I think Fate Unlimited Codes would be a good game to localize since Fate/ Stay Night is having another go in the U.S with Funimation re-releasing the anime and Tokyo Pop releasing the manga in the fall.

the game looks pretty fun. It seems to be a little similiar to Melty Blood but 3D. You can sidestep to avoid the projectile attacks but man, 20+ hit combos and those super combos done when you are trapped to a wall....
but it's so awesome to see Archer chanting Unlimited Blade Works as he is kicking ass :D

If this does somehow make it over, KEEP THE ORIGINAL UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS chant Atlus.
The dub one sucks.

Agreed! I think more people will be familiar with the Fate name and characters than, say, Arcana Hearts (I'm not bashing Arcana, I love that game! I'm just trying to prove apoint :D ). This has an advantagge of having both an anime and an upcoming manga to help spread the word (in addition to the TM fanatics that roam the countryside!).
That being said, I do hope that this is something that will be considered!

Um, that's an arcade game with no ported confirmation...
On top of that...*sigh* Do I really need to go into detail? I'll just make it brief. Melty Blood is a full blown sequel to Tsukihime. Tsukihime is a full blown PORN visual novel...
Atlus simply CAN'T release Tsukihime...and Persona 2 is the perfect example of what happens when you localize a sequel without the original story...

Alright, I never said Fate/unlimited codes was impossible. Fate/Stay night was in fact, a decent adaptation of the novel.
Unfortunately, when it comes to Tsukihime, the adaptations are soooo ####ty, and the audience sooooo niche...it's not even close to worth bringing over.

F/UC (http://www.capcom.co.jp/fate_uc/) would be great to see in the West - as would a special edition with the Lily Saber (http://www.capcom.co.jp/fate_uc/cs1.html) Figma fig that is being released in Japan!
The latter would be even less likely than the former, however.

I disagree. A video game takes lots of work to prepare for an English-speaking audience, whereas a figurine just needs to be shipped here. There's certainly a lot of online stores you can order figurines from (particularly Figma series stuff; it's so popular).
Nerroth
10-01-2008, 05:45 PM
I meant that it would be even less likely for an English version to be packaged with the Saber Lily fig - which, unlike the regular Saber (http://figma.jp/products/2008/fig0804-02.html) model that Figma sell, will be limited (for the time being) to the F/UC special edition.
Getting an additional production run of Saber Lily might be tricky...
...but if it isn't, well and good!
(However, even the regular Figma Saber would be a great choice, as would the Figma Rin (http://figma.jp/products/2008/fig0808-01.html).)

Oh, duh. XD I suppose I should have actually read the page you linked rather than looking at the pretty picture. 8'(
I'm not really big on Figma (or figurines in general), though.
I don't really know how often Atlus licenses fighting games, so I don't really have much to say other than this feels like it'd be tricky to get over here since there is this mindset people have that games based on other things like films aren't very good.
And I heard that Arcana Heart didn't do super spectacularly, so...

No there's not... The visual novel fanbase is as niche as they get.
As for the anime...even though anime has started to grow out of the "cartoon space" in society's eyes...it's still not exactly what you'd call expansive.
Let's just say this much...#### like Naruto will get WAY more attention that it deserves, instead of stuff like Fate/stay night. Hence, localizing a crapload of Naruto games is a gimmie. The former...not so much. They've done it once or twice in the past...and it failed epically.
That said...kinda dwindles down the chances, don't it?

^ Well, I stand corrected. Luckily for me, though, my prediction is just as valid. As far as I'm aware, Arcana Hearts was an experiment that didn't exactly turn a great deal of dividends. Factor in the rapidly approaching death of the PS2, and your fighting game has as much chance as SRT and your visual novel.

I guess if Sony hadn't taken out the backwards compatibility on the PS3, that would have helped a little - but even so, there is still a very large userbase for the PS2 out there, and Sony aren't quite doing what Microsoft did with the Xbox (ie pull up the drawbridge prematurely).
Still, even if it is a long shot, I'd like to see it have a chance.

That whole compatibility issue is just why I'm getting a JP 20/60 Gig PS3. I can play PS3 games from overseas and from the US, and I can play JP PS2 games all in one. Oh btw, I still use my PS2 and there are still more games releasing on this console. I don't think the PS2 will completely die in a long time as long as this keeps going. Even so, it would be nice if we could get some Type Moon games localized. They make such great fighting games.

Get a (slightly older) J-PS3 which still has the backwards compatibility?
Interesting - but would that mean its Blu-Ray player will be region 2 only? (That would still cover Europe, which would suit me, being originally from Ireland, if that had to be the way. And getting an EU PS3 would mean having it run in PAL instead of NTSC, and at 220v instead of 110...)
But, can the system be set to run in English, the way a PSP can, or will it run in Japanese only?
(Actually, that idea about a J-PS2 might work, too - since it would be cheaper, and let me bring European DVDs over to Canada with me in future, and play them on it! But then, can it be switched to run in English, either?)

