The #1 cardinal rule of this forum is don't be hostile. Don't be rude, don't be a troll, don't take arguments into the realm of personal insults.

Posts like "Go away?" Direct violation. Quoting it for the sake of emphasis, or in an attempt to break the thread, as you guys have recently discovered... probably worse. Knock it off.

From what I've been told, it was the most horrible game to ever carry the Atlus name. I've not played it but that's only because my x-box doesnt play imports. The looks of it from what I can see arnt bad. Looks are deciving though. Everyone tells me it played horribly and the story was only half decent if you were high as a kite or a complete idiot.

Everyone does have one. I perfer to go by my own rather then others as I have weird taste. Legacy of the Wizard anyone? Many consider it one of Falcom's worst games ever. I myself enjoyed it. Sure, it had it's flaws but I still consider it one of the best 20 RPGs to make it across the Pacific for the NES. That may not be saying much as I think there were maybe 20 total and at best it's at the bottem of that list. That said, SMT9 should be found for cheap on ebay if you look in the right places. I got mine for like $12 after shipping. If I'd held out maybe 2 months later I could have gotten the LE version for $24 shipped. Doesnt realy matter which version I got as I still cant play it. I'd recomend you searching for as many reviews as you can on it.

^Ah okay. If you ever do get around, let us know how it is?

I remember watching the intro for the game this morning and saw it had a bit of an old school feel to it. The six party members, some first person perspectives, and I picked up on some music from the first two SMTs.

Most people I know who've actualy played it consider it one of broderbound's worst entry to the NES scene. Myself, I thought they should have picked up one of the Ys games for the system. I keep wishing we'd get more of those. Europe tends to get them more often then we do though.

Kakizaki

^Most people that I know really liked it. Many people that I see discuss it on Falcom dedicated boards also think quite highly of it.

Why would Broderbound want to publish one of the early Ys titles in the U.S. when there was the vastly superior Ys I & II out on the TurboGrafx 16? It would have looked like second rate garbage next to that.

I'm hoping this will be hacked and translated, eventually. I always thought NINE was one of the more interesting titles in the series, and an XBox is so easy to mod, it's pathetic.

One thing to remember guys, this wasn't developed by atlus, it was developed by next entertainment and published by atlus.

I think imagine also got that treatment.

For those wondering, you only control your main character directly, the others are pretty much A.I..

For some reason I like the challenge of not controlling my other party members.

Well they're currently developing something for the Xbox 360. Whether it's a new Megaten or a Persona we'll have to wait and see.

Tecnically that doesn't even have to be a game, it just says it's developing for xbox 360, that can mean anything in that it's opening the door for something in the future, a game or even that a company asked them to make DLC for them, i'm kinda interested myself though.

So NINE inspired Persona 3? Scary.

Kaneko didn't do the art for NINE, some anime designer did.

But Kaneko did do some demon designs specifically for it (similar to the Devil Survivor setup), which is what I believe Greyhawk is referring to.

I'm actually going to second the idea for a remake or translation of both NINE and "if...". SMT I and II have fan translations, but to the best of my knowledge, English-only gamers have never even had an opportunity to play NINE or "if...".

I'd be happy to see any of the games in the core megami tensei series make it state side. I do own a copy of Megami Tensei II for the famicom, but I don't speak Japanese :( Atlus if you are listening, please localize these games!!

Anything but NINE, it's graphically horrible, art style nonexistent, which may seem superficial, but it's what really pushes the average SMT game. Kazuma Kaneko was NOT INVOLVED ENOUGH with the art direction and that is never a good thing. Gameplay is exceptionally boring, some may say that the average Megaten player is more patient, but this is stretching it, there is little payoff in fighting battles. In fact, you don't even need to fight them, you can just negotiate and get the same experience for your demons. which sounds good in theory but if you think about it, what made Persona 1/2IS/EP so good was finding that balance between negotiations
Boiled down, the gameplay is a a beta/experiment for the current IMAGINE.

Sorry to say it but the original XBOX is a dead console, it's not the PS2.

You should look into Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner for the PSP though, it's definitely more technically solid is an all around better experience.

Please....no...

It's never going to happen. the original Xbox is dead and Microsoft stopped updating their backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 a few years ago.

Unless this is re-released on a current gen system in japan, this has no chance of being localized for America.

I had heard SMT NINE was a sort of template for Imagine, but I really don't mind the various spins put on the series, so I'd be just as interested in playing this as any other new spin-off of the franchise.

But Kaneko did do some demon designs specifically for it (similar to the Devil Survivor setup), which is what I believe Greyhawk is referring to.

I think in the minds of some people, they have to have the series artist and music composer locked down for the entire game for it to somehow count as a real installment of a franchise. Truth is, creative types sometimes like to do things outside of franchise work they might be affiliated with. Or perhaps they want to give someone else a chance to set a different tone.

I don't think Kaneko has proven to be make-or-break for not being the main feature in the last two Persona games - his work is still all over it, just not on the side of the story's characters. He's only one of the artists in Devil Survivor as well. He had work in NINE, its just it wasn't as central to the game and only the demons.
