I wonder if Atlus would ever sponsor some sort of tournament? Has anyone ever talked about this in the forums before? I can't recall having seen it in the past year or so, not even with Lumionus Arc. It might be nice to see about getting up a group in the forums or through the Faithful somehow to do this. Why not chime in Forumians? Let Atlus know what you think.

Dude, we don't need Atlus to make a tournament :P You can just organize it yourself in this very forum and hope people participate. If you do make one, and people don't participate, we could recruit some people :P GameFAQS people seem like the most logical choice...
I'd be glad to join after I beat the game.
Are levels set when playing online, but you have all the skills you've learned in your game? Or is it a "You better hope you're around the same level as your opponent, lulz"? I can't remember how it was in the original...I think I did one (or two) WiFi battles, and it seemed to lag for me.

Well, here's what I am thinking. Atlus makes the tourney and offers prizes. Its good PR and if its worked within the Faithful and forums, it gives folks more of a reason to pay attention to the Atlus scene.

It was a randomized sample of the Atlus Faithful subscribers.
I'm not opposed to the idea at all, but I doubt I would participate. Really not my thing. I could definitely see others really enjoying something like this, though. Good luck guys.

The only problem is that SRPG are the LEAST conducive genre towards holding a tournament. Since in the end, the matches really just come down to "who has grinded their characters higher/gotten better equips".

I'm pumped for the tournament if there is one! After spending some more time with the game, it's definitely much more enjoyable than the original ever was; unfortunately, I haven't gotten the WiFi thing yet XD I haven't played too much...maybe six hours?

Advance Wars seems to be able to do it just fine. There would just have to be rules on what levels your characters are, and limits on items and equipment. Like in Advance Wars, some characters might be restricted in multiplayer environments.

Uh, Advance Wars isn't an SRPG. Not even close.

It's a tactical game, like the old Panzer General games, basically.

A straight up "War Game" or tactical simulation right?
ANYWAY, the real story here is that we got our tournament people. Check over at the Manly Biceps posting!

They're pretty much the same thing to me, honestly XD I guess it's one of those things like when people think destiny and fate are one in the same.
Not to get into semantics or anything.

The difference is in the approach. LA, and SRPGS (or TRPGS) revolve around the characters you're familiar with getting down there and fighting. You level them, they get skills, they individually can die.
In a tactical sim type game, you're controlling units, but they're all faceless. The only characters that matter don't really fight. There's really not an "rpg" part to those games, aside from occasional levelling.
That's where the differences lie to me.