I'm not really picky, but Tsubame Gaeshi looked pretty bad in F/UC and C F/F. it looked absolutely perfect in F/F and I don't see why they ruined it in C F/F. I mained Assassin, and I can tell you, Assassin is the most powerful character if you mastered his 236B and his just guard. He would be immune to everyattack except Lancer's Freeze time special. Even his Gaebolg lance throw is useless against Assassin.
That aside, I should considering learning Japanese. It'll probably help a lot in the long run.

I really do hope Atlus brings this over, with the PS2 nearing the end of it's lifespan we wont be seeing much attention for it anymore which will be a shame. They're releasing One Piece: Unlimited Cruise over here in the US knowing how terribly Unlimited Adventure sold over here.
I think if Namco Bandai knows how horribly their games sold and they're still going to ship the sequels over here, then even us FSN fans can at least hope for Atlus to localize this.
I don't have a JP PS2 nor do I want to go through the trouble of buying a PS2
and modding it. I have a 60GB PS3 and if Atlus localizes this I can play it.
Several FSN fans over here in the US want this game localized. Arcana Hearts got localized and there was a slim chance of that happening.

Sorry, but that is the Fatal Fake Assassin. I love that Assassin the best as it matches a Samuri's style the best. That aside, Assassin is still pretty cheap in F/UC (his parry moves are.. scary), but I have to consider Archer and Rin more dangerous. Rin can deal 9K, and Archer has godly combo range.

The game is published by Capcom right? I think if it were to get an overseas release, they would do it themselves. I remember reading that they wouldn't mind giving the game an overseas release as long as there is demand. What about BLAZBLUE? AFAIK, it hasn't been licensed for a stateside release, and is scheduled for an arcade-to-PS3 port in Japan. Produced by the same team behind Guilty Gear, with music by series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari.
Eh? EH?
Might it not be better to discuss that game in a dedicated thread instead?
What *is* Fate/Stay night etc? I've heard that a lot, but don't really know where to look for info.
The original F/SN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fate/stay_night) was a visual novel released in Japan five years ago - and which has spawned a manga, an anime, several games, a light novel series, and a tooooooooooon of fan works!
A good place to talk Fate is here (http://nrvnqsr.proboards20.com/index.cgi), if you want to visit.

I've only heard negative things about Fate Unlimited Code's gameplay: it's system is broken and, allegedly, not very fun to ...play. Sad, since I'm a fan of most Type-Moon work.
Thats odd considering its being generally well received on the more "hardcore" fighting sites such as Shoryuken etc.

I woudn't buy the PS2 ver because non RPGs really geting old on this console. J-Fighting games are good and all but PS2 should keep the flow of RPGs since nex-get has a lack-of.
However, I'm all for the PSP version of this game! It has more content than the PS2 ver and J-fighting games on the PSP are awesome! Really hope Atlus is eyeing these games. :D

Update (http://www.capcom.co.jp/fate_uc/psp_index.html) to the official site.
Luls, I support this idea, because the game could probably be a stand alone title, I mean even for those unfamiliar with the franchise should be comfortable with how the game looks, if you ask me. The only problem with the people who aren't familiar with F/SN would probably the small character rost... After all, who can resist overkill?

This would be a day 1 purchase for me. I love Fate/stay night and I've been wanting to play this game. It looks better than I thought.
I have never seen this anime, but I just watched a trailer and I have to say that I'm pretty impressed. If this were released I would definitely buy it.

Those people criticizing the game are probably people who didn't play deep enough and doesn't have what it takes to pull off such a combo. After all, fighting games require a bit of... time. And most of the combos aren't really practical. 7Ks are standard, but I don't seriously see it as broken, just much more punishing. IMO, it's much more intense then a lot of the fighting games out there.

Interesting (http://www.capcom-unity.com/s-kill/blog/2009/04/28/captivate_09_fateunlimited_codes)...
...though if Capcom won't do an actual UMD release, it would be a shame if they won't let anyone else release it in that format either...

It makes sense from a business standpoint though. This is a somewhat niche fighting game (for North America at least), so releasing it in a download only format reduces potential losses from printing costs if it doesn't catch on. And since not all PS3s are backwards compatible with PS2 games, a PS3 download of the PS2 version probably isn't possible.

Fate/Stay Night might be a niche game, but I don't think this game is like that.
My friend doesn't watch anime at all, and only knew of Fate/Stay Night because of a few clips I showed him on Youtube. A guy that he worked with brought it in one day. The next day in class he showed me all of these combo commands he printed out from the internet. He loved the game.

Not to mention Fate/Stay Night was ported to the ps2 and all of the hentai content was removed and replaced with new scenes and voice acting. An anime was created that also removed all of the H-scenes. That anime is popular in North America and Europe. So even if people never played the game they could watch the anime if they wanted to understand what was going on.
Sure there was some HF content in Fate/Unlimited Codes, but not so much that people would not be able to pick up on what's going on.

Heh... I played the Fate/Stay game... and the plot was ridiculously well-written, setting aside the sex scenes. Well, not that that was unexpected from Nasu. I've never seen anything he did that wasn't interesting and obsession-causing at the very least.

They should consider the PSP version instead as it will have more content than the PS2 version.
Great game though lots of stuff to practice and master. It also has a lot of mini-games.
