View Full Version : Hard to Find
These games are so hard to find in stores now because apparently they aren't being made anymore, at least that's what my nearest Gamestop told me. And they are very pricey at the places I have found them online. So, my question is...are they worth the price?

These are all for DDS1, the more expensive of the two:
Gamestop used: $39.99 used
http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=34772
(You can use that link to see if any stores near your zip code have copies... call to confirm before you pick it up, though, because their system isn't always correct)
Amazon: $49.90-$53.00 used, $69.99-325.00 new
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00008KTRS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_olp_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1213807111&sr=8-1
Ebay: looks to be about the $30-50 price range right now
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=digital+devil+saga&_sacat=See-All-Categories
edit: Oops, I thought that you were asking where you could get them online. I'll leave the links up in case anyone else is interested.
DDS1 is definitely not worth $325. I paid $30 and was happy with the first for that price, but I don't think I would have felt the same if I had paid $50 or upwards for it. Both of them are extremely short (DDS2 even moreso than the first one), and the plot twist at the end of 2 is pretty lame. I did like the gameplay, but not everyone felt the same way.
I noticed that you seem to be interested in the series because of Persona 3, and DDS is extremely different. It's a lot more unforgiving, and doesn't appeal to the same audience as P3. It's also a lot closer to the SMT series proper in regards to plot (meaning that the plot is much more scarce than in P3). The story is also a lot darker, and the soundtrack and art style are different from P3 and 4. The press-turn system is still there, but the battle system is still markedly different from Persona's.
In short, I guess it depends on what you liked about Persona 3.

I dunno. I breezed through DDS. I find it's definitely the easiest game in the whole SMT collection. Even moreso than P3.

I saw DDS1 in an EB games on monday at my nearest mall. It was 39.99 used. That's about as low as it will ever get. So if you keep searching, you could probably find it, but it'd be easier to order it online.

P3 was a lot easier imo. I had to grind a lot in order to get decent skills in DDS, and the only time I ever had to grind in P3 was when I ran out of money for armor or to be able to get through Monad. I dunno, it was just a lot easier to breeze through Persona 3 for me.

reprints on play-asia.com
http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-b5te-71-43-49-en-15-digital+devil+saga-84-j-70-2ts5.html

Both are in stock and 44.90 at Play Asia. They are both quite awesome. They are the reprint versions, though, and Nocturne lacks the soundtrack.

I was lucky and got DDS1 deluxe box the first time around... Took FOREVER to track down a controller sticker ($15ish inc ship) and DDS2 (finally got it online; probably about $50-60 IIRC). I'd say you could get both for around $100 if you time it right on Ebay or something. I managed to get the Atlus E3 promotional copies (I forget what they are officially called.. just the game in a sleeve with no fancy disc art) for $45 each.

Seems gamequest direct as pre-orders with Nov 25th as the ship date... which is today.

Although, it says game only. So, my guess is the box won't be included...
I got DDS2 last week. It feels funny going from a broken party to starting w/the bare essentials.

DDS1 was reprinted not that long ago. Gamestop just likes to charge their customers more. The only reason my friend picked it up was to get a manual. You can tell a reprint from the original (if you're a collector or OCD about that kinda thing) because the memory card holder is missing. However, I noticed its missing from Eternal Posion.. I guess thats the new style ^_^;
Nonetheless, you should be able to find DDS1 regular pack easy, but the deluxe set goes for upwards of $100 now, the controller sticker usually isn't included; and while buying DDS2 its usually the game (the cover is reversible, there aren't 2 covers for it) and the soundtrack is a little rare too.

