Yes I know this is a Square Enix game and that this is a year and half old, but I've lost all faith that Square will bring this over. I have contacted them several times about bringing this over, and instead they bring out other less worthy games. And I desperately want to play this game, because I hear that it is the best in the series thus far and I loved Front Mission 1, 3 and 4.
I know this isn't very likely to happen, but it never hurts to try. Here is a trailer for it.

Alas, Front Mission 5 is the second highest-profile mech strategy game around here that we can't possibly do. Sorry about that.

Well that blows, guess that I will just have to live with out it I guess. Cause I cant think of any other publisher that would even consider this amazing game, oh well thanks any way.

Oh, it's not about consideration. It's about rights and money.

There may be a fan translation of this game in the future. If I could understand Japanese at all I'd help out.

Of course, many of the fan translations I've seen were never fully completed.

Armodyne confirmed! He said high-profile, not mid-ranged-profile, FM5 is definitely better than Armodyne. :P Maybe he's talking about OGs. :o :D

Hence why I bolded what he said. SRT was a terrible disappointment. I hope to god we don't see any more over here.
Like I said, Armodyne confirmed!

I admit, I was waiting a long time for this one too, as I am a huge FM fan, but it seems too much time has passed and it probably won't see an English translation, which is a real shame. :( Another one I was really excited about was "Front Mission: Online" for PS2 in Japan. Sadly, I don't think it's going to see an American release eaither...

There is a translation out there only 2 problems
A) the only part not translated is the story...you know the important part.
B) it's not like you can patch your copy you got of ebay or watever you'd either have a beast of a computer and hope theres a good ps2 emulator for the pc or you'd have to mod your PS2 both which are illegal in most countries including the US...not here...but Most places

Actually, both problems have easy solutions :
A) Wait for the final patch.
B) Use Swap Magic, it is 100% legal (I fail to see why modding something you own can be branded as illegal, though).

You don't actually own the software, that's why. No one will ever come after an end-user, but that's why big companies like to shutdown modders.

I have completely lost confidence in Square as a company! All they care about is money and the only game from them in the past 7 years I've liked was Dragon Quest 8! Thank the glorious god of gameing for blessing us with a company like Atlus, thats been successfully releaseing amazeing RPGs in this day and age. If they port FM 5, I will litteraly get their logo tattooed on my back!

:agree:
FF series used to be my favorite set of video games, but now that they seem to be un-original... They just don't catch my eye anymore. I find myself, more and more looking for "Atlus" symbol in place of the Squaresoft symbol I used to look for a long time ago, because they used to put out quality titles repeatedly.
It's sad.
(I thought Square-Enix merging was a great idea at the time, because it sounded good on paper, but for some reason it just hasn't performed as well as I thought it should)
Anyways, back to the topic... I wish they could give Atlus the rights to this game. I love Front Mission. I want them to bring this over mainly, and as a bonus, bring over Borders of Madness. I wouldn't mind having the FM3 art style brought back to the series, too. It looked final fantasy tactics (PS1) esque and I've always liked the look of that game.

Dragon Quest 8 was made by Level 5, not square enix.

Well Enix has always been a publisher rather then a developer I don't think they develop many (if any) of there games.
Secondly didn't FM4 sell really badly so why would they bother with FM5 obviously the series isn't that popular in America.

What software are you talking about ? I mean, if we add a special "chip" to a PS2, we are no altering its software in any way...
Custom firmwares and people who profit on modding are an entirely different matter, of course.
He means you don't actually own the game [property], so obviously it's illegal to modify it.
Altering software, regardless of profitting or not, is still illegal.

Well you were talking about the final translation patch, so I assumed you lumped that in when you were talking about modding and whatnot.

When I made that remark about modding, I was referring to playing imports (which was his second problem and he stated that modding a PS2 is illegal in most countries).
I hope everything is clear now...

But I doubt that is ever going to happen.

Not even a co-publishing deal? Well, in the Atlus U.S.A. site, it mentions the phrase, "...exclusively co-published by ATLUS & SEGA," in regards of three Shining games and Puyo Pop Fever. So, why not on FM5?

Probably because Square-Enix would ask for an exorbitant amount of money... or simply not sell the rights (S-E is very protective of their properties, any Chrono fan would tell you that :P It was also enough to make MonolithSoft change the Xeno universe to avoid trouble despite S-E having zero interest in using the Xenogears property). Combine that with Front Mission not being terribly popular and it's a recipe for Atlus USA to lose money.

Add in the possibility that say Front Mission 5 or any Front Mission title published under the "Atlus" name, whether by themselves or jointly with S.E., does well or better than expected, that could tarnish the S.E. name.
Let's be honest nothing outside of the FF or DQ series gets any real marketing so I think its a possibility that Front Mission might get more coverage under the Atlus brand. Add in spoils, exlusive G.S./Amazon offers, and possibly a new audience... all this seems to be in favor of Atlus doing a better job than S.E.
Of course it could fail horribly and never be picked up again outside of S.E. It seems that it just wouldn't be worth it to either company.

There is an online petition to Square Enix to bring Front Mission 5 to America.
It can be found here: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/fm5sotw/
There's already about 3,600 signatures.
If you want it, give the petition a sign - I mean, hey, it couldn't hurt.
I'd buy it. Oh well, at least there is a fairly well going translation patch for it in the works.

If FM6 is made, they should release World Historica Package with that fat artbook translated, and include FM2 and FM5, we can dream right...
Yes, I plan to eventually try out that fan translation, but localization would be so much better...
