View Full Version : Dumbest things you've ever done in a game?

Mistakes, oversights, just things that you've done in games that you'd really rather have forgotten ever happened.
The most recent example for me would be be attempting to land on an enemy airfield and crashing several times in a row in Blazing Angels 2 because I forgot to lower the landing gear first. :very_sad:

Not that I ever planned on getting it, but I was pissed when I found out that you can only get the Zodiac Spear by not opening certain chests in FFXII. Yeah, thanks for screwing the people who like finding treasure, SE! >=(

^ It's not that bad if you see what the treasure is, it's like 5 gil and knots of rust, not very important things.
Anyway, when I was playing I Wanna Be the Guy... Ah screw it, everything I did in that game was a stupid mistake. XD
Anyway, to seriousness. I was playing Under the Knife 2 last night... Had it on skip 'cause I just wanna beat it, so I didn't realize... I guess it could count as a spoiler so I didn't realize I had to replace the pacemaker I just installed so I was just like "...Umm, what's going on, eh?" So I got bored and started stabbing around. Until one of the stabs solved the problem... but it was too late 'cause I had 5 seconds left for the operation. XD

Yeah, I know...it's just that I must open every treasure chest I encounter; and I go out of my way to find them, too, dammit!
Ah, that reminds me that after trying the final operation in TC2 so many times, I put it on "skip," got past the part that was giving me issues...and skipped story dialogue. Damn >_> I never bothered to try again...and to this day don't know what it is I missed.
Oh, and in another game, I was trying to get a weapon by following the requirements from a guide, but every time I did it, I wouldn't get the weapon! I tried multiple times and kept getting pissed because the mission was quite lengthy...then I realized I had the game on Easy (for some weird reason--I NEVER go to Easy mode. Ever), and you only got the weapon on Normal/Hard mode =/
In the very first tomb raider, I was having a blast playing around with Lara's special animations for diving and what not when you hold L1. I got to the top of one very high pyramid in the first zone, it was hard too. I was certain there was water after, and I attempted this extra mega cool super high dive.
The sounds of cracked bones followed. I laughed and laughed. Boy did I ever like the first game.

^LOL, word.
I've probably done a ton of stupid stuff in games, but the last big mistake I made was in Etrian Odyssey. I forgot to bring Teleport Wire with me, and I was in the highest floor of this Stratum (I think it was the first), so I figured it'd be smart to all the way down to the first floor. I ended up dying.

I've done too many dumb things to remember the worst one, but last night in Dokapon Kingdom I went straight at a boss at the beginning. I got owned, to say the least.

Rabies??
I kept thinking one of them would give me the game's best sword or something.

Finding places to send Agro into an early grave in SotC. Walking far in that game sucked.

I got disappointed not for the fact that I didn't know that, but for the fact that they did not mention it prior to starting the game, its kind of meaningless when your nearly done with the game then find out the secret.

My most often mistake is not saving my game frequently. Which usually results in about 4 hours of lost gameplay when I end up getting get killed.
The other thing would be.. I once accidently deleted my friends save on a Crash Bandicoot game lol

On my first play through Luminous Arc, I missed one of the event pieces of art for the gallery. I then played the entire game a second time through with the same file, and I am still missing that one piece. :( I need to start again and spend another 40 hours with the game to unlock all of the art pieces now, hehe...

Stupidest thing I've done is to buy and actually try to play the new Turok. It's the only game I've ever returned.

Um... Probably koopa shell surfing in Mario64. I did that for hours for some reason.
I have this awful tendency to think "right, this guy drains fire, I'd better use something else" and then absent-mindedly use fire anyway, or do other stupid things on par with that, when I play the same RPG for an extended sitting.
One of my best moments of idiocy was probably the first time I played Final Fantasy V, though. I was on the wrecked ship and I somehow overlooked the door that led to the final leg of the dungeon, so instead I wandered around for over an hour trying and failing to find my way out.

