XD I was gonna suggest this but forgot.

I'd love to this this game arrive here. I'm like.. obsessed with the MMO. >>; I just got my first trans class after.. 5 years. *coughs* I admit I'm more into the hanging out in the city and talking with my guild then PVP or WoE.. Though I do also enjoy the PvM aspect.

Apparently though it only has the Novices, 1st classes, 2-1 classes, Taekwons, Taekwon Masters, and the 2 new classes Dark Knights and Shamans. Meaning it doesn't have the 2-2 classes, Trans classes, Soul Linkers, Gunslingers, or Ninjas. :/ Which is sad, I mostly only play 2-2s.. my only 2-1 is my battle priestess. D:

Also the article I read said it'd be released in time for ROs 6th Anniversary. I'm not sure if iROs anniversary is the same or not, but iRO will enter its 6th year next spring.

edit: The fact that the graphics seem to be the same as the MMO amuses me. I can tell where they are in the few ingame screenies they have. >>; Which I think is really.. sad. e_e;

It's apalling how they recycled ALL graphics from the MMO. The sprites sure are beautiful, but for those who have played the online game it just plain sxxks to have storyline characters look identical to your vanilla knight\sage\wizard :?

I'd rather they reuse the sprites if they can't give the game a big enough budget to make new sprites of the same quality.

I have my doubts about the game it-self being any good though.

I have been following this for a while, and I saw those scans yesterday. The game looks great to me. Hopefully, the online features will be good, considering that it isn't an MMORPG. :(

That reminds me of Phantasy Star Universe (extra mode) and Ambition of the Illuminus. My character looks so much like Ethan Waber, seriously. Fortunately, Ethan Waber wore a different outfit in the expansion, otherwise I would find the game to be confusing.

Nonetheless, I look forward to playing Ragnarok Online DS, because I have never played the other versions before, so it wouldn't matter. \(^.^)/

Oh! I loved this game! I would get it, it looks so close to the original! I hope they have pets in it to though, but I doubt it. Either way I'd get it but I wonder if your solo all the time or if theirs a storyline or do you get an AI partner?

I played RO when it was still in beta; has anything about the actual gameplay changed, or is it still a grindfest?

for the PC it's still a grind fest, with more tier classes and a rebirth system. So that means even more grinding!

I don't know what it's going to be like for the DS.

You play the red haired guy, seems he can goto any class you want. You get several AI partners, your first being the shaman girl who has no memories. Together you traval around Rune-Midgarts.. probably solving quests and trying to right wrongs and find her memories. You end up with other AI controled members (a mage girl, a theif boy, and a swordy boy) There may be more, but they haven't revealed much. Apperently everyone but the hero is AI controled, but you can set the AIs as you see fit.. though I really have no idea how smart they'll be.

>_>; I was hoping you could chose who the main character of the story was, but I guess thats to much to hope for. ~_~ I really didn't wanna play as a male character.. I'm still looking forward to it, I'll probably import it if it doesn't get brought over here.

Also, RO the MMO is still as grindy as ever. But Its.. slightly faster grindy. Most characters can gain anywhere from 2mil to 10mil exp an hour at high-ish levels. Which is really good for non-trans. (Trans require 3x as much exp so.. 10mil turns out to only be like.. 2~3-ish % an hour at 98) Which is more then my one trans character will get. ;_; Darn me for liking hard to level novilty builds.

Hey, I never have the time to play online games
(well most things on home consoles are off my reach...hand-helds for me!)
Anyway, I did try this out and loved it (however short the time I did try it), so
as a gamer-on-the-go who loves a good MMO type like Ragnarok:
I BUMP THIS!!

It's because it isn't online that I like it!
I always wanted to play Ragnarok like everyone else, but I'm confined to hand-helds due to life constraints (jobs >_>).
I did try Ragnarok for a while so I know basics.
This going hand-held rocks!

:3 New info, screens and a video!
Video : http://gamekyo.com/videoen13419_ragnarok-online-ds-first-video.html

I guess theres a tower called Mirage Tower, which is 50 floors of randomly generated maps that are similer to the Endless Tower found in the MMO, you can also go into the tower as any class.

