It was $40. Why $60 now?

The more people want to play this game,
The lesser the supplies,
The more rare the game is being sold,
The price goes up!

Not always the case with video games. Usually the value depreciates from the mainstream seller until they push all of their inventory off the shelves. Amazon had a Video Game Deal of the Day for this game at one point (why?). Is this just a profiting scheme for a crazy scheme.
And theoretically, these things don't cost too much to produce. All that is shipping out is the case (not too hard to make) and the game disk (not too hard to make either) and the manual (don't know if the paper is becoming rare).

Reprinting games costs more money than you think it does.

Theoretically, you are correct. However, I believe reprinting games is not so simple. The process itself is rather... Not sure how to put it though.

i think it's higher ups want to see how far people would for this game(i saw $350 max one day for Nocturne on ebay, next day it sold).....then they start reprinting and sell at full price($50)....not because of reprinting cost, but because they know it would sell just as great as a new release game (i.e. Halo series)...its a simple marketing strategy i suppose...well at least that's my theory
i happened to be lucky to find a copy at gamestop in San Antonio for $35 used...add 10% off for the gamestop card..and that's a bargain..plus the disc looked brand new....now i found a copy where i live in Houston.
It's still $45 at Play-Asia.

Its Amazon and they sell niche products at a generally high price when compared to other avenues...

You can't just print a new copy for someone who wants the game. In the printing business (the manuals and the slip sheets), you've got to have a minimum amount to print otherwise, 1. It isn't worth it, and 2. The print shop won't take the job. In the printing business there is a cost involved for the things required. Things like the ink, the plates which have to made for the press, the labor costs, etc... There is a lot to it. Atlus can't just run to Kinkos and have this stuff done everytime someone wants a copy.
I'm not trying to sound mean or anything though, just trying to be informative as someone who knows a thing or two about the printing business.

^It is also common sense. There is a minimum order for print runs.

Most people just don't know where to look...
Play asia has had copies for a long time now.... at least, 9 months already...

Not a horrible price, but not a deal, either....
I guess it's about to get another batch of reprints.... That gamequestdirect site, 'unknown' has linked, has it listed as a pre-order.... due to ship today? Though, $25 is the lowest I've ever seen it... I guess by tomorrow that pre-order button will change to a cart button...
Mmm, seem that DDS1 has the same pre-order standing....

I paid full price for that one, $49.99, but got it when it came out
I bought Nocturne directy thru Atlus, for 35 bucks. That was back before they changed their site. Their store was basicly a listing, and you had to send them a check directly via snail mail... with an inventory list of what you wanted to buy. The game was going for about 60 bucks, on Ebay, at the time. That was quite a long time ago... 4 year? 5?

So Nocturne is good? I haven't played any SMT games until P3 actually.
I saw this one at the store for about $40 and it looked good.
I'm tempted to buy it, but only after Christmas. I'm booked up for P4.

I paid $75 for a used copy before the reprint and regret nothing. It's my favorite game of all time.
Picked mine up for 40 with the sound track. Glad I didn' wait longer.

I wouldn't be surprised if the price did go up on this game, it's a pretty hard game to come by, alot of ATLUS games are hard to come by (well the older ones).

I don't think the price should go up to an exhorberant ammount, considered it was reprinted not too long ago. I was lucky to get Nocturne, and both DDS' for $90CAD. With patience, I'm sure these games can be acquired at a reasonable price.
Not that it'll stop certain people from selling their copies for $150+...

This has to be posted because of how rare this tends to happen. I found Nocturne at an EBs used with everything included but the soundtrack for 40.
I wasn't even looking for it, I just happen to find it while I was searching for a Xenosaga game.

Yeah, this is a rare game that's only increasing in demand, with the success of P3 and P4. If the next couple games do as well as newer Persona titles (DS:KRvKA, Devil Survivor, P1 Remake, etc.) and really cement SMT as a major series in the states, Nocturne could climb up in value.
I bought my first copy new ($50), so I never had to worry about it's status as a rarity. However, when the game was still going for as much as $60-$80 on eBay, I found a used copy at a local GameCrazy for $10. THAT was a great day. :D

I'd say so. I've seen plenty of re-printed copies without it but only the one I bought at Game Stop and when a video store went out of business with it. If you check eBay and such you'll notice that the version containing the soundtrack sells for more.
