You won't be missing a portion of the story. You won't get some in-game references, but those won't be from the main story arc.

Dates that are given as "release dates" are usually shipping dates.

Good, that gives me one more day to finish LA1. I'm pretty sure that I'm near the end of the game. I'm up to chapter 22, and I really want to finish it in time for the release of the sequel. Of course, my local eb games in Canada tends to get games a bit late, so I may have even more time to finish it, considering that I should finally be able to pick up my copy of EP tomorrow.

If the sequel is anything like the first, it'll be awesome. I picked up a copy of LA shortly after the sequel was announced, and I'm loving it. I only wish that I picked up my copy a long time ago, as I decided to pass on it when it was first released. Oh well, at least it will be fresh in my mind when I play LA2. And I pre ordered the Atlus spoils, so hopefully I get a copy of each of the artbooks, especially Luminous Art(I think that's a clever pun).
