I was thinking since Persona 2: Eternal Punishment got a reprint why not the first one?

I seriously, seriously doubt it will be, but I'd buy it since it's the only one I'm missing.

... why not the first one?

It was a pretty terrible localization, that's why. I'm sure the company line is to stand proudly behind all their work, but behind closed doors, I'm sure everyone just wants to quietly forget Atlus USA had anything to do with the localization of Persona.

Sei

I'd probably pick it up even though I already own it to support... uhm.. terrible localizations that have the plot changed to something ridiculous and a significant part of the game cut off as well as some random minorities introduced for their own sake...?

Actually... maybe not.

I'd love a proper translation though.

It's a lot easier to just reprint a game you've already done all the work on than it is to start up a whole new localization process and go through the process of getting the game rated by the ESRB.

I made one repetitive thread with Valkyria Chronicles and I searched the forum before I posted this and saw this thread http://atlus.com/forum/showthread.php?t=796&highlight=persona. That post asks for a psp game and a remake of Persona, not a reprint. But whatever I didn't know this game had such a poor localization.

That it was such a good game is probably the reason so many people are upset at Atlus's terrible job. It was par for the curse for it's time, though, I guess.

A lot of the changes are described at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revelations:_Persona . You may, or may not like it if you liked P3 and P2. It's.. really different. Especially the dungeons (they are first person in that one)

Wasn't this supposed to be a "chance" or something to let those who didn't play it check it out?

This isn't what I call a chance to relive a classic. This is simply some ole' bull####.

CONTROL! CONTROL! CONTROL! If you guys wanna reprint a game in limited quantities...don't let any one single buyer snag more than one copy. It's THAT simple.

Alright...originally I was extremely hesitant and greedy with posting this...but, I'll be honest. I already have fresh copies of EP and IS...and really, just wanted another sealed copy fresh from Amazon to look purty on my shelf, and fast too. ^^;;

Seeing that makes me almost as much of a douchebag as the resellers...I'll share my private goldhouse. I intended to keep this site to myself since it sells some really rare ####...buuut, I'm pretty certain I got everything I wanted.

That is good to hear. Suikoden II is my favorite game of all time (have to replay that) even though it didn't have the best localization but then again it wasn't too bad or anything like I am hearing about Persona. But yea I am sure there are plenty of people who would like to see a Persona reprint despite the localization.

Ugh, I would not shop there. Maybe QBasic has had different experience then I did, but I ordered from them before and they were the absolute worst. I emailed them to make sure they had a game I wanted in stock before I ordered and they said they did. So I ordered and was then told they didn't have it in stock and would try to track it down. I emailed them multiple times trying to cancel my order and when they finally responded it was just to tell me I couldn't cancel because they were now shipping my game, a month after I ordered it. When I got it it looked like someone had stomped on it. It took another month to get a refund from them. Absolutely horrible.

At the release of DDS1 , so in 2005 if i remember correctly. Long story short, the charge on my Visa was apparently on hold for some reason. Thing is , when i call a representative of Visa and after i receive my account summary , it appear that the charge did pass . In the end, i got the game 2 week after it's release even if i preorder it . What really happen ? Hard to say; all i know is I a don't have the patience to deal with Amazon representative anymore.

GAH! I really wanted this Persona 2 reprint badly and I missed it! My copy no longer works and the cheapest I can find this is far more then I want to pay for an old PS1 game. :/

$39.99 NEW would have been a complete steal...../sigh back to looking I guess. Note to Atlus, tell Amazon to limit the amount to one per order if its going to be limited in quantity so buyers won't hoard the damn things and sell them on eBay for 200% markup. It won't completely solve the problem but it will let others get a chance.

Jesus! I didn't even get a chance to order this at all.

Yeah ... I'm one of those who registered on the forums to ask "why?"

Why brighten my day with an email informing me of a reprint, only to make a very measly (estimated by some) 1000 available?

Atlus people ... if you're reading this, I think it's clear the demand for this game is super high. It does you no good to have it ultra-rare. You don't gain anything from it.

So I highly suggest, and humbly ask, that you consider releasing it on the PlayStation Network for download. I (and others) probably wouldn't even care if you made it available at the $40 you were charging via Amazon.

From Onion of Mystery's sticky topic:

"...localizing old Atlus games for release on VC wouldn't make us any money, so there's almost no chance of it happening."

I think PSN might apply to that as well, but I'm not sure. Like for Nintendo's Virtual Console, I don't believe Atlus has a say in which games are selected for the PSN.

Mmm... I don't see how that could possibly be the case. First and foremost, there's no need to "localize." The game's already been localized. It requires no extra work, no additional cost. No media to print, no shipping to be handled. It's all profit. I think he was probably referring to the cost benefit of localizing a game that hasn't been translated then releasing.

But that's all besides the point. I came here to rant again (!). I was just at Amazon and they showed they had a few Persona 2's available. Hoping they were given more and it wasn't just some fluke I quickly jump to order one, but by the time I submit my C.C. info, they're gone! Garh.

I really feel like Atlus ought to have said, "We're taking pre-orders for a day and that'll be how many we print out and ship." Would have been a much kinder way of doing this.

Admittedly, there are still problems -- I don't know much about the publishing of games, but if it's anything like print publishing, you're going to have a minimum number you can order in one run, and possibly can only increase in certain increments from there. But I imagine that it would at least help gauge demand a bit better.
