IRVINE, CALIFORNIA — JANUARY 9, 2009 — Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today vowed to deliver great justice and honor to Nintendo DS™ with Tokyo Beat Down™, a tale of greed, corruption, and good old-fashion violence. Experience the sweet nostalgia of classic coin-op beat ‘em ups, where you must rely on your fists, firearms, and anything else that happens to be lying around to beat the sin out of Tokyo's criminals. What do you do when thugs and hoodlums put peace and freedom in jeopardy? YOU BEAT THEM DOWN!

Tokyo Beat Down is scheduled to be unleashed on March 10, 2009 with an MSRP of $29.99.

About Tokyo Beat Down
Who has it within them to rise up against the ever growing threat of violence, crime, and terrorism on the streets of Tokyo? Enter the Beast Cops, tireless servants of justice. These men and women struggle night and day for the heart of the city. They’ll match any villain punch for punch, kick for kick, bullet for bullet. They’re Beast Cops because they will do whatever it takes, pay any price, inflict as much damage as necessary, in order to restore peace and security to the streets of Tokyo.

Key Features
• Beat ‘em up that lets you shoot ‘em up — When fisticuffs aren’t enough, add guns to deliver a whole new brand of justice to the mean streets of Tokyo. Pick up a variety of weapons, ranging from handguns to rocket launchers, for intense action on each level.
• Badass 70’s cop show vibe— Outrageous style, over-the-top substance, and no holds barred hardboiled police action mix with madcap humor and sharply-written dialogue. Dishing out justice to the seamy underbelly of Tokyo has never been this satisfying.
• Multiple characters & endings — This sordid tale of Tokyo’s criminal set unfolds through the eyes of three different cops with unique play styles. Story branches lead to multiple endings that determine whether you’ll get your shot to beat down the ultimate crime boss.

Tokyo Beat Down has been rated “T” for Teen with Alcohol Reference, Blood, Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Use of Tobacco, and Violence by the ESRB.

WOAH! YES! Never saw that one coming.

Here are three previews from Siliconera

Taking names as a Nintendo DS “beast detective” (http://www.siliconera.com/2008/02/26/taking-names-as-a-nintendo-ds-%E2%80%9Cbeast-detective%E2%80%9D/) (February 26, 2008 )

DS beast detective beat 'em up found in September (http://www.siliconera.com/2008/06/25/ds-beast-detective-beat-%E2%80%98em-up-found-in-september/) (June 25, 2008 )

Ready For A "Tokyo Beat Down"? (http://www.siliconera.com/2009/01/09/ready-for-a-tokyo-beat-down/) (January 9, 2009)

Slight criticism of the TBD website (http://www.atlus.com/tokyobeatdown/): Media Section > Screenshots. They are scaled down to the size of the frame so the text looks like rubbish. Would be great to get the full sized version. Everything else rules.

I've noticed we've been pretty lacking in Street Justice lately.

All i can say is WOW!!!
It's about time the DS had a beat em up, and a really cool looking one at that.
With This, Ys Book 1&2 DS, and Star Ocean:The Last Hope Coming Out within weeks of each of each other, it looks like i'll be running out of money fast!!!

BTW, what's The MSRP on this game???

I was skeptical till I saw the trailer. Most likely want on account of how awesome Rika seems to be.

Where is Devil Survivor and Devil Summoner 2 though? :(

The MANLY title to counteract Atlus's usually cutesy fair.

I approve of this move.

The trailer gives me Streets of Rage nostalgia. Haven't played a good beat-em-up in a while.

I wouldn't be surprised if either or both are on the horizon and they just haven't told us yet.

It would technically be Devil Summoner 4, so I bet they'll just call it Devil Summoner: [US title here].

Also, those graphics look really choppy. Seems like a better concept for a PSP game, but hey, maybe it'll be fun.

I'm a sucker for beat'um ups, but I hope we learn more about the combat system outside of what the website has listed so.

Holy ####--YES!!!

Atlus, I love beat-'em ups! *shakes with excitement* OMG, day freakin' one since not only is it a genre the DS--and, let's face it--the world--needs more of, but the setting is cool, too! I was expecting some sort of Yakuza goodness, but this in its own right is awesome!

Eeeeeek! :D:D:D ALL OVER MY FACE!
