1UP has started a new RPG-centric blog called The Grind (http://www.1up.com/1upblogs/5/1ups_rpg_blog), and they're kicking off a series of looks at upcoming RPGs with some My World, My Way impressions (http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=8979916&publicUserId=5379721).
My World is the sort of game that might appeal to dedicated RPG nuts, but those guys tend to be pretty scared of the color pink. American RPG fans have very easily frightened senses of masculinity, a fact which is thrown into sharp relief every time a new Final Fantasy protagonist is revealed. So who knows! But beneath it all is a respectable and amusing role-playing game, dedicated level-grinding beneath a cheeky patina of light satire. It's definitely not the most promising RPG due in the coming months, but I suspect it's a lot more to your tastes than you probably expect it to be.

Finally a preview that delivers some gameplay impressions. I'm much more interested now.

Here's hoping you can get spoiled enough where you can bitch at someone to give you a horse and carriage, carry you to the final area, spend some Pout points to open the door, make an escalator appear to take you to the final boss, and spend your last few Pout points to have it keel over with a single touch.
That will make this the best game ever and I'll buy two copies. :D

I was kind of scared off before, but the gameplay looked interesting. I'd still be slightly embarrassed to purchase it, but whatever. Here I come, My World, My Way!

Sorry, but, LOL wut? Scared of the color pink? Is he perhaps confusing JRPG fans with WRPG fans, who are more likely to play games like Oblivion or Fallout 3? I'm apparently talking to far different RPG fans then he is.

I dunno, I see quite a few posters around here (who clearly enjoy JRPGs) sneering at "princess games." I don't think he's too far off the mark.
EDIT: I mean, sure, I'm biased about the game since I work at Atlus. But it's worth pointing out that when I've seen media coverage of the game, such as the import impressions in Play magazine (http://www.playmagazine.com/index.php?fuseaction=SiteMain.showJapanPage&Japan_ID=227) or this 1UP hands-on with the US version, it tends to be very positive. People who actually play the game seem to like it, but most JRPG players probably won't see past the girly exterior to give it a chance.

I not only sneer, I scoff and chortle.

I'm curious about this because I do enjoy making this game the brunt of my jokes and apperently people think I am trying to scare them off from buying it(I honestly don't care). But If you guys new the girly exterior would scare some gamers off, why didn't you change it?

Maybe they don't like false advertising? I hate it when a company changes the box art for a game to get a wider audience and it ends up being nothing like the actual game. UFO I'm looking at you.

I'll probably buy this after I beat Etrian Odyssey II, The Dark Spire, and Raidou Kuzunoha vs King Abaddon -- unless Atlus gets really generous and hits me over the head with a sequel to Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne or remasters of the PSX Persona games. :)

I'll definitely be picking this up and can't see why guys would be turned away from a color...

I'm more embarrassed than turned off, but then again, this is coming from a Harvest Moon fan. I've never let embarrassment stop me! xD

I have an Edsel pink DS that I play in public, and I'm also a long-haired metalhead. I'd have no trouble playing this.

Same here. *hi-five* \m/ >_< \m/ (and all that).
However, I have since traded in my pink DSL for a black one and I regret it (since the place I traded in my DS didn't have any pink ones). :(
Seeing how some people get scared off from this game makes me want to play this that much more; but I already have too much to play ....

I got over the embarassment. Lol try wearing your varsity jacket into a gamestop and asking for a final fantasy game. Stink eye and their answer "is this a gift for someone?"
true story..

Not to mention Ultimate Shooting Collection came out last week and is getting a lot of love from hardcore Wii owners. #### kotaku anyway.

lol whatever guess i dont look like a "typical gamer". stereotyping works both ways.
On topic I've been gettin the impression that this will be the next Rhapsody, with superior gameplay. A lighthearted and girly RPG. Can't wait to see how this is received by the masses after Tuesday.

Obviously, since the guy have never heard of the game before, it automatically is labeled shovelware. I mean, while the games in the collection aren't the greatest, Ultimate Shooter Collection is hardly shovelware as well.

I like Bashcraft when he writes about arcades, SHMUPs and crazy Japan stuff. Crecente the birdshirt-wearing pirate is sometimes hilarious. But the other writers are whiny little bitches.
They were really good back when they didn't allow user comments. No direct relation, I know, just circumstantial. That and I could do without their hourly Madden stories / pseudo-financial reports.
Anyway siliconera has all the news we need nowadays.

Speaker of the truth, I bow to thee. I think the whole "Eternity's Child" fiasco brought them more harm than it did their intended target.
(no double-post edit)
Ugh. Way to go Crecente:
"iPhone Get's It's GTA (Knock Off)" (http://kotaku.com/5141603/iphone-gets-its-gta-knock-off)
One apostrophe is bad but TWO??? My IQ just went down from reading this.
