View Full Version : Identifying Minors

I think there should be some sort of icon, maybe underneath peoples avatars that mark them as a minor or not. There's a lot more of them running around these parts lately, and being able to spot them quickly would be extremely beneficial. For both more, shall we say, mature posters as well as the minors themselves. I doubt any of us would like to feel responsible for the corruption of a young mind. Well, except maybe Onion.

as I said in the other post: there's no single way to enforce that rule, anyone can just lie about their age; neither do they have to reveal it in the first place.

another way to solve this is to have an "adults-only" forum where you'd have to somehow prove your age to get in. But I doubt Atlus USA wants to get into that!!!

That reminds me of the old Leisure Suit Larry trivia age-verification system. That one didn't work, either.

Yeah, none of the old age-verification systems were very effective.

Whatever. It was just a thought. Personally, I could care less about whether or not my content is age appropriate, but in our current highly litigious society, AtlusUSA might. Although, if they cared that much, I suppose they wouldn't allow Onion to slink around here seeking his next victim. ;)

Oops, my bad. Totally didn't mean to let the cat out of the bag. I'll take your advice and shush up now. I don't think anyone is really on to your shenanigans yet anyway, so the hunting grounds should remain safe. :)

oh yeah I remember those. Questions on football stats and 70's disco songs.

then how about a "senior members" forum where only those with 1+ years of registration can participate. not that 1 year is very senior. or something a la GameFAQ's karma system. eh I wouldn't use it much personally, just throwing ideas out there. I really like the new forums despite Kakizaki calling them 'mushy' ;)

I really like the new forums as well, and the "senior member" idea is interesting. It could even be those from an earlier version of the forums if a duration of time is needed. However, what would be the point of a forum for the senior members only? I value the input of some of the new members, and I just don't think there would be enough to talk about in a forum designated for said "senior members".

If Atlus had a porn branch this might make more sense.

Well, as they say, necessity is the mother of invention! C'mon Atlus, time to publish some hentaii games!

Zombots: I don't really care either. I'm just saying that's a solution that's been adopted by other message boards in the past.

I'll stick to the ignore feature. Sure, it doesnt show the ages of people, but I figure their actions speak louder then date of birth ever will. If your a young tool, you'll slip up and show everyone how imature you are eventualy.

I completely agree that there wouldn't be enough to talk about in a seperate forum.

I suppose the root of what I was getting at is that there seems to be a disconnect between the audiences that different Atlus games attract.
Let's be honest here, quite a few of the people that have been signing up lately shouldn't even legally be able to buy the Shin Megami Tensei titles.

I'm going to talk differently, and have an entirely different conversation with a 13-14 year old than I am going to have with someone in their mid to late 20's.

That was a terribly offensive way to express a good point....

But I see what you mean. Nothing on here in particular would be overly offensive to youglings senseibilities... like, have you ever watched TV...

I think the real point is that we as forum members have to behave ourselves here. I mean, there are people that take advantage of the free and open nature of such a forum, lord knows I enjoy a little innuendo, but you shouldn't really expect the need for anything more than an admin's reprimand to curb indecent behavior, and this should be a place where fans of any age can come and discuss things intelligently without the need to get very vulgar.

I guess my point is, an adult forum is not needed as long as we can express ourselves in an adult and responsible mannerotherwise, we might as well have the ESRB in here.

'course I never liked it when you kicked the pornbots outs, cute little pornbots never hurt nobody...

I like the idea of a karma system!
Nothing better then having a mod taking away all your karma and changing your sub name. Not that this has happened to me...
