Interesting... although I don't usually care for reviews much, this one has definitely piqued my interest on this game even more higher than it already is.

Bozon wrote quite an interesting Closing comments for that review and somehow it jumped up from my "Will pick up eventually" to "Buy when I see it in stores" ... the game probably used some pout points on me or something.

I'm very glad I can post this like this. There are two important things I humbly suggest as you see these (in many ways) contrasting reviews. If you're going to mind reviews, use the review content as your primary influence, not the score. Also, unless you are someone who is really out of touch with your own tastes, don't even let reviews sway you. The people that write them are ordinary people just like you, they are gamers, and they have their own tastes (as beautifully illustrated by the tones and scores of the two reviews we have here).
Try to think for a moment, if you saw the Gamespot review first, how would you feel? If you saw the IGN review first, how you would feel? Better yet, if you didn't see either and only had your own research and feelings to base your decision off of, how would you feel? Why?
Personally, when it comes to what games I will and will not buy and play, they are entirely My Thoughts MY Decisions.

Is that a preview or a review? Where the hell does that 5/10 come from?

For a review, imo, it doesn't really do nearly enough to explain WHY s/he feels the game is "bland and full of tedious filler, resulting in an ultimately unsatisfying journey", is outdated (I assume this comment is based entirely on the fact the game is turn based), and should be passed over for 'better' games. I dunno, but am I just spoiled from the in-depth reviews (and charm) of Zero Punctuation?
I mean, all but one paragraph of the review is spent towards things that a preview or a few gameplay videos can tell you; it's only the last paragraph that actually says why this person thinks the game deserves this review. Fake edit: Correction, the review goes a little into why quests are boring, but then again, quests are boring just about all games due to their nature of being filler. :P
I mean, the IGN review spends more than three times the number of words just detailing the game's biggest gimmick: pouting. Then he goes on to explain about the pink blob, the parrot, among other things, which are aspects the GS review doesn't touch at all.
All in all, poor review on GS's part but I will be grabbing this. Finding time to play this, however, is probably a problem I can't pout my way out of.

The game pokes fun at itself for re-using character art for each shop owner, innkeeper, and some additional supporting characters...Man, I love stuff like this
...textures are all lackluster but bearable, though Elise could easily be confused with a blonde scarecrow whenever she's on the field.
Anyway, IGN's review really got me interested! :D But, man...Fire Emblem is this month...:very_sad:And Tenchu...and House of the Dead...
T_T
I have enough money for only one game...and since My World, My Way is $30, I guess that will be my choice until next I get money for FE :D
Mwahaha; I wonder if I'll get asked anything when I ask for the game :)

Personally, when it comes to what games I will and will not buy and play, they are entirely My Thoughts MY Decisions.
I generally tend to go just for the score average now a days. Reviews, I feel, are full of spoilers, especially of the early game that sets the whole stage for the rest of it. Reviews now a days give you all of the mechanics, characters, sometimes twists, etc. So when I read multiple reviews I end up getting bored as I know everything (more or less) that is going to happen in the game.
I've found that when I just go by the scores of trusted sources, or the median score (mean can be tainted by extremes!) I tend to enjoy games more. I appreciate when they give important information in a bubble with one or two words, like Story: Good, Difficulty: High, Lenght: 60 hours, or something like that. It's all subjective anyway, but it gives you a non spoiling guideline.
A lot of reviews, I feel, are written as if they are for someone that has already played the game, not for someone that hasn't and would like the most of it's plot and elements (for instance, the Valkyria Chronicles Kotaku one mentions a subplot that comes in later in the game that the reviewer didn't like, and he pretty much details the whole thing).
Anyways, picking this up, it sounds quite interesting.

They give plenty of good games bad scores. I actually went into a "I don't trust *enter site here* after they gave *enter game here* a/an *enter score here*" with them.
They drew the line when they gave Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn a 6.0--6.0, Manly Biceps! 6.0!

But yeah, GameSpot's reviewers have really gone down hill in recent years. It's a sad, sad thing really...

I'm noticing a lot of that type of feedback from regulars I know there. I guess its not a coincidence that it seems to correlate to a lot of turnover in their review staff recently.

I just picked it up, myself. All I said was, "Hey, do you have any copies of My World, My Way?" with my normal voice and they guy said, "We just got them in" and he got my copy, rang it up, and said, "Enjoy; have a nice day."
No weird stares or anything.

I picked mine up today as well. I know the guys at the GameStop I frequent but even they gave me a funny look and asked, "What the hell is this?". After I showed them the back of the box and explained the pout feature they were laughing and thought the concept was awesome. As of now i'm 3 hours into the game and having a blast. The writing has made me laugh out loud a few times already. My first impression is definitely favorable.
As for the reviews, they're writing for a large, mainstream audience and Atlus' releases aren't exactly geared toward Joe Halo who thinks the epitome of gaming is teabagging the 12 year old he just killed over XBLA. Consider the source and all that.

