View Full Version : Will EO3 go console, stay DS, or go multiplatform?!

I'm getting a little ahead of myself here, but what do you as an Atlus lover hope that Etrian Odyssey goes to next?

Me, I'm hoping we get a wii and DS one. I mean, there's only two good RPG's for the Wii and neither are straight up turn based.

I'd rather it stick to the DS.

:agree:
Let it stay exclusive to the DS.

EO works perfectly as a game on the DS.
On a console, I'm not sure how it would work out. They would have to change the mapping feature, that's for sure.

It might be playable, even fun, but I'd play it a lot more often as a portable game where I can play bits on the go than sitting in front of the TV for hours upon hours playing the same game.

I just hope that when they make a new one perhaps it could have an overworld with caves/towns leading to dungeons. SMT style.

I'd like to see the cool 2d creatures as 3d models on a current gen system. Also an awesome detailed forest to explore. It's just as or more interesting than most bigger hyped rpg's on the consoles, it would hold it's own, and even win agaisnt other rpg's. You'd lose the touch screen but the same sort of thing could be done with a controller setup, probably.

I would prefer it remains 2D, i.e. Wizardry-like, instead of a change for change's sake.

I think the Etrian Odyssey series should stay on the DS.

It's kinda odd. These days, I find myself sinking more time into my PSP and DS rpgs since I can play them on the go. It's gotten to the point where if I own a game on the PS2, and then it gets a PSP release, I generally end up buying the PSP release and subsequently beating it since I can play it more spread throughout the entire day.

That being said, for an RPG like Etrian Odyssey, I would be crushed if it moved onto another system because there would be no way in hell I could find the time to play and or beat it.

Pretty much the same here, lately I've found that I have been playing more often on portable systems than on home consoles. So I'm glad that alot of good RPGs are being released on portable systems.

No kidding. Too many games change just for the sake of change; the "old-style" games are a dying breed. And that makes it a real shame, since it's those older games that i'm drawn to. I will admit, that I've not been getting Atlus games for too long, it was the old-fashioned style of EO1 that got me looking at more of their games. So now I'm stuck scrambling for some of the older titles, paying scary premiums for some, but now there are just so many preorders out that I don't have time to play much unless they're portable. I guess this means I want EO3 to stay to the DS. (Not to mention that I can't see the mapping system working on any other system...)

I think the creator of Etrian Odyssey is working on another game now, and since EO2 didn't sell as well as the first there might not be an EO3 at all.

Huh? Where'd you hear that? NPD doesn't give out that information. Unless you're talking about Japan, in which case you're incorrect.

My bad. You are right it did sell more in japan. Maybe we will see it on the next nintendo handheld which would be cool.

The creator of EO didn't work on EO2 in the first place though, he'd already left to make his own company by then. Game sold good enough. I dunno how it did here, but I imagine it didn't bomb.

It should stay on the DS! And be announced really soon!

I think a PS2 version could work, probably in the vein of Wizardry: TotFL, which is basically EO only much, much darker.

I would also like EO to stay on the DS. It's really nice being able to play it when I'm out somewhere or on long trips. This is why I was really happy to see the "suspend" feature added in EOII (and left me a bit puzzled as to why it wasn't in the first one...).

I'd like it to stay DS but add some animation to the enemies a'la Dragon Quest.

Tivor
12-20-2008, 03:55 PM
Yeah, some animation on the monsters would be nice. (no 3D though. 2D hand-drawn art all the way.) And maybe more variety in environment, etc.

But the game is great as is. Manual mapping is one of the best features of the game, and there is no platform other than DS that can pull it off as nicely.

He went to work on 7th Dragon.

I think EO should stay on DS, but something tells me it will only be two games. For one thing, EO1 has you going DOWN a dungeon labyrinth and EO2 has you going up. What's EO3 going to have you do, go sideways??

Yeah I say let it stay on the DS. I like the idea of being able to explore the overworld and make it more free roaming. Such a great game, although if Atlus was smart they would make it for other systems such as the PS2. Could it work for the Wii? Of course you would have to get people to buy it for the Wii...

I know it sounds sad and kind of defeats the purpose, but if they make a third one, I'd like to see some kind of multi-player added. Perhaps trading items with friends or multi-player only quests where you have to find certain locations or kill a set amount of monsters. It just stinks trying to sell these games to people only to see that they want something RPG-like with multi-player.

^I kind of agree. I wouldn't mind a small multiplayer dungeon or some other multiplayer features.

DS plz. Map drawring plus reliable sleep mode = win (so as long as the game gets an overhaul and not more of the same as the first two even if I'll be buying it regardless ... :|)

Yea i would like to see some multiplayer added...not sure how it would work though...but it would be fun to have some kind of help added be it some items only available through online trading or some increase in stats or skill points or something to help and having it post-game would probably be best..so we can enjoy the main game then worry about multi afterwards

Leave EO to the DS...

Lol, it's just that this game is just great to play when i'm at work during lunch time, or when I arrive too early in the morning. The quicksave was a great idea in the second game (which I started last week). Like someone mentionned, it would be nice in a 3rd game to see more than one town and dongeon. You could put a few dongeons here and there, and have towns with different features. Maybe a bit more storyline also.

And please... less forest :P

Yes: leave Etrian Odyssey on the DS (it's all about mapping).

And I agree: put some online features. Maybe not multiplayer (I don't see how that would happen), but definitely item trading and/or stats, like how far in the labyrinth you have reached and the percentage mapped, number of creatures encountered, number of weapons unlocked, etc. It would create a great network community! And may I suggest even map postings? I'm not sure if that would work on the game, since discovering the labyrinth's layout is the essence of the game, but maybe a separate labyrinth for online play...

DS is the best choice. How else are you gonna draw your map?
3-D looks nice but a game like EO... i dunno.

If there is an EO3, I expect/hope that it will be for the DS because the mapping was a big part of the game.

If Atlus develops a first-person dungeon crawl for a console, it will probably be an SMT game for the Wii. Kazuma Kaneko expressed interest in working on such a game in this 2006 interview. (http://www.hardcoregamer.com/index.php?Itemid=29&id=96&option=com_content&task=view)
