You need frames to work with, Paint, and anything to combine the frames, preferably a program that lets you choose the delay time of each frame. Then, you have to edit each frame and label it by it's position, preferably alphabetical order. Edit each frame so it's the proper position and the same exact size as the last. For the Jade spear animation, I did a painful process involving the intro video for the game... Later I might make one of the bridge exploding while Luke and Asche fight.

Anyone have any idea how the really long gifs are made, the ones with over 50 frames?? I really don't believe those were pieced together one frame at a time...
It may seem strange or whatever, but the way I transfer a video, for example the Jade/spear, is by loading a youtube video, pausing on each frame, taking a screenshot, editing it in Paint, then combining the frames with a gif animator. Please tell me this is how everyone does it.. >.>

Ouch. That sounds painful. There are many programs that let you convert you videos to gifs, you might want to google it for more details. For youtube/embedded flash videos you can use various firefox plugins. I don't know about internet explorer, though, since I'm typing from a Kubuntu distro.
