Hey,
Playing Eternal Poison, I couldn't believe how beautiful it is. I'm playing on my trusty PS2 hooked up to an HDTV via component and I'm in awe every time I see this game. While other SRPGs out there look like crap being all pixelated, low res and washed out (I'm looking at you Disgaea), Eternal Poison manages to impress me with its beautiful art and overall solid technical presentation. Even compared to the big hitters out there, this game is still a treat to look at. I can only imagine myself playing the Summon Night games... dreaming on;)

I like the art a lot, but I thought the actual game graphics were really ugly... Didn't do the art any justice at all. Gotta love opinions :p

The art in this game...yes, some parts do look wonderful, such as the characters. However when you get to the levels and the 3D portions it's really not that great.
Valkyria Chronicles can easily beat this in overall presentation for a SRPG, you need to play or look at more games...

Hey greydark,
Yes, Valkyria Chronicles is a really, really pretty game since it's running on the PS3. And it features a lot of genres combined together. I was talking about the traditional SRPG in the vein of Fire Emblem; Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics and many others of course. The classic isometric turn-based tactics battle system that many people adore. But even in a competition with Valkyria Chronicles, I'd still pick Eternal Poison because of the art and gameplay:)

i find the game to be pretty, loved the artbook that came with the pre-order, but for some reason, i find it hard to actually get into the game for very long.

Then it might help to clarify that in your topic, since just saying "other SRPGs look like crap" really covers a big area. Not to mention that not all games are designed to work with HD tvs, so saying they look like crap because of it isn't really that good a point. Disgaea is Disgaea, if you didn't like the sprites and pixels then you're kinda asking for it anyways.
Still, the gameplay of EP is pretty generic and only the character art is good, so I stand by my previous post that overall winner still goes to VC. VC isn't one of those big hitters either, so if you have a ps3, check it out.

Hey again greydark,
Disgaea is ugly and stupid. There, I've said it:) And the 3rd one especially is a joke. SNES games are capable of much more. Anyway, even though Valkyria Chronicles isn't your typical SRPG thanks to the action, do it yourself shooting mechanics, I will give it a try. Since you (and many others) are so passionate about it, there must be something to it. See you on the forum!

i agree with EP's beautiful artwork. i'm happy to see that there are still games that prioritize hand-drawn art ^_^
they're not only well-drawn and painted, but the designs are wicked too XD thanks atlus for giving the Librum Vesperia ^_^

I might be in a position to agree if this game ever gets released outside of the US and Japan.
