View Full Version : Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard MEGA-Contest

05-23-2008, 02:45 PM
Dear Atlus Faithful,

We've done a fair bit of scouring through the Yggdrasil Labryinths of our hearts to come up with the coolest contest possible for one of this Summer's biggest releases: Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard.

Teaming up with Destructoid, we're proud to present what can only be referred to as the:

http://www.atlus.com/res/eo2set.jpg

ONE Grand Prize Winner will receive:
• A SIGNED copy of Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard
• A SIGNED copy of the official 3-CD soundtrack (Import)
• A 6.5" Female Protector figurine (Import)
• A copy of the rare Japan-only preorder bonus soundtrack CD
• A copy of the orchestrated Super Arrange soundtrack CD (Import)

THREE First Place Winners will receive:
• A copy of Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard
• A copy of the official 3-CD soundtrack (Import)

FIVE Second Place Winners will receive:
• A copy of the official 3-CD soundtrack (Import)

Entering the contest is easy: just make a community blog titled "Tales of Etrian Odyssey" on Destructoid.com detailing your most memorable experience associated with the series. Maybe it was a narrow escape from a fight with two FOEs, or something about your favorite created character. Maybe it's about your party getting slaughtered (and your first death in the dungeons) when you happened to pick the game up after a few weeks of inactivity only to find out you missed a critical warning about NOT trying to take on the Wyvern in the second stratum. Just an example. *eyes dart nervously*

That Grand Prize looks really nice. Will this contest be open to those outside the U.S./Canada?

So, how is the contest going to be judged? is it going to be on the best written one? best story? or something else?

Nice prize! This really is a MEGA-Contest!

This is a nice contest but the people over at destructoid are being kind'a rude about it. Oh well I hope things work out for the best for both places.

Oh. My. God.

*Begins furiously writing out a narrative*

We apologize for this not being made clear at the onset, but winners must be residents of the United States or Canada. Moreover, Atlus will collaborate with Destructoid in determining the contest winners.

We understand that some are often intimidated or uncertain about writing-based contests. Please do not be concerned, as judging will in no way be centered on writing-proficiency or grammar. We are looking for effort, enthusiasm, and a good sense of spirit and fun!

We hope to find interesting stories from fans of the original game, not only for other Etrian Odyssey fans to enjoy, but also to excite new people into giving the series a try.

Good luck!

Who is signing the prizes? You guys?

I love Destructoid, and have been a member there for a number of months now, but the way they handle contests is just absurd. I hope you guys are prepared to sift through hundreds, possibly thousands, of identical entries that read something along the lines of "I never played this game but I WANT FREE STUFF".

I'll see if I can whip up a decent story about my team's exploits in Yggdrasil. I had a few epic FOE battles that might make for a good read maybe.

Wow!

One part of me is furiously trying to remember EO close encounters, while the other is complaining that this prize should be a standard Limited Edition, available to those who lack literary prowess

Hah, yeah. I spent a good hour or so writing up my entry last night, and didn't look at what other people were writing. It's pretty ridiculous. There were blank entries, lots of entries like the one you mentioned, there was on entry that was a guy talking about ####ing his DS or something... Crazy stuff, man.

Looks like a stiff competition.

So, is the Atlus Crew signing the game and CD or is it someone else?
I'm just curious.

DarkShear

Yeah who is signing this stuff? I once won a signed Quake 2 strategy guide signed by Thresh and some dude named Spear. I still to this day have no idea why some guy named Spear was signing my strategy guide.

It says in the full contest rules, but since they don't seem to be working, Shigeo Komori (EOII's director) is signing the game and Yuzo Koshiro (the composer) is signing the 3-disc OST. The other stuff isn't signed.

Do blog postings on Destructoid normally take a long time to actually get posted? I posted my tale a while ago and it hasn't appeared on my blog...

I'm in Australia, but can I pay the shipping for any prizes I may win? I think this would be fair for everyone.

Sometimes they take a while to register in the sidebar. If you go under the "Community" tab at the top of the page and click "Latest Community Blogs". Post tend to show up on that page faster and more reliably.

Also: Make sure you've clicked the "Publish this Live" option. Just because you've saved it doesn't mean it's live and able to be read.

Um...Is there a Length Limit on this contest?

I'm still typing up my narrative, and it's become quite long.

I think its funny how there's a nice amount of serious entries to prizes ratio, and about a hundred other "omg, never played, random crap, GIMME PRIZE NOW!" posts. Not to mention the general hostility the regulars there seem to have. Maybe you guys should have chosen a slightly more sensible site. Still hope I win something though.

LOL The posters there are hilarious. (those in the contest comments)

Anyway, I'm gonna give it a shot pretty soon, I think I have a good idea. :)

Hmmm, I seemed to have heard complaints like this about another site's regular posters. Now where was that again... :P

Honestly, that's why I didn't enter this. I haven't played any game in the series so I figured might as well give the chance to win to an actual fan.

So after 3 weeks of working on this, I finally finished my narrative.

I'm not sure if I should post the entire thing or cut some of it out because it is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY LONG. Reading it might take you 10 - 20 minutes, depending on how fast/slow of a reader you are.

I want to thank Atlus for placing this contest on Destructoid. Before this contest, I had never heard of Etrian Odyssey. After reading various reviews, I went to my local game store and picked up a used copy. I love it. In fact, I'm trying to finish it so I can enjoy my pre-ordered EO 2; although, I don't think I will make it...it will just taunt me as I try to get through the first one.

I love everything about this game, the map making, the monsters/battles, the item/weapon system. Great.

So, I entered the contest, I would like to win of course, but I wanted to thank you, as I've done in the Etrian Odyssey forum, for creating this contest and bringing this game to my attention. You've got a new fan!

Good luck to everyone that has entered!

When will the winners be announced?

This is what I'm wondering. It's probably just a matter of having to read through all of them, then having to decide who the winners are using their standards.

But I am really excited to see who wins this thing! Is there a timeframe in mind?

RayFoxSith

They should announce them within the week.

It would be nice if they did it quickly. Can you imagine buying the game and then being told a day later that you won runner up? I suppose you could gift the extra copy, but it would still be mildly annoying...

I wouldn't complain. I'm happy to support this series with my money.

OtakuReborn
06-18-2008, 02:16 PM
It probably depends on how many entries there are....and how long the entries themselves are.

I doubt anybody would read mine just because of the sheer length of my entry. I think if you printed it out in notepad at 12 pt. font, it'd be pushing 20 pages.

I agree with this idea. Even though I have already ordered a copy, I would be glad to keep it just to see the series go on and to show that there's someone out there who really likes playing these types of games nowadays.

RayFoxSith

OtakuReborn

Of course. Chances are, if you entered in the contest, you were already going to get it regardless of if you won or not. There's just a nice bonus for if you do win. (and in the case of one person, a REALLY nice bonus). :D
