Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, if that's the case, mercilessly mock me.
Right, I know the games are entirely unrelated but since I haven't got around to playing FES yet, I want to make sure that there's no little references or subtle nods to the events of FES that may spoil that for me when I do play it.
Am I safe to start P4 next week?

If I remember correctly from what I've heard, there's *one* spoiler regarding Elizabeth's exit from P4, but that spoils the end of P3, not FES.

No, the actual statement regards something you don't see till FES. But that's a small spoiler in of itself so whatever yo.

^I agree, but I think Persona 4 will come out before you could finish the answer.

well if your in it only for the story, gameshark it. GAMESHARK IS NOT ILLEGAL! Many people seem to think it is.

How small is this spoiler? Heh

Yeah, I do have a complete original P3 save file but I wanted to complete it again with FES and all the social links before I played the answer, and there's never going to be enough time for that before P4!
I'm worried now :(

^hey dude, maybe you should just play Persona 4 as of the mean time. Yep, there is a minimal spoiler however its based on the journey. If you completed the journey, then you should do fine. :)

Even if you complete "the journey" you wont understand the P3 reference in P4 without playing "the answer" portion of FES. If you really don't have time to play, or refuse to gameshark it, then i can summerize FES: The Answer for you if you want.
Well, either way P4 is almost completely independent so even if you dont finish FES you'll enjoy P4 completely. The P3 reference is just to please the P3 veterans/fans i believe.
EDIT: sorry if it sounds like im opposing you Enzo, im not trying to; its not intentional.

Okay, gonna have a run through of the answer before P4 comes; I'm in the UK so I should have a couple of weeks which'll be OK to just do that part, I think!
Does anyone know of a decent P3 (the first part) plot summary, to remind myself what happened before I begin? If there's some kind of montage prior to the answer, then that's even better...
Thanks for all your help, people, spoilers are my biggest fear. Heh.

Here are your best options for a summary of P3. 1 - Youtube and search the user MasterLL, he has all the cutscenes from P3. 2 - i can sum it up for you in a few paragraphs.

It'd be awesome if you could do that - I only need the briefest of summaries, I'll probably remember most of it with prompting!
Only if you don't mind, though :)

I dont mind at all. However, i will summerize the game from start to end, so i hope you finished it :D.
Okay so basically, you are a transfer student that transfers to the city. You arrive during the dark hour at your dorm and meet 2 of your dorm mates. the dark hour is a hidden hour at midnight where everyone turns into a coffin and all technology ceases to function. the only reason why you and your friends are conscious during the dark hour is because you have persona abilities. After about a month at your new dorm you starting gaining new friends as well as allies with persona abilities. You then proceed to explore tartarus, a mysterious tower that appears only during the dark hour, with your newly found allies. As the months progress you fight "bosses" which are tough shadows on each full moon. Nearing the midpoint of the game you learn of another persona user group called Strega, they arent so friendly towards you and try to stop your full moon exterminations. More time passes, you defeat all the full moon "bosses" and assume the dark hour has come to an end. But to your surprise it continues the following night. You eventually learn that the dark hour and the shadows are a product of an experimental accident 10 years ago which seems to tie into everyone's past. The "bosses" you defeated were merely fragments that need to be collected. Soon after, a new transfer student joins your school, he is the herald that will host Nyx's arrival. Nyx is the final boss that has come to wipe out humanity. after many deaths, bosses, and Strega you and your team make it to the top of tartarus to stop Nyx. After defeating Nyx's avatar you alone fly off to face Nyx in the final battle. after the last battle you place "the great seal" on Nyx. The closing scene of Persona 3 is when everyone remembers their promise to meet on graduation day. All your teammates gather on the roof of the school where you and Aigis (the persona using robot) are. after a short cutscene it appears the protagonist (you) falls asleep.
FES picks up a few weeks after this point. Watching the cutscenes will help you jog your memory, they're hosted by MasterLL on youtube.
If i overlooked anything, please feel free to correct my summary.

Honestly, I don't think it's really that big a spoiler per se, at least based on what I've heard of how it's phrased in P4. It comes across as comedic and BUH? inducing (i.e., random) to someone who hasn't played FES... But since you're going to play The Answer anyway, good luck!
