Experience the sweet nostalgia of classic coin-op beat ‘em ups, where you must rely on your fists, firearms, and anything else that happens to be lying around to beat the sin out of Tokyo's criminals. What do you do when thugs and hoodlums put peace and freedom in jeopardy? YOU BEAT THEM DOWN!

About Tokyo Beat Down
Who has it within them to rise up against the ever growing threat of violence, crime, and terrorism on the streets of Tokyo? Enter the Beast Cops, tireless servants of justice. These men and women struggle night and day for the heart of the city. They’ll match any villain punch for punch, kick for kick, bullet for bullet. They’re Beast Cops because they will do whatever it takes, pay any price, inflict as much damage as necessary, in order to restore peace and security to the streets of Tokyo.
Key Features
• Beat ‘em up that lets you shoot ‘em up — When fisticuffs aren’t enough, add guns to deliver a whole new brand of justice to the mean streets of Tokyo. Pick up a variety of weapons, ranging from handguns to rocket launchers, for intense action on each level.
• Badass 70’s cop show vibe— Outrageous style, over-the-top substance, and no holds barred hardboiled police action mix with madcap humor and sharply-written dialogue. Dishing out justice to the seamy underbelly of Tokyo has never been this satisfying.
• Multiple characters & endings — This sordid tale of Tokyo’s criminal set unfolds through the eyes of three different cops with unique play styles. Story branches lead to multiple endings that determine whether you’ll get your shot to beat down the ultimate crime boss.
Tokyo Beat Down has been rated “T” for Teen with Alcohol Reference, Blood, Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Use of Tobacco, and Violence by the ESRB.

WOAH! YES! Never saw that one coming.
Here are three previews from Siliconera
Taking names as a Nintendo DS “beast detective” (http://www.siliconera.com/2008/02/26/taking-names-as-a-nintendo-ds-%E2%80%9Cbeast-detective%E2%80%9D/) (February 26, 2008 )
DS beast detective beat 'em up found in September (http://www.siliconera.com/2008/06/25/ds-beast-detective-beat-%E2%80%98em-up-found-in-september/) (June 25, 2008 )
Ready For A "Tokyo Beat Down"? (http://www.siliconera.com/2009/01/09/ready-for-a-tokyo-beat-down/) (January 9, 2009)
Slight criticism of the TBD website (http://www.atlus.com/tokyobeatdown/): Media Section > Screenshots. They are scaled down to the size of the frame so the text looks like rubbish. Would be great to get the full sized version. Everything else rules.

All i can say is WOW!!!
It's about time the DS had a beat em up, and a really cool looking one at that.
With This, Ys Book 1&2 DS, and Star Ocean:The Last Hope Coming Out within weeks of each of each other, it looks like i'll be running out of money fast!!!
BTW, what's The MSRP on this game???

I was skeptical till I saw the trailer. Most likely want on account of how awesome Rika seems to be.
Where is Devil Survivor and Devil Summoner 2 though? :(

I approve of this move.

Dude. Right in the first post. 30$
The trailer gives me Streets of Rage nostalgia. Haven't played a good beat-em-up in a while.

I wouldn't be surprised if either or both are on the horizon and they just haven't told us yet.

It would technically be Devil Summoner 4, so I bet they'll just call it Devil Summoner: [US title here].
Also, those graphics look really choppy. Seems like a better concept for a PSP game, but hey, maybe it'll be fun.

Holy ####--YES!!!
Atlus, I love beat-'em ups! *shakes with excitement* OMG, day freakin' one since not only is it a genre the DS--and, let's face it--the world--needs more of, but the setting is cool, too! I was expecting some sort of Yakuza goodness, but this in its own right is awesome!
Eeeeeek! :D:D:D ALL OVER MY FACE!

I won't knock this decision - yet.
I expect a Knights in the Nightmare and Devil Summoner anouncement coming soon Atlus!

No kidding eh? There are no April/May games announced as of yet. KITN is a prime candidate.

I second Olethros.
But this game looks badass. I love beat 'em ups, from Final Fight to Streets of Rage to Captain Commando. Day one, as they say.

I have to say, this looks rather interesting. March 10th is going to be a huge headache with The Dark Spire, MadWorld, Sonic and the Black Knight (Why do I keep coming back to Sonic?)... and now this. To many games...

We definitely need a game where the main guy can summon his mokkori power.
Oh god, now you got me imagining a Final Fight-type game with the City Hunter cast. Ryo, Kaori, Umibouzu, Saeko.... *drool*
OK, that is going right next to the cel-shaded Slam Dunk basketball game on my "videogames I desperately want but will never happen" list.

What an unexpected announcement. This game bombed so badly in Japan that there weren't any impressions whatsoever, so I guess I'll wait for English impressions.

Haha, omg, the trailer was pure gold. More beat em ups are always good. I played way too much Streets of Rage as a kid... :V
Hilariously a friend of mine who lives in Japan was showing me DS games she wanted to get, and showed me the JP site for this game. This was just a few days ago too. Never imagined it'd get a US release. Thank you!

Goddammit, Atlus...goddammit. Sorry to say, but MadWorld's gonna take priority over your fiendishly-placed The Dark Spire and Tokyo Beat Down; however, I'll definitely try to squeeze in all of them :D
Of course, February's House of the Dead: Overkill and Tenchu 4 D': I hope I can make it...:very_sad:

So far, the impressions I got on Tokyo Beat Down, based on the trailer vid that I watched on YouTube, include:
-- classic game play, in the tradition of Capcom beat-em-ups like Captain Commando and Final Fight
-- mayhem and chaos of Rockstar's State of Emergency
-- reminded me of the 70's cop show, "Starsky & Hutch," along with two Japanese cop shows, "Bayside Shakedown" and "Ninzaburo Furuhata"

With my intense love of the Streets of Rage series, this is a Day 1 for me!
I only have one little gripe. I get the whole joke with Lewis Canon. . . but you can't just change one guy's name to an English pun and leave the rest in Japanese! It's weird! You either have to Phoenix Wright it and change everyone's name, or leave them all alone and hope the few otaku in the audience will understand anyway.
I'm assuming it's too far in production to fix up now, so I'll just have to imagine Lewis is a transfer from an American police corps or something.
Still, looks freaking fun-tastic!

Atlus's strengths have been in DS and PS2 games the last couple years, this isn't any exception! Nobody can resist the allure of $30 Atlus games. ;)
I expect this game to sell more than the average Atlus print run.

To this day, I deliberately mispronounce "Streets of Rage" as "Streets of RAH-gey" because of the way Nintendo butchered the pronunciation of "Legend of Kage".

I am definitely playing this game when is comes out. I love all sorts of beat-em-ups whether it's 2d or 3d. Also, "Lewis Cannon" is a hilarious name. I do agree about the post about changing the other characters names, though. Lewis Cannon and Rika Hyodo???

I haven't played an original (RCR EX, despite probably being my favorite beat 'em up ever, it was a remake so I don't count it as new) since like Viewtiful Joe and that was game was kinda different in its own ways. If this game is an oldschool revival of the (seemingly) long gone beat 'em up genre (I hate 3-D beat 'em ups, never played a good one) then I'm completely sold.
Nice grab Atlus.
