I picked it up on Black Friday for $9 and so far consider that money well-spent.
I like to avoid guides and their kin due to spoilers; therefore, let me ask here...are there any permanently missable items, quests, confinable demons, etc.?

GameStop. I kid you not. Unfortunately, their prices deviate from store to store. I saw it in another town today for $17 used (whereas it was $9 new at my local store).
Anyhow, I'm going to assume that there's nothing major that is missable but explore carefully regardless.

I got it for $9 at a GameStop too. It had multiple layers of 'used' stickers on it that I was unable to peel off (it's a gift) so I'm going to replace my perfectly good copy with this one so my friend won't think I'm a cheapskate.

Wow, you are awfully nice. XD
Why not just go find a new box somewhere and take out the paper from inside the old box plastic sleeve and put it on the new box? :s
EDIT: Unless you are talking about the stickers being on the disc.. If so, then that's sick and shame on gamestop!

I'm not sure the $10 price was really a Black Friday special - I vaguely recall picking it up new there for the same price.
Given how far the first Persona games have seen their prices spike, I imagine it'll probably be a reasonable long-term value.

^- Could be. However, I bought the last copy - haven't seen it anywhere recently. So, I'm glad I snagged it when I did. It has been pretty awesome so far, especially for the cost (but then, $9 for even an average game - let alone an Atlus game - is often a good deal).

Go to your local Office Depot or Wal-Mart or whatever and pick up a bottle of Goo-Gone. They sell it pretty much everywhere and it dissolves the adhesive on stickers. Plus, it smells like oranges.

I found a complete copy at EB to replace the disc I have in some flimsy white sleeve. $8.99!

I got mine a while back "new" for $9.99 but it was the display copy so the box was a little beat up. Everything else was perfect though

I've been meaning to check out this game myself, ever since I've seen the awesome boxart. Good to know about the price drop.

I'm just reading stuff about it, but it seems the Devil Summoner series is basically the original Megami Tensei games, though instead of just recruiting demons in a post-apocalyptic world, you also have to actively support them through talking so you can control them in a modern-day setting. The Raidou Kuzunoha entries moved this into a real-time action game though.

:) No, not shame on game-stop. The reason why the game probably cost 17 dollars used, and 9.99 new was because New Sales prices are changed by the selling company that lets us sell the game, while the used price is based on demand, rarily, etc.
Now the used price is down to 8.99, and the new is still 9.99.

I just played an hour or so of this last night. I LOVE the style, the music, and the premise.
I do not quite understand two things:
1. Say it with me everyone: MENU screen = TRIANGLE (or start)! Let's come to a consensus about that. Why the SQUARE button is calling the menu screen, I will never know. Actually, that was the first time I had to look at a Manual in a while... erk.
2. Do I just attack to weaken and capture by killing the circle button? Are there traps or equipment that can help kill or lessen that mutton mashing later? I also notice I have a "Magic" stat for Raidou. Does he cast spells, or is this a way he lends strength to his summoned Demon?
Thanks,
raum

The only thing I didn't like about the game was the length. I know a lot of people disliked the battle system, but that was no problem I just wanted the game longer.

1. I'm used to triangle being for menu too, but I learn quickly I guess.
2. Weakening them down will help you out quite a bit in capturing them. If you try to capture them at full health, you will definitely be beating the crap out of your circle button.

Oh, so just because i can contain them by screen indication doesn't mean I have to yet.
Ok, now this will make sense alot more. Thanks! (and now, that seems obvious! heh)

Square's been the menu button all the way 'til P3 and P4...
I like menu being on square and mini-map being on triangle better. Every time I play P4 I forget where my map is.

I have attempted to get a strong demon once while they were full health, but I sure beat that circle button like there was no tomorrow to get him, and I remember a character in game (I believe the soda bar) said that lowering their health will make capturing easier.
I can't find a copy of this game at all in Northeast OH! I checked out 10 different Gamestops. One said it was suppose to have it, but didn't! Although, they did have a used copy of Nocturne which I wanted as well...

Get it online - they're plentiful still. I don't know if they're getting marked up yet though. I got a used copy on Ebay for $20.
I really wish I'd played this when it was new! Its actually quite fun. I'm now really hyped for AK.
You MAG stat affects how much your summons cost and increases their power. As for the demon catching, don't try to catch one that's higher level either or it will instantly fill again.
I've got a question - does it ever get easier to get money? I really want to play with demon fusions more, but not when the compendium is that pricey.

Later on in the game you earn more slightly, but not much to make a big impact. I understand what you're saying too, as I always end up having the money I make go towards treatment and healing items. The old man at Konnya likes to rip people off. I was hoping after spending so much he'd give a discount, but that has yet to happen for me.
Money grubbin old man....
EDIT: Almost forgot, don't forget to check your items from time to time, as there are stuff you can sell to him that will fetch some good amount of cash. Many he will give you 10,000 to 20,000.

Wow final boss is annoying as heck. I died at the last part! Seriously there should be a limit to long how a boss fight is....
Too bad the hype for the new game is making people go crazy on eBay. All of them are up over $40, and Amazon isn't any better.

Really? Before people were lucky to even get $15 for their copy on ebay. However, most of them were sealed back when I was looking at them.

Yeah, those are new sealed ones that been there for ages now. I see some that are near mid 30s with 16+ hours left. Most likely they'll hit the 40 dollars mark. SMT is one of the few franchises I know where you can sell a used copy for price of a new game.

Wow, that much?
I'm actually playing my friend's copy and I do love it. I can't wait for the sequel and apparently that's going to be just as or even rarer than RK vs SA.
Sigh.
I've been trying to find a second-hand copy of RK vs SA at EB, however Canadian Gamestop/EB locations seem to lack the magical inventory of used SMT that exist in the American counterparts.
Hopefully, an Atlus will do reprint. Come on guys, between now and May is as good time as any!

The Franklin Mills Mall in Northern Philadelphia has both used and new copies (some SEALED) of Devil Summoner 1 at three different stores as of 6pm this Sunday. The Gamestop + Game Store + Game Trader stores also had Nocturne, DDs1 DDs2, and persona 3, FES, and Persona 4, and none were full price.
I asked and some emps said they sometimes accept payment over the phone and ship. There were kids working, so who knows - but you can try. It's an outlet mall, and the one with the arcade Army recruiting station. That place is AWESOME, huge comfy tournements, and tons of rigs with media chairs and simulators.
(and they have a rule - you have to register to play on comps or consoles, and they don't talk military till you ask - and they sell fatigues and gear. I am an oldish vet, so I had no problem with that. jus sayin)
