Flight plan's latest game. Scans are in the latest famitsu

-Strategy RPG
-Polygonal characters on an isometric grid
-Developed and published(?) by Flight-Plan
-Seems like they got the Summon Night artist to do the character designs this time.

I don't know anything specific about the in game systems at the moment but FP has never released a title that was anything less than solid.

Do want as well!

Here's more information: http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20081031/sb.htm (Japanese, but there's screenshots).

It's done by the Summon Night team, so I have great expectations for it. *o*

I'm totally preordering it when I get the chance (and find my Play-Asia coupon).

It is for the Playstation 2
Released February 19th, 2009.

I would be very surprised if this made it here.

I'm curious why FP decided to make the jump to 3D in a grid-based SRPG. 2D sprites fit that genre better IMO.

Hayato

This isn't their first foray into 3D srpg. Don't forget about Poison Pink (Eternal Poison) now. :>

I don't really think the graphics are particularly important to the genre. As long as the camera angles don't make you want to shoot yourself in the head, it should be fine?

Zachalmighty

With the failometer of the PS3 currently at epic fail level it seems that this would be more likely than a PS3 title. The PS2 is still live and well!

Hayato
11-03-2008, 02:12 PM
...what?

And I'd refrain from making comments like "the PS3 is a failure" in threads not directly related to that type of discussion, if I were you. Besides the general consensus that stating opinion as fact is an easy way to write yourself off as a fool in the eyes of others, it's not particularly welcoming to see that sort of poison polluting a topic that has nothing to do with it.

All right guys Nis America got the Prinnies and we need a mascot for the SRPG genre so the kitties aka Familiar will be the mascots.

Huh, now you've got me all confused. XD;; I'll have to check it if I've still got the game kicking around somewhere.

Anyway!

Basic premise of the game seems to be a rather typical one. The world's been engulfed by darkness, the forces of evil have taken over most of the land. What little land that hasn't been conquered by monsters, people spend their lives living in fear, etc. However! A god (that's you, the player) has been awakened from eons of sleep and it's your job to guide the heroes in taking back the world. :>

The system is typical SRPG fare. There are special abilities (if you can even call them that) you can take advantage of as a god, though. My kanji reading is very poor so I might be mistaken in some of this, but as far as I can tell there's four different powers you can employ. One of them allows you to intervene in battles and give blessings to your troops (but this is limited by a point system). The second ability allows you to control the development of a unit, and the third involves... some sort of prayer system. It looks like your people pray to you (about their problems and such), and you have to deal with them. In order to be able to give blessings, you have to have [points] and you have to answer prayers.

The fourth... looks like it has to do with in-battle stuff. Rather than using a character's SP, you drain the remainder of [that point system] and the character gets a power up. When you do that, the character's faith in god increases and as a result, your max cap. for [that point system] increases.

This sort of looks like it was ported from the DS to the ps2. It looks like something that Atlus might release if it was a DS game.

I will never understand the obsession with graphics. :V Oh well.

Looked around a bit, and found that TMB put up the information from that article. It's a lot clearer than my interpretation, so. Repost!

The game will have a Master & Servant system, as the god you will find warriors in the land and give them power. Each warrior will have his/her own stories and each will have his/her own colleagues. The master can summon servants in battle and raise his own combat capability; servants will be able to learn master's skills. Some of the Master & Servant pairs include:

* Lord X Knight
* White Mage x Familar (servant mage)
* Sacred Priest X Animus (holy spirit)
* Dousi Master X Ressi Fighter
* Minstrel X Dancer
* Adventure-Trader X Wingbird (Hawk)
* Bulcannus X Robot

During battles, the god can intervene with four unique abilities:

* Miracle - heal, evade attacks and create opportunities
* Prayer - help solving the warrior's concerns and problems
* Oracle - character can learn new abilities
* Oath - character's stats will be boosted for a long time

I suppose that point system I mentioned previously would be "Miracle Points", then.

The battle screens sure look similar to Jeanne d'Arc to me. I could just be imagining things, because Flight-Plan and Level-5 are totally different animals.

Although I am sick to death of Strategy RPGs (considering thats 80% of whats on the market-- one reason Im looking forward to Persona 4 is its turn based) I would rather have something else, but I am really liking the chibi style compared to Eternal Posion which didn't sit well with me. =/

I hope to play this game in US (I won't be able to otherwise), since we didn't get the chance to play the Summon Night on PS2. Graphics doesn't look that great, but I know that SRPG doesn't need that to be good ! Hope this is the case on this one.

I've just turned off the PS2 after playing this for a bit. While I still prefer Dragon Shadow Spell (and I know I shouldn't be comparing both that early in the first place), the first few battles show me what I feared the most: this game is awesome. >___>

As if I didn't have enough localizations to pray for, now I'm dying for an english version of this as well. Please, Atlus, put an end to my suffering! And bring DSS along with it, there's still time. ;__;

I SO AGREE TO THAT.

I have not played that far yet but ohhh... I love the game! It's so adorably cute and awesome, seriously fun to play, I'm not that fond of SRPGs, but this one is just too awesome to not like it! :D Oh Atlus, please bring it over... <3

Holy crap, it reminds me of Jeanne D' Arc, but with 3000X better character art and design.