I highly doubt I'd buy this, unless I found out (from my future self 2 years from not) that Phantasy Star Zero was definitely NOT coming to the U.S. Even if that happened, the PC version is free to play now, so I'd play that if I had the itch.

The major problem I see with this game is lag. A lot of it.

I mean, for a MMO game like this to be playable, you need Wi-fi, right? The computer, heck, even the Wii, are better systems for Wi-fi then a DS.

So incorporating a Computer MMO into a DS is pretty questionable. I don't think it's a bad thing since you can play this on the go, but I feel this won't be without its flaws, being a ton of them.

frequency
12-15-2008, 11:55 AM
It's not really an MMO. So lag isn't an issue. It's just all the assets from the MMO. The game itself is an offline dungeon crawler, but with a lot of the same mechanics as the MMO. Horrible...

sfried
12-15-2008, 01:15 PM
I've heard there is an online aspect. As for lag, I've played many DS games and lag doesn't seem to be an issue for most given the requirements (802.11b router) are low, anyways.

That said, I'm more looking forward to Phantasy Star Zero than this one, although I've been hearing some good impressions from people who've played this.

Actually, most anything that can be done on Wi-Fi can be done offline in Ragnarok DS
.....
so I was informed by importers.

"So online is not just regulated to one tower? "

Yes and no.
It's more like a 50 floor dungeon.
It changes scenery at bits to keep your visually entertained...not much so, but yeah.
I'm not sure if local adds some things though.
(At the very least, be happy that you can completely make your own character in the offline-online mode. It can take a while so you can enjoy it)

It looks great and I played RO before it became P2P....(if im gonna P2P i'll play something like WoW or War Online...although I doont play P2P period cause im poor lol)

Anyways it looks like a cool idea but it also looks like another stupid attempt to overuse the touch screen.

god no. If this ever comes out, I'll never be able to talk to my GF again, she'll have her face in the DS on the road, and on the PC at home.

My god, if Atlus ever publishes this game over here I will finally be able to sing:

Today is the greatest day I've ever known♪
Can't wait till tomorrow, tomorrow is much to old♪
I will pay Atlus so much money for this♪
Today is the greatest day I've ever known♪

I’ve played the original and I must say it is awesome; it's also the type of game that works great offline. A portable spin-off would be too cool. Please Atlus, please bring it. If anyone else publishes it I won’t buy it! *throws hissy fit*

hope that you can choose your main character as either male or female, name your characters( not only the name of the main character but also the recruiting AI characters) and like the RO, its better if you can change the hairstyle and haircolor... i try the japanese game but the introduction takes almost 15minutes( i guess..) that made it so boring at first but the gameplay, uhhhmm.. judge it... it's better if the gameplay is like summon night twin age, the AI characters do the things on their own and their very handy, no need to control each character just to attack, just align their skills( the AI's) then use it on their own... and also what the hell is that shaman and dark knight classes??? how to build those two new class and their skills??? by the way, it's more fun if they will add the second alternate jobs, because i really want a crusader... even there's no more trans and 3rd jobs, just put those in the second alternate jobs(sage, crusader, etc....) and add also the ninja... hehe... that's all.. and thanks.. hope that someone will reply to my post...

Right now, Ragnarok Online DS is scheduled for a vague Winter 2009 release, but we should have more details as time goes on. This releases marks XSEED's first grouping with GungHo, a publisher who has recently released Hero's Saga Leavadein for the DS, Mimana Iyar Chronicle for the PSP, and will be publishing the upcoming Lunar: Harmony of Silver Star in Japan.

^So the first bold, a typo I am sure? Winter 2010.

Second, since they are working together on this one, could we speculate they are most likely are working together on a second title?

Anyways, I would pick this up depending on the situation. The DS sure has a lot of RPG's. I wouldn't have anyone for the mulitplayer anyways :(

Nope, no typo. I hate season based release dates, but that's what they labeled it as. Maybe they are actually planning to release it during the week of winter that we get in 2009?

You are completely right. I tend to forget that part. Well that makes it a bit more exciting as a December release.