That's quite a bit for Trade Demos that are supposed to free :P Trades generally shouldn't be more than $10-$20 (of course eBay can cost more...).

you can buy DDS 1 from amazon itself for new, but DDS 2 you cant you can only buy from sellers and the price's they want for a new copy is to high i think, i hope ATLUS re-release both games sometime next year, i have part 1 and its feeling lonely with out part 2 :very_sad:
At least anyone waiting for a reprint of DDS 2 can master all the mantras and do all the side quests in the mean time...

i think the best option for ATLUS is to release both games DDS1/DDS2 in a single disk case to cut cost, when and if they do a reprint of part 1/2, for 29$

There used to be a time when Atlus games appeared on the shelves then seemed to just vanish from existence but lately I've noticed they're becoming more present. The games are really popular but if you can't find them at your local GameStop, try eBay. I just sold DDS2 for $32.

I'm new the SMT series but i heard that DDS was pretty good so when i went to my local EB games shop i found DDS2 used for $32 CND and from reading the post it must be an original print seeing it had the memory card holder in it. Its in good condition and all so i as impressed.
So i was pretty excited to play but then realized that its a direct sequel to the first (its not like Persona 3 and 4 where they're completely two different games)
So the next day i headed out the Eb games again and what do u know i found the deluxe edition of DDS1 used in mint condition (and included the sound track as well) and that was $55 CND. again it has the memory card holder slot so i don't think it was a reprint either, but i could be wrong. Either way i just got really lucky that i found both of them.

I'm going to have $300 to burn for both DDS games this weekend (payday! hurray!) and I'm trying to find the deluxe versions of both. I saw a couple on Amazon that looked promising, but I wanted to ask what the deluxe box sets for each contain?
You can pick up the first one from Play Asia for 44 with like 2 dollars shipping. They don't have the second one though. As far as I remember the Deluxe box set was only for the first and mainly consisted of a... well box that holds both games, DVD season style thing. It also came with a sountrack and there was a controller armor as preorder bonus.
I don't think anything came with the second one.
The first one can be bought here http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-b5te-71-43-49-en-15-digital+devil+saga-84-j-70-2ts5.html Its the reprint Atlus put out a bit ago and lacks the outer dvd season style carboard box and soundtrack tho. It still has a regular PS2 box and a manual.

Yeah, just go for the reprint... the cardboard box isn't really worth the extra cost, and this is coming from a collector... ;) Just reverse the cover of DDS2 and you'll have a pair of cases that look pretty sweet together on your shelf.
Instead, since you have $300 to burn, I suggest you get the Integral soundtrack (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-8l-77-3-49-en-15-Digital+Devil+Saga-70-136b.html) for $41.90 plus shipping, which is four discs long and features the music that the CD included with the deluxe edition doesn't (i.e. most of it).

I respect another collector's tastes! Yea, the cardboard box doesn't seem palatable and I could get a better soundtrack for cheaper. Now I gotta look for a "reasonable" price for DDS2 :/

I've had 3 of the outer boxes. I ended up giving one away and the other one got damage. There is really nothing special about it, like some of the other games that have outer boxes.

Kinda reminds me of when I used to collect anime and they'd pack in the box with the first disc and eventually either break the box or lose it.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I just ordered the soundtrack as well, so I think I'm going to be set. I'll be sure to share the damage in $ once I get everything together.

Wow thats some luck. People in your area must not really know what a gem it is.
Luckily I picked this baby up on it's first print. Got DDS1 with the box and OST and then 2 later when it was released. It was actually the first SMT game I ever bought, so it was sorta challenging for me.
Soundtrack is awesome...also the first I've heard of Shoji Meguro. All in all, it was a great introduction to the Megaten franchise.

I've had luck finding all my games in my town usually in the clearence bin. My heart nearly stopped when I found my DDS1 and 2 in a buy one get one free deal.
i wonder if this is atlus strategy of only producing small quantities of their games. they know that they have a dedicated cult fans out there and they are starting to get ALOT of attention thanks to persona 3/4. i wont be surprise if they will become the next square then square enix in the future. i hope they release alot of quantities of their games... or reprint them atleast. it wont hurt. maybe. lol. this is the only way they can reintroduce all the new gamers out there to smt series...

