out just fine.

I enjoyed MML so much so far, I support this game as well and picked it up.

Not only that, but after I requested from Gamestop, I sold the concept to people who were curious and checked out combat engine in MML on my DS, and between this and MML - 3 copies of MWMW and 2 copies of MML were moved.

Just proof some DS games need demos, ATLUS...

I never played MML cause I didn't really like Dungeon Maker, how is it?

raum215

I must say - it plays like a puzzle game with a RPG mechanic. The slime is pretty much the same and therefore awesome. The two games have some of the same creatures, from what I have seen. Alot of art is similar but not identical.

The game is fun. You have a shovel. You dig. You set up rooms - and these lure creatures. You beat the creatures for loot. Loot improves the local economy and improves the reputation of the town, and you can make more stuff. People make requests, like the Magic Shop guy who wants to eat food you need to get new rooms to lure. Being that you set up the dungeon, for loot - it plays alot like a farming game - where you have a slaughterhouse instead of a vegetable row. I like that.

More importantly - how you grow. You only grow by eating. No exp value for anything. You get stuff to eat by getting what drops from your kills. The only way to guarantee a drop is to make a corner fight (where you step in and enemies to the left, right, and front attack you) - the last creature killed drops an item guaranteed - but may not be the one you want, some of which are edible. These make recipes that improve your stats. But you only get to eat one meal a day, based on the recipes you know - and the ingredients you farm, or buy from the creepy girl in the market.

Based on an enemy quota that trigger boss fights (first one took three tries), you are digging for the way to get down to the next level where more loot and enemies are introduced. I am not sure how much deeper it gets, but it's is worth my 20 bucks so far.

So in effect, you are digging a dungeon, and fulfilling requests, and also planning your menu, which determines how powerful you are, and the debate to improve HP by 2 or MP by 1 is a daily affair early on, and continues now. After level 1 you get "elevator spells" (warp and return - 0 MP to cast) which basically let you select what level of the dungeon you want to go to. I find it is difficult to overlevel, but hard to find a real challenge if you get enough potions and plan dungeons to be easy - which in turn don't yield as much stuff to improve, and may not fulfill your requests.

"Kate" is mah cook right now - she joins the party as a third, I am sure, and is also in the insert to MWMW. For now, me and Gloop (the green slime mimicing the enemies) are doing ok. In each dungeon level, there are different creatures introduced - and you can make it hard or easy on yourself. I am playing a bit of a challenge, and have a bit of fun making a neat dungeon - and I was very disappointed dungeon maker. This is much better that most DS rpgs claiming to have depth because of its naturally segmented days - which is a eat and grow, rest, and save event. Mainly cause, if you leave the dungeon, you can't go in again until the next day. So, short play sessions are not just possible but intuitive. (I did grind about 4 hours in it on sundaym though.)

its actually pretty addictive, only thing i didn't liked was the way to move trough the fields, but it can be forgiven since the rest of the game is pretty great :P i really hope to see a sequel with improvements since the idea of the game is awesome itself.

I'm secure enough in my masculinity to play good games even if the guys at the local GameStop give me funny looks when I buy them. So, just going by the comments in this thread, I'll probably buy My World, My Way tomorrow, which is, of course, payday.

It is girly, but hey! It wouldn't be the same if it was a guy doing this... right?

Anywayz, I've been playing this game for roughly 2 weeks and I can say it didn't impress me at first coz some of the gameplay reminded me of Master of the Monster Lair and it just didn't suit my style of gameplay =/

But then I got back into it and made it to the last section: Chaos Land. I eventually gave up though coz I got too lazy to level up. I was like 50 and I had to fight a lvl 69 dragon... wth?
Although my Pinky was EXTREMELY strong, my Ellise wasn't! ._.

It's an alright game, but facing repetition isn't something I'm used to. The humor is good though, I laughed several times. It would've been SO awesome if they added voice for Ellise actually saying Shut up! or Talk to the hand! XD

i picked this up recently, as my hours at work increase my gaming time has decreased so i'm only like 4.5 hours in, but i'm totaly loving it... my favorite pout so far is "Shut up, would you!?" because any time an enemy gets down by 1/3rd HP any enemy with a Heal Spell casts it, i so hate self healing enemies...

Couldn't you have pouted and decreased the dragon's level by 10?

I'm only at the 3rd area (Snow Land), but I'm finding that leveling is not a problem in this game. I'm pretty much using "monster level+10" pout and "more EXP" pout just about every time....

Anyway, my favorite pout is definitely "Monsters here stink!" pout. Being able to change the monster's difficulty is pretty awesome. :)

I bought it the other day out of desperation to play something on my DS. It's not bad, in fact it's quite cute. It's extremely repetitive though, but the dialogue is funny enough to forgive that.

I'll admit this is a lot of fun and cut its way into my Mother 3 / Brandish 2 schedule... on the other hand, I haven't even opened MML since I got it last year.

I'm constantly looking for the "Auto Fight" button though! The battles can be a little slow, there should have been an option to disable battle animations.

About a demo... KitN should absolutely get one on the Nintendo channel...

Well, you can skip through some battle animations by spamming A button, but yeah, I do wish there was a way to quicken the battles overall. I feel the biggest complaint people/reviewers seem to have against this game ("it's repetitive") could have been largely avoided with options like that.

jeffx
02-23-2009, 12:38 PM
Yeah I know you can skip them by repeatedly tapping A, but my (3rd...) DS is brand new and the buttons are still a little sharp/tough. I kid you not, my right thumb hurts from playing MWMW so much. I could have done with holding X à la Persona 4's triangle button.

Actually, I've never really bothered to use the "escape" command because the most common scenario is that the princess's stats are stacked enough that the damage she takes is still minimal. Can't say the same for "Pink" though.

And yes, I'm playing the Japanese original. わがまま technically translates to "selfish", so hearing it called as "pout" makes no sense to me.

As for Pink's skill set, Pink can learn magic spells through the "imitate" feature as long as the part being imitated is the head of the monster you just defeated. Once Pink has learned the magic, Pink can essentially cast the magic any time you desire as long as Pink has the MP for it. Physical skills are more dependent on the "body" and the "arms". There are a few Physical skills that come with the "head" part, such as the generic Sting skill from those beetles you fight on the grasslands. Most Physical skills are limited in the sense that you MUST have a specific body part in order to use it and that once you switched out the body part with a different monster's part, you cannot use that particular skill anymore.

The whole imitation process occurs randomly and can get pretty annoying if you're in a hurry.

Just got it today. I have to say that I felt that the writing is somewhat kitschy -- but not to the detriment of the game. I actually appreciate that the game is self aware and, while the game is simplistic, it's enough fun to slog through without having the frustration of poor voice acting (leers at Star Ocean: The Last Hope).

I just got Paro in the game... hopefully I can get further in pretty soon!

I imagine you already figured it out by now (seeing how my reply to your question is three days late....), but he's at the second level of the dungeon. You can't miss him... unless you missed the stairway to the second level.

I really, really enjoyed this game up until the last level where I had to get a lot of cash to get the ultimate weapon. Even with pouting it took a long time since I'd blown a lot of what I had to eat a meal and raise Elise's Pout Points.

Argh, I want to say so much more but I don't want to give anything away, so I'll just end with saying that I adore Nero and I was very happy with the ending.