I went to a Gamestop, asked for My World, My Way, looked at the open case and the manual - shrugged and put it back. If this had been sprites, I'd bit but the game didn't look like a game that would make it off my backlog anytime soon. Instead, I got Master of the Monster Lair which I had been on the fence about. I figured if this is REALLY good, I might look at My World, My Way. I looked at the book for both games - and they seem to be even more similar than I thought. But when it comes to it, designing is better than whining.
The Slime is green in Master of the Monster Lair - I like green better. And Shovel is funny in a corny way, buddy! But therein is a pretty solid mechanic, for my money.
Cooking is a focus of Master of the Monster Lair so I will play it a bit, and so far it is OK for midnight snack gaming. It is actually a decent portable lite dungeon crawler where YOU build the dungeon. The main complaint against it was that is is a grind fest - which must mean it has ATLUS on the box. Oh wait, it does!
If you like ATLUS humor, aimed at pre-teens but still clever - and you like to grind, and can retrogame a bit without feeling like it is missing something or feeling like less of a hardcore gamer, you will like either of these titles. If you hate turn-based battles, grinding for success or quirky cooking and item systems - you prolly won't like it, or much else that comes from ATLUS, so leave already.
My score is "WORTH STORE CREDIT with a P2P of 82".
***My personal scoring system doesn't compare games against the other titles on the shelf, but against the idea of a fair market price based on what is being asked. It includes a WORTH rating, and a P2P value. It is as follows:
WORTH PREMIUM (more than 100 dollars)
WORTH IMPORTING (more than 80 dollars)
WORTH RETAIL (25-75 dollars CASH buying NEW)
WORTH STORE CREDIT (25-75 dollars, but not all cash - find on sale or use store credit)
WORTH USED (worth getting, not worth the 5 bucks to get sealed)
WORTH BARGAIN BIN (worth no more than 25)
WORTH LITTLE (not worth more than 2 dollars or 5 hours gameplay)
The P2P value of this title is estimated to 82. (This means I forsee playing it more hours than dollars I paid for it. P2P means "pennies to pleasure" and is how I measure my entertainment budget. It is how many hours I will play compared to the price. 100 means I would play a 30 dollar game for 30 hours.) For reference sake, that means I see this game being played for 36 hours, thus each hour I play it is about 82 cents enjoyment, cumulative.
WORTH rating and P2P value are not inclusive, btw. Meaning 2 hours of a GREAT game, based on its WORTH rating *may* be worth a higher price, if the game is better. Thus a rare game that is barely playable may have a high WORTH rating, but a low P2P value. I find this works better than arbirtary "out of ten systems" which usually just rate a game as a playable product but says nothing of what a fair price might be.

RPGFan gave it a 65% overall. Not bad even though the math doesn't add up quite right since this game would've gotten a 74% instead going by the numbers...
http://www.rpgfan.com/reviews/My_World_My_Way/index.html
Still, an interesting game but I think I'll spend my $30 with Oneechanbara for the wii instead this month. HoTD I personally don't think is worth the $60...I'll wait for it to go around $40 max before I think about getting it.

There was only one reviewer I found that had nearly identical tastes as me in RPGs, and thats the dude from 1Up, but I think according to Kakizaki he got fired or something. No idea who he is with now, but I wish I knew. I always took his reviews very seriously.

Nope. I didn't judge *this* game - I said I opted out of it, but it prompted me to instead get Master of the Monster Lair, which was a game worth what I paid, based on the fun I had last night.
I hear a lot of people who are saying (here and elsewhere) that this game is too "pink" (it's not pink enough) - and while I don't agree (I want really silly prissy stuff if I play a princess RPG- I played RayEarth on Game Gear in Japan, for peach sake!) I mentioned MoML as an option because it got no love anywhere, and it is a viable option to this for someone who wants less princess in their RPG.

Yes, and they use the same combat engine and have similar turn-based mechanics. I got MoML instead - but it is so fun, I am thinking about giving My World, My Way a shot later.
If I had the money with no commitments or plans, it would be a no-brainer to get it. But I am trying to go on a real vacation this year and making other plans. we'll see...

Lol, dont be ashamed to ask for it on a store. Its not like its totally pink and super girly, it just have a girl as the main character and she's not even that pink looking =P. Besides, never seen Slayers? Lina Inverse is one of the most famous anime characters ever and she's the main character of a guy's orientated show.
Anyway i even got Elise on my MSN avatar xD i think she's pretty fun. When she tells the monsters they exist only to give her experience its just great. Its really unconventional and i love how the story is so absurd and wacky xD, i really didn't expected that. So far the game really hooked me and i think the IGN review is pretty acurate.
An 8.0 out of ten? Huh, I didn't think it would do this well!
Might have to go and buy it, you just can't not like the concept behind the game, at least!
I'm always up for a good, original game!