I was one of the lucky ones to get the soundtrack to both games along with the cardboard casing. I just can't remember what I did with the controller sticker, chances are that I accidentally got rid of it when I moved.
Let this be a lesson to everyone. Unless it's something like Ontamarama or Draglade, buy Atlus games when they come out so you don't have to hunt them down later.
i was wondering...whats the deal for reprints?! does it cause to much to reprint some of atlus games. like devil digital saga 2. maybe like a greatest hits edition or something. the game is expensive brand new online.

IMO - no, not really.
Atlus is still a niche video game company, despite the mainstream praise they receive for some their titles.
Atlus USA takes a larger chance by reprinting titles than let's say Square-Enix.
SMT: Nocturne, DDS1, & P2: EP were re-printed in only small quantities at the original price. Both Nocturne & P2: EP have sold out again, but over priced copies are awaiting the rich on ebay.
i wonder if they can reprint those games again in small quantities... its still gonna sell i guess so its a win win situation.

If you like RPG's or Demons or Heavy Metal music, yeah, it's awesome. It's the reason I hang around here so much. It's on alot of people's best rpg's ever list around here.
It's not really "Heavy Metal" music exactly, more like kind of heavy and metally music. Or if you like Atlus games, Anime, Shin Megami Tensei. If you like all those things, it's even better. :D

Which one is better is debatable. It's complicated but Devil Saga is almost like an expansion/spinoff of Nocturne so talking about it is the nearly the same thing anyway.
Don't kill me Atlus people for over simplifiying, Anbu is actually confused as to how awesome Digital Devil Saga is.
Oh yeah, I have an irrational love for gunxsword at the moment. :D

Thanks, I'll look for Black Lagoon.
You should probably play Nocturne first, it was made first. I played DDS1 first though and it was a really good introduction. Nocturne is bigger and harder, it was easier because I knew what I was doing.
It's difficult to tell how much you'll like Nocturne, it's evil and hard, did you first play Persona3 or 4? Or did you come for another game around here?

I believe there is a lot of overhead cost in doing a production run. After that, each disc is fairly cheap to press, but it's not worth doing a print run unless you are making a large number of copies. With the recent reprints of Nocturne and DDS1, the prices seem to have settled within a fairly normal range. There are still plenty of copies in the hands of stores and resellers, so I don't think there's much demand for Atlus to produce more copies.

DDS is pretty hard. Especially DDS2 because Atlus likes to #### around with your party a lot. The three members that I actually used got booted out (Serph, Argilla, Roland) and I was stuck with an underleveled Gale and Cielo at the EGG Installation (2nd visit). :/

DDS is pretty hard. Especially DDS2 because Atlus likes to #### around with your party a lot. The three members that I actually used got booted out (Serph, Argilla, Roland) and I was stuck with an underleveled Gale and Cielo at the EGG Installation (2nd visit). :/
Y'know, the exact same thing happened to me, too. Except my Gale and Cielo weren't underleveled... they just were generalists in a game that I had tuned my party toward specialization as much as possible (and I had just lost my main physical and magical specialists).
I loved it, made me work my ass off, especially when that boss battle came up. :D It was easily the most epic fight of the two games up to that point! (also notable as the first time "Hunting - Betrayal" was used... a theme that would later haunt my dreams for the many times I've tried taking on Satan. In case you were wondering, yeah, my first playthrough of DDS2 was on Hard mode)

I'm pretty angry about this. A gamestop had DDS2 for $25 and I thought to myself "Oh, no one really knows about the game nor buy it. It can wait." Well it's gone now...crap.

I picked up DDS 2 at gamestop back in 2006 for $30 new just before it was impossible to find.
Unfortunately, I had to get DDS 1 on ebay for $50 with the box but no soundtrack shortly after.

Whoo! I just drove 45 minutes to get DDS2 for $25 from a gamestop. The only downside is that it was the disc only. Anyone know where I can find a scan of the cover to print out?
