Anybody else catch Serph from Digital Devil Saga on the train in the opening cinematic?

Not asking for spoilers of course, and sorry I can't answer you, Ike, I don't wanna spoil P4 for myself, even if it does happen to be a little detail.

How do you tell foggy days from cloudy days? Apart from the obvious "foggy days makes it hard to see" thing.

What I posted isn't really a spoiler, just something to watch out for.

And I don't know. I haven't gotten that far yet. :( I had to drop in the middle of the first boss fight because I had to go to work.

It's Foggy after it rains.
So, the foggy day will be the day it Rains, Noticeable by the raining icon on the forecast.

I am going to like the Foggy Day Cycle opposed to P3's Full Moon Cycle

Sigh...When they said P4 was going to a bit harder than P3 I was glad, but now I see it's true colors: It's "The Answer" hard, and "The Answer" retarded.

I like playing tough games, and like having to use some strategy, but when bosses start being able to 2 shot everyone at once at half health, that's when things get stupid.

Oh yes, and now knocking down enemies doesn't do a thing besides set up all out attacks...Pretty useless to use weaknesses in boss fights to keep, say...A helper enemy from healing the boss now, good job.

So yeah, I guess I'm just going to start playing any new persona games on beginner mode now...I'd rather not, but there is no strategy or "chance to win" against a boss that goes "omg I'm at half health, AoE 200+ damage attack on everyone. You only have 100-140 hp max though? Too bad"

I know it's probably not Atlus USA's fault though, I'm not blaming them.

Just beat the first boss myself and it was simple enough. Though I haven't hit the first real dungeon...

Still, the dialogue in this game is great! I love some of the choices your character gets.

Do you have to go back to the start of the dungeons every time you want to save? I haven't seen a single save point inside one yet. Surely there is an easier way than back tracking to save and going all the way through it again to get where you where

Teddie give you an Item that will allow you to go back to the entrance. You can also buy them in the Shopping District (It is called GoH-M)

When you leave a Dungeon and reenter it you have an option of starting at floor 1 or the last floor you were on.

I really like the fact that this game has more than 1 dungeon like in P3.
Tartarus was cool but, I really wanted more than one simple tower dungeon.
This game offers a different dungeon for each of the foggy/sunny day cycles.

Oh okay thanks. I forced myself to the 10th floor fighting all the bosses on the way in one sitting and was running low on sp and items so I was getting worried I'd die and lose all that work

I think it's funny that you claim to like games where you have to use strategy to win and yet manage to completely skip over how the strategy in this game works.

You CAN stun enemies and make them lose their turn. You simply have to hit them in their weakness twice to do it. It's done this way specifically so you CAN'T just go "lol hit an enemy in his weakness every turn and he can't ever hurt me lol". You have to totally sacrifice your turn to do it now.

As for the enemies who do so much damage, it's called Buffs and Debuffs. A single Tarunda can cut enemy damage of all types by 25% or more. Stack that with Rakukaja and you can cut damage to almost nothing. And considering that even your starting persona has 2 buffs and a debuff, it should be pretty obvious what to do.

tl;dr: Learn how to play the game before you complain about the lack of strategy plz.

Hi there. I don't know if Atlus staff is reading this particular thread, but I had a bad disc when I got my game from Gamestop. The PS2 said "Please insert Playstation or Playstation 2 disc." After trying several other PS2 games that did work, I returned the game to Gamestop for an exchange. When I was there, the staff mentioned that another customer returned a bad game disc. I checked gamefaqs, and some people have been getting bad discs. So, there may be a problem with how the discs were pressed for some batches.

My second copy works now.

No, there is a limited number of in game days though.
Each in game day has an infinite amount of hours, except doing actions makes the day proceed on.

I got my persona 4 with pre-order artbook today sadly my guide book is comming a bit later the box my game came in seemed big enough for both the game, artbook and guide ah well I just like to say, "Thank you so much Atlus for bringing this over the pre-order artbook is very nice again thanks you guys for working on this game I give it a 10/10." =)

I also got the official design works artbook lots of nice sketches and stuff I can't wait to play P4 I only played a little of the first part I'm almost done with P3 so after that it's all P4 for awhile.

Becuase unlike in P3 there is no Stamina which mean you can explore the TV world for as much time as you want. In P3, your characters would get tired if you explored too long.

This game would be too easy if your HP and SP were healed after returning to the entrance.

Well you don't really need Max HP in the real world anyways. It automatically restores itself after you go to bed.

They gave you a warning. The you feel a presence behind the door, are you sure you wish to enter is a dead give away your going to be fighting a boss. The only real difference is that in persona 3 there was save points before all the boss mobs, even mini boss ones and here so far I have only see it on the real "boss" But I have only just finished the first castle so I dont know what the later areas are like.

I really like how the protagonist is a bit more belivable. I like how the mysterious voices cause him pain. I was always wondering if in P3 he was having any ill effects from a weird voice just messing with him. I always had the feeling he was going to go insane or something.
It's better with P4 to me.
I haven't succesfully saved Yukiko yet. Just on the 3rd floor I think. Are the social links good? I haven't really encountered any except the magician, fool, and chariot yet.

I really am loving this game so far, although the bosses are giving me a few problems, even on Beginner (in it for plot). I just need to level some. ^_^ The main part giving me problems are the ones with no weakness whatsoever where they have high HP. Its just luck/waiting it out.

One of my other problems is money, but I can always go train more or go to work for that...

