View Full Version : To anyone who has played Poké Mystery Dungeon 1 / 2...

All right, I'm considering spending precious money on this game.
So! I would like to know from those who've played both Izuna 2 and a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game (which I played and enjoyed some time ago):
- What does Izuna 2 execute better / worse during battle? (e.g. Is the tag team system useful, are levels worth more than items/equipment, will I die a lot, will I enjoy the game anyway, etc.)
- Is there a significant post-game? Bosses, challenges, and rewards galore? I appreciate story modes, always, but post-games can often elevate a title to 'legendary awesome' status.
- Are the characters or plot events humorous and/or interesting? This is purely subjective, but I find laughter goes a long way toward boosting my opinion of an RPG...roguelike or otherwise. As for PMD, 'twas a solid story and the ending was powerful, more so than I anticipated. So, I wouldn't mind another in kind.
Thanks much to anyone who answers. I appreciate it. =)

Chunsoft are in a league of their own when it comes to roguelike games... but Success did fairly well with the Izuna series IMHO.
The game's humor is one of its biggest selling points, if you ask me. There's nothing deep or epic, just a good old time.
I like the world map that Izuna 2 has over Izuna 1, instead of being set in the same town all the time. But of course PMD already had that.
The tag team IS useful especially when it comes to your main character dying. Purists will say that this defeats the purpose of the genre though!
Grinding/leveling up will make the game easier, but I'm fine with it. It makes all the difference when it comes to fighting bosses. Again, purists...
I actually haven't beat Izuna 2 yet (not really planning on it either), so I don't know of any post-game content (there is definitely some though). Just head to GameFAQs and check out the guides there for your answers...

Okay, thanks much! ^_^ Between your comments and a selection of information tidbits from GameFAQs, I've decided to give Izuna 2 a shot. I can always use another DS game to play at university since I have significant downtime between classes. I can handle grinding just fine - I did play Maple Story, which features hardly anything else, for months - and I liked the roguelike style the first time I tried it. This game sounds like it ought to satisfy once again, based on what you and a few others have relayed to me. Again, thanks much. I'll pick Izuna 2 up soon.

I think you can still get the Amazon poster too, cooler than the GS one and far more rare. DO I seem obsessed with this?

I ordered from amazon and had better receive that poster, simply because I demand all bonuses that come with any video game I purchase. I won't put the poster up in my house, though. o.o;; While I've no problem with Izuna's "assets" (cheers, Atlus) I do keep my walls E for Everyone. I'll keep the poster with my other Atlus goods like my Luminous Arc 2 artbook and upcoming Persona 4 bonuses.
UPDATE: The game arrived today. I did get the reversible cover art - but no poster. Just decided I wanted to relay this information along: apparently the exclusive poster is out of stock.

I don't use Amazon anymore, they're always 'out of stock'.
