I am aware the Japanese version came out, but were the game review sites handed a copy of the game beforehand?

P.S. Seems 1UP really really likes the game...

Most likely. That's how they usually do reviews AFAIK.

Depends what you mean by "copy." They don't have one like you'll buy in a box with the sleeve art, manual, soundtrack, etc. But they do have a disc with the full English version on it; otherwise, they could never meet their review deadlines, particularly print journalists.

I was gonna say that's crazy early for reviews to roll in. They never report until 1-2 days before or after the release date.

From what I remember for some RPGs they get the debug version so they can finish them faster too.

Sometimes they need that long to review the game, other times they have agreements with the company that prevents them from putting the review out until a couple days before.

I'm betting that it's the former in this case, but it might be a combination of the two.
