I looked under atlus's games, and saw drone wars on the list.
I got to thinking, Didnt atlus have a hand in Chaos wars?

For those who dont know, It was namcoxcapcom, except with 5 different companies inside. Ps2 tactics game. The thing that really made me want it was the inclusion of characters from gungrave (grave and mika), But there were some atlus characters in there as well.

I play atlus games on the ds mostly, but I do own a few ps2 titles.

If anyone knows this game, Let me just say, I enjoyed the voice acting.
It wasnt very good, but at least it wasnt Johnny yong Bosch doing it.
I am so sick of his voice. Hes no steve blum, despite attempts to be.

So yeah, chaos wars yayyyyyyyy.

Atlus USA probably looked at it and (wisely) avoided it like the plague.

The game's supposedly nothing special, and the dub work seems to have dethroned Castle Shikigami 2 as having the worst voice acting ever.

How does it compare to the likes of Disgaea, FF Tactics, Luminous Arc, etc.? I like SRPGs but tend not to play more than one of them at once, and I'm currently heavily invested in LA2. I could however pick up Chaos Wars while it's cheap in town - I've known about it for a while, and the inclusion of Gungrave characters like Grave and Mika is also a big plus in my mind. I've heard a rumor that there are additional ones like Bunji Kugashira, but I fear stumbling across spoilers while looking to confirm that - yes, for any game, I like to avoid spoilers. Anyhow, I've already brought a truckload of games recently - but I *do* have the cash for another if it is solid enough.

I enjoyed the voice acting.

I enjoy hammering nails into my ears too...but only if the nails have a gay accent.

I regret the buy. Oh, do I regret the buy. While the concept of a cross over is interesting, the developers who did this did a horrible job.

Voice acting on both English and Japanese was bad. They both were really flat and had no emotion in their voice to emulate the character's personality. The volume was very flaky. I kept adjusting the volume just to hear the bear minimum. I couldn't play it past the first dungeon. It now sits, collecting dust, in my drawer. It's not even worth the trade in, as GameStop wouldn't take it.

Don't buy it, and save a life.

Your own.

I bought it, just because. Like another Atlus Faithful, I also support bad translations (better than a slap in the face).

Game itself kinda sucked though. You could say I own it for the LuLz (ok ban me now)

Yeah, I think I'll...skip it. Definitely.

Yeah, anyone who is even considering buying this would be better off just burning their money instead. Less net loss of wealth that way.

And to be honest, I didn't actually have that much of a problem with the voices(Although they WERE the worst voices I've ever heard in a product I paid money for), but the game itself is just plain awful. I'd rather play Hydelyde.

How can I stay calm!?!?

Aww man. I enjoy it, I guess I'm the minority.
I just like anything with Grave in it haha.

Has anyone here also played drone tactics?
I consider that game to be less fun than chaos wars, But I might be in reverse again?

I have a peve for people who can't speak intelligently without profanities (or profanities you can't even see... even more pointless...).

P.S. Atlus had absolutely nothing to do with Chaos Wars.

I have a peve

Normally, I don't do this... but you're asking for it!

Well the Atlus admins should be pleased now. For the first time, someone actually appreciates the profanity filter.

Personally I'm more offended by the guy who said "GAY ACCENT" but you don't see me throwing a fit.

And apparently some people have a peeve for people who can't spell. Maybe you should drop the holier-than-thou attitude.

Hey guys, let's cool it a little.

I'm not going to single anyone out, but I have always found criticism of intelligence lacking when poor grammar comes into play. Kind of calling the kettle black huh?

Anyway, let's all talk about the magic crapfest that is Chaos Wars. Also, please note System Error's comment. I was going to bring this up earlier, but meh.

Eh, I call everyone guy. It's true that I hear more and more girls use "gay" as an insult these days though.

I'm not sure why people are "pissed" that Chaos Wars came out. You buy it or you don't. If O3 goes under because of it, that's even funnier.

What?? I just fired it up last night and saw atlus in there.
Is it like me saying Kojima had a hand in brawl?
Im very bad when it comes to things atlus is in vs things atlus has done lol.

Ahhh my threads just seem to cause rage. What am I doing wrong?

Futomimi
12-02-2008, 10:02 PM
It says Atlus because it uses characters from the Growlanser series, and Atlus brought over some of the Growlanser games to the US originally. They didn't program, translate, or bring over Chaos Wars.

Also, Nice gungrave picture josh!

If you have a fetish for certain characters, it's a fun game. I fulfilled a number of character fetishes playing this game... my Yuri fetish, my Carmaine fetish, my Hiro fetish, my 'cute girl who teleports everything including the kitchen sink as her special attack' fetish, and my Shinsengumi fetish (not the game, but the historic people).

I didn't find it to be any worse than a number of srpgs that have come over in the past few years... though I do think that they drew too much from the various games... it was like having things just randomly dumped in there to advance the story in a very haphazard way. Though, that in itself had a small redeeming entertainment value for people who like a bit of randomness in their lives.

Its not a stellar game, not really a good game, but I am glad I bought it. My advice though is to use a walk through to play it the first time so you can get all the characters, because you won't get a third of them without the walk through. Also, if I remember right, you can change the voice and music volumes in the options menu if you are having issues hearing the voices.

I did the same, mainly to see how the inclusion of the Shadow Hearts characters went.

Man, was I surprised.

If I recall correctly, some of the voice actors share the same family name with the voice casting director. I don't like to assume, but I can probably guess what happened.
