About Zoids Assault:
When war broke out between the world's two main superpowers, the Guylos Empire and the Republic of Helic, the effects rippled across the globe, dragging other nations into the fight. Two such nations were Maroll and Jamil.

During the war, Maroll's attacks on the neighboring Jamil were devastating, and even a decade after the war had ended, Jamil's economy and infrastructure hadn't fully recovered. Animosity, paranoia, and mutual mistrust between the two nations hindered their ability to find a common ground and complete their peace talks. For ten long years, the two nations found themselves in the middle of a cold war.

After a mysterious explosion at one of Maroll's military bases, two covert ops teams are sent into Jamil territory, their exact mission details never disclosed. Somehow, the events of the present are inextricably linked to the past--to the final days of the war, ten years ago...

Key Features:
• Command a Zoid army – Take control of a fleet of giant biomechanical life forms that blend the assets of beast and machine to create fierce weapons of war.
• Advanced military tactics – Facing armies that far outnumber you means optimizing your tactical advantages. Mastering the concentrated fire tactic, managing the scan gauge and support tactics, and utilizing the Electromagnetic Pulse System will be crucial to your survival.
• First-class customization – Take your units to the next level with upgrades, including melee weapons, rockets, rifles, machine guns, shotguns, cannons, and more

Zoids Assault has been rated “T” for Teen with Fantasy Violence and Mild Language by the ESRB.

Yeah we get a small kickback now that they're effectively our online store. I thought White Rob broke all that stuff down for everyone.

I told myself I wouldn't crack on the 360 purchase until Atlus put 3 games on it. This is #3 damn it.

This announcement sucks. I guess we're going to have a repeat of last year, where the only decent thing Atlus releases is EO.

It actually looks quite decent. I will probably buy it, although id prefer more PS3 releases.

On second thought, it's developed by 10tacle of Double Dragon, and monopoly fame (live arcade), if this link is to be believed, so maybe not: http://developers.teamxbox.com/company/522/10tacle/

That's incorrect. The developer's SEM&O.

Seriously. If there was anything at all you could do to make me totally love you guys more, it was release a Zoids game.

Anyway, I was kind of annoyed that Zoids: Alternative would never come here. You guys totally made that possible, and now I don't have to get a Japanese 360 to play it.

Okay, I know nothing about those 2 series, but I thought that Zoids was some kind of green ennemy robots in Gundam. So what is Zoids? I see it says it has 5 anime serie, 3 manga series and lots of game, I checked the design and it looks really childish, so is it a mecha version of Digimon?

Also, am I supposed to watch the anime and read the manga before playing the game?

No, it's on an alternate timeline.

So what about to get familliar with the universe? Because I see the story centers around fighting between the Gyulos Empire and The Republic of Helic. It seems those 2 empires are mentioned in the manga and anime.

RayFoxSith
05-13-2008, 06:03 PM
It's a spin-off title of the series, I highly doubt you'd need any additional back story to fully enjoy the game. The second season of Zoids took place in its own universe, IIRC.

Yeah, they're mentioned in both, so those names stayed the same. However, Zoids Assault centers around events between Maroll and Jamil, two countries that aren't in the main story arc.

The game will catch you up on everything that's going on in the world, the only thing you'll need to know from the anime and manga is that there are giant animal shaped machines.

Zoids Alternative ironically has little to do with any of the series at all. Mostly because Maroll and Jamil do not exist in any version of events so far.

Put in simplest terms, no two series take place in the same timeline/dimension, which is kinda covered by the "Zoids Saga" series on the Game Boy Advance and DS. There are things that take place in one timeline that are never mentioned or referred to elsewhere.

The only exception was that the Ultrasaurus from Chaotic Century/Guardian Force made an appearance in the New Century Zero series.

The Helic Republic and Guylos Empire do seem to exist in all of these dimensions/timelines, though, but they always seem to form these alliances, and then they are off trying to destroy one another in the next series, so I only assume different timeline/dimensions. However, when you have a character who is apparently 'legendary', such as Van Flyheight, who is sort of tied to Helic, and then you have him run into a character from a later time, for instance, Shoma in the Versus timeline, also of the Helic Republic, then why does he not know who Van is?

So, no worries on not knowing anything about Zoids. This game is completely standalone here. ^^

... And if anyone's wondering, yeah... I am a total Zoids geek. ^^;

I wasn't too impressed with this announcement, but after looking at the screen shots, I like the idea of it much more. It reminds me more of the Zoids from the mid 80s than it does of the later more recent ones. Kind of interesting.

Still frustrates me a little that this was taken into consideration over GunGround DS. :?

As Onion mentioned in the Operation Darkness post, there were recent developments that were out of our control. None of out 360 games will be region-free.

As it stands currently, we were able to make Zoids and Spectral Force 3 playable on both Asian and North American consoles, but that was it.

Damn. I knew about OD, but didn't know that all your 360 games would be region locked.

Then again, these "recent developments" and the fact that the OD demo came out in Europe might mean that you have an European publisher lined up. Here's hoping.

i was hoping the next zoids game to be released would be zoids infinity EX Neo (http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/gamesoft/zoids_ex_neo/).

by the way if zoids infinity EX Neo does get released in the US, is there any chance to have the japanese voice tracks still in the game?
i found that to be one of the problems with zoids battle legends.
the US voice acting was not very good and the translations weren't very good either. many zoids fans didn't care for the english voices in battle legends, but enjoyed the game play.

i have not played zoids assault, but from what i have seen of it. the game looks like a turn based strategy game. i personally don't really like those types. but if zoids infinity EX Neo were to be released, with japanese audio tracks. i would not only buy it by reserve it before it came out.