I so did that too!. It was so frustrating, but at least the party was strong for quite awhile from it. XD

In streets of rage I remember getting to the last boss and choosing to be his minion. Now for those of you who have played the game you know that makes you start from the beginning again. I believe I also said yes to him the second time I met him as well. =/

Probably in Mischief Makers when I threw the guy that I was supposed to catch into a fire and it took me forever to catch him without dropping him in the fire by accident.

So I was playing Order of Ellesia last night, til 4am to be specific. The second boss... I totally blanked out the magnet glyph and started trying to ram him to death, which killed me. XD

Well umm once i kinda was Playing Persona 3 FES. I fused a lot of high level persona right? then i went into Tatarus. I was in a battle with Mitsuru and the enemy was able to pull of a Mudoon on me. Luckily i was playing on Easy and got a chance to retry. The under Fuuka's command menu i saw Oracle. clicked it then my HP and SP went to 1. Mitsuru left the battle and i was killed by a strike attack...i was so ticked about dying i turned off the system....then i realized that the last time i saved was like 4 days before that. so i had to fuse the Persona and redo all my social links over -face palm-

Any mess up in Dokapon Kingdom ba ha ha.I went back to Dokapon castle after mastering thief to change to a cleric. I ran into some weak spellcasting creature and accidently pressed up instead of right, and used my hp swap spell. The monster naturally casted some sort of magic and annihilated me. It was sad.

Wow, that's almost as bad as when I was Warrior, and then I chose to fight monster occupying a town... ... ... ... ... ... that was twice my level. Needless to say... ... ... CELIA KICKED ITS ASS! :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
(Celia is my Female Dokapon Kingdom Character ba ha ha.)
Another funny note that's completely unrelated...
Me and my friends were playing.
King: Whoever wins marries my daughter!
Me: Hey, I have a girl character...
Friend 1: So...
Me: LESBIAN MARRIAGE! NO ON PROP 8!
All of us: *crack up*

It's called Prop 102 in Arizona. Everybody must crack jokes when playing story mode as girls. I'm curious as to what happens if a girl wins. Do they show a wedding scene?

Hopefully I can see this weekend. Unfortunately, said friends left back home to UK. So I'm gonna play 3 characters solo. :(

Got around 70 hours into star ocean 2 before I bought the strat guide and found out there was a "secret" dungeon and learned how to make forged medals. Started over again and beat it the right way which took over 90 hours.

I normally don't regret stupid things in video games because... Well... They're video games..
I have had some lulz worthy moments though.
While grinding in Disgaea, everytime I finished the map I would open up the menu and save. After grinding the same map 5-10 times without saving, I open up the menu to save and accidentally hit load game, then load my older save. I caught myself doing it as it was loading the game and smacked myself in the forehead. Don't know why I did it, I must have gotten so used to flying through the menus to save, I accidentally screwed up while going to fast.
Probably the funniest moment, the one I still get ragged on today happened while I was playing Street Fighter 3rd strike online. Unfortunately, I was using the clunky, awkward Xbox 360 controller. I blocked my opponent's super and was waiting for it to finish so I could counter with a super of my own.
I said outloud to myself "This is it! Don't screw up!" Thanks to the damn 360 d-pad, instead of pulling off a super, not only did I jump straight up into the air, I paused my game AND hit the 360 dashboard button (sort of like a 'double pause')
Don't even ask how I did that, i'm still trying to figure that out to this day.

A couple weeks ago, I was fighting the final boss in DQ4 and accidentally chose to run. My HP was low and I needed to heal that turn and though I survived the wasted turn, I wasn't able to recover.
I've done a ton of dumb things when playing using the PS2 wireless logitech controller but I don't know if I should count that because the stupid thing is so unresponsive and clunky to begin with.
There are also plenty of instances where I've been playing games I've completely mastered (the first Castlevania and Mega Man come to mind) only to die in a variety of utterly stupid manners.