Loving the game so far. Just cleared Kanji's dungeon, and I must say this challenge is a bit to adjust to. P3 had it's moments, but 4 does a lot better at keeping that feeling of desperation going. Whats more, Kanji's shadow had to be the first time since Legend of Dragoon that the guard command in an RPG was amazing. From one shot game over, to laugh it off and media? I'll be using that a lot more, that's for sure.

I do miss being able to choose my own weapon though. Sure, I'd probably use two handed swords anyway, but I liked that feature, every new game+ in P3 I'd use a different weapon.

Overall, P4 seems to be a most notably improved experience. There are a few elements that are gone from 3 I miss, but nothing that really harms the experience. I can see myself clocking in another hundred or more hours on it, that's for sure!

Just beat Yukiko's dungeon. I was right: I am so much more in love with this games cast than I ever was with P3s. They don't feel like the usual over-the-top anime archetypes you'd find in most JRPGs these day, they actually feel like people I know! Even Teddie has some great moments thus far and he's the most cartoonish of them all.

Personally, I like the fact that the MC just has a single weapon type this time. Having to select a favorite weapon from all the ones available in P3 was just too damn tedious. Yay for golf clubs! :D

So I tried playing the game in my 80 GB (MGS Bundle) PS3 today, but it had a problem. At the bottom right of the screen there were these two bars, one black and the other yellow, which remained empty. It wasn't until I put the game in my PS2 that I realized they were the location description bars. It's not that big of a deal, but this is enough to make me play it on my PS2 instead, which does stink just a little bit since I've been looking forward to using my PS3 again.

Oh well.

Im actually enjoying it more playing through it quickly. It helps that Ive got about five other games Im working on waiting in the back (Digital Devil Saga 2, Persona 2, Star Ocean First Departure (bonus dungeon), Growlanser III, Xenogears, lol..), but I also planned a New Game + for this one, and the only other game I ever did a New Game + on was Chrono Cross.

Also, I gotta enter the Luminous Arc 2 contest, but the plot is hard to get through its so dull compared to the first game. Im just not enjoying it much. Ive got Infinite Undiscovery at Xmas...

Finally, SO2 PSP comes out at the end of January.

I convinced my Mom to let me take a semester break from college classes (and considering our circumstances its easier if Im home to babysit anyway) so Ive got a ton of free time too lol

You can't get past the tutorial. It doesn't recognize that you've done what it tells you to do for some reason. But apparently there are save files out there you can download that are right after the tutorial. I opted to play on my PS2 instead.

which one did you get? or is there only one PTJ? I need it ASAP...in the game...I already have a FTJ in real life :P

Gen Eric Gui
12-15-2008, 04:45 AM
The only PTJ that increases Courage is the Hospital, which doesn't open until 5/25 and requires at least level 2 Diligence.

Other ways to boost Courage are to buy the "Men's Life" books from the bookstore and read them at night, or to eat strange things in the Fridge.

IIRC there's a meal at Aiya two times a week that boosts Courage, and their Rainy Day special boosts three random stats that are NOT Knowledge. So you should be able to boost it there too.

Yea.... that was a challenging Boss fight. D: I'm currently trying to defeat the Shadow Boss in the same area. On my first try (main levels at 15) I managed to get it down 3/4 health before the main character died. D:

hehe yaaa, battles are more fun because they added a ton of things. I especially like the new "1 more" system. In P3 it was too easy to win, just exploit a weakness and all out attack. But at least now if you want to keep enemies down theres more strategy involved.

How do you go on dates with the various girls? I got into a relationship with Yukiko, but I didn't have any date options. I recall one time after I maxed her social link, there was a SL icon above her. However, it didn't feel like a date, we just went back to the MC's home. Yes, yes I know. Anyway, is this the typical date in Persona 4? Just going back to the MC's home.

Also, what's the point of using Mind Charge/Power Charge? I know it increases your attack once, but wouldn't it be better to simply attack twice? Is the reason why so many people like this skill is for times when casting the spell twice costs more than Mind Charge/Power Charge + spell?

Sadly, the "dating" is nothing like it is in Persona 3, where you can give them presents and the sorts. At least for Yukiko it was, and I believe the same applies for Chie. Not sure about others though.

As your question about the charging. I've thought of that too. For example I noticed in a battle while using chie, doing the god's hand attack, she'd do about 250 dmg. But when I did a power charge before hand, it's about 530 dmg, which is roughly about doing the attack twice. However, if you have her power charge, and then use Heat Riser on her, her attack can go up to as high as 800 dmg. It really depends on how you do it. Some Personas are strong against physical attacks.

Im not sure what you're asking about in the last part though?

jin07
01-03-2009, 10:58 PM
Ah. That's unfortunate about the dating. I saw some of the dates in P3 and they looked like fun.

I was wondering if the reason why people like it is for powering up high SP spells. For instance, suppose you want to cast Niflheim on an enemy. You could:

1. Cast Niflheim twice: 48 + 48 SP
OR
2. Cast Mind Charge and then Niflheim: 15 + 48 SP

Both would probably do around the same damage. However, the 2nd options costs fewer SP. Hence, it would save you SP using Mind Charge.

Gen Eric Gui
01-03-2009, 11:16 PM
Mind/Power Charge increases the raw power of the attack by 2.5, so it's more than double the potential damage. So it's both cheaper AND potentially more powerful than just casting it twice(only potentially because the random modifier comes into play), especially when you get into the Mega-tier spells and things like Megidolaon.

Ah. Okay, thanks, that makes sense now. I thought it was a 2x boost since it says something like, "next attack will be twice as strong" in the description. A 2.5x boost explains why it's so highly regarded. I guess on my second run through I'll keep the charge skills.
