Well Persona 4 only took about 4-5 months, and this came out in October sometime I believe? Maybe March? Persona games has a lot of text and voice work, while I'm not sure if Devil Summoner has more text (still working on it) but no voice work, I wouldn't be surprised if it releases in March. That date on gamefly may just be a placeholder?

Although I know what you're saying, I guess I don't understand how the PR portion of the game industry is supposed to work, especially in the case of Atlus USA and these so-called "protection" failures. Don't they WANT people to know that games X and Y will be released in the near future? Is it all about the satisfaction of being able to announce your own games on your own terms? Someone fill me in on the point of this information hoarding.

I would imagine that a game publisher would want to be the main source of an announcement of a new game and the announcement stems out from there. I see no reason why Atlus would send a teaser email to get people excited just to let a retailer leak which game it is.

Atlus does want people to know that games X and Y are coming out, but they want to be the ones to do it, not Gamestop, the ESRB, Gamefly, etc. It's just like working really hard on a surprise party for your best friend and then having the guy the made the cake telling your best friend that he made a cake before the friend even gets to the party.

That's a crazy example, but maybe that's a little clearer. Maybe someone from Atlus could speak to this.

To answer my own question, I guess Atlus want to send out the news release at the same time as the website + trailer go live. That would make some sense. Anyway it was more of a rhetorical question in the first place.

Possibly the only way to make these "leaks" stop is to beat the retailers to the announce. I don't think all the dealers really care for "spoiling" the surprise, they just want to get the listings up and move on to other things. Business as usual for them.

Growlanser 5's release was also 'limited issue', and it's still everywhere. I think they're just taking steps to ensure this is more profitable than DS3's release was.

I'm not sure it's enough of a difference to get me hyped... I love Nocturne, don't get me wrong. But... it's the same game with Dante swapped for Raidou. That works and all, but if we don't see it, I'm fine with it... If we do see it, however... I will be preordering it as soon as we hear of it. ^^; (Bet you didn't expect to hear that after my "But it's not necessary" comments. ^^; )

Ahh, c,mon. I fully agree Square (Remake) Enix has earned that personally unfavorable reputation, but The World Ends With You was way back last Spring. They haven't gotten that bad.

They've put out Sigma Harmonics (which is a pretty cool game, IMO, you guys should check it out if it gets localized), The Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, Valkyrie Profile, I think most recently Dissida, and a couple others.

When someone decides to publish it over there. Atlus doesn't have a european branch, so it's up to other publishers in europe. It's usually Square-Enix I think? It's up to them or whoever else Atlus deals with over there.

Atlus games have always been weird with release dates. If you ask me, you take the date atlus gives you, like 5/12/2009 for release, then just say....anytime on the week of 5/12/2009 it should be there.

I got mine on 5/12/2009 exactly, some places get em on time, and some don't until friday. I think it's a matter of how close you are to their distribution centers.

Also the official date is 5/12/2009 it's released, but that generally means it "ships out" on that date, while most places will have it ready for sale the day after. That's not just atlus either, that's almost all of them.

:seesaw: meh guess i'll just raise holy hell about it with hollywood video anyway. i mean here i was expecting to be able to pick up my pre-order pay for it take it home and start playing but it wasn't even in store when i went to check to see if it had come in. usually the pre-orders i've made come in on the day of release but this one forget it :( oh well guess i'll just keep at trying to get max social links finished in persona 3 fes so i can fuse orpheus telos or at least try to. i mean 3rd play through and i still haven't been able to max every social link in a single playthrough, but thats another story or post.
